JK Lakshmi Cement named Grey Cement 'Superbrand'
08 June 2023India: Superbrands Media India named JK Lakshmi Cement as its 'Superbrand' in the Grey Cement category at the Superbrand 2023 - 2024 awards on 7 June 2023, the Orissa Diary newspaper has reported. The producer beat its competitors across numerous categories that measure branding success.
President and director Shri Arun Shukla said "This accolade serves as a resounding validation of our steadfast commitment to delivering cement products of unparalleled quality and our ceaseless endeavours to reiterate the robustness and dependability of our brand. We wholeheartedly express our deepest gratitude to our esteemed customers and valued partners for their resolute trust and support, which have played an instrumental role in propelling us to this notable achievement."
American Fiber Cement Corporation rebrands
08 June 2023US: American Fiber Cement Corporation (AFCC) has announced a rebrand to American Fiber Cement. Besides the name change, the producer's new branding will consist of a new logo and brand position, and a website redesign. Additionally, the company's range of former Cembrit brand fibre cement products will be rebranded to include the AFC name.
General manager Donna Anglada said "We are excited to reveal our new branding, but we also want to ensure that our distributors, reps and customers understand that, while the names are changing, we will continue to sell Patina, Patina Inline, Patina Rough, Deco, Solid, Cover and Transparent."
Police raid fake cement factory in Uttarakhand
07 June 2023India: Uttarakhand police successfully raided a fake cement blending and bagging plant in the state’s Udham Singh Nagar District. The Hindustan Times newspaper has reported that police recovered 1250 bags of fake cement bearing ACC and UltraTech Cement branding, as well as further empty bags. They arrested one suspect at the scene.
HarbisonWalker International launches new branding
02 June 2023US: HarbisonWalker International has unveiled its new redesigned branding. The refractories supplier says that the new brand identity reflects it standing as the North American arm of Calderys Group. The two companies merged following their acquisition by Platinum Equity in 2022.
Calderys Group president and CEO Michel Cornelissen said “The new visual identity of HWI, as a member of Calderys, is a significant step on our journey to form a unified business that incorporates the best of both brands to create a global high-growth leader. We have undertaken this exercise with thoughtful intention to preserve the legacy of the HWI brand in the Americas, while reflecting the global stature of the Calderys brand.”
Spain: Heidelberg Materials’ subsidiaries HeidelbergCement Hispania, Cementos Rezola and Hanson have rebranded as Heidelberg Materials. HeidelbergCement Hispania used the Hanson brand for the production and sale of concrete and aggregates. Cementos Rezola (also known as FYM) was used for the manufacture and sale of cement. The marketing exercise follows the change in name of parent company Germany-based Heildelberg Cement to Heidelberg Materials in September 2022.
Heidelberg Materials in Spain operates two integrated cement plants, six quarries and four ready-mixed concrete plants.
Europe: Cemex has launched its latest packaging design for its Vertua reduced-CO2 product range at the Low Carbon World exhibition in Paris, France. The new design incorporates products' scores across five 'sustainability attributes:' emissions reduction, energy efficiency, conservation of water, recycled content and design optimisation. Cemex will now deploy the design across Europe by June 2023.
Cemex's Europe, Middle East and Africa regional president Sergio Menendez said “Cemex is attuned to the need to focus on all aspects that can make a product more sustainable - not just achieving a lower carbon footprint. With the updated classification system for Vertua, customers can now more easily identify which of our products leverage the cutting-edge technology and innovation that will enable them to overcome the challenges they are currently facing in construction and renovation." Menendez concluded "The enhanced Vertua brand represents a more ambitious and stronger approach: from a group of low carbon products to a family of products and solutions that encompass more sustainable attributes and contribute to our company vision of building a better future.”
Holcim Russia becomes Cementum
03 February 2023Russia: Holcim’s divested Russian business has rebranded as Cementum. Local management concluded a deal to buy the company from Switzerland-based Holcim in December 2022. The new ownership agreed to change the name upon completion of the transaction. Holcim Russia had been operating as a deconsolidated subsidiary of Holcim since March 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Cementos Progreso launches in Costa Rica
31 January 2023Costa Rica: Cementos Progreso has launched its brand in Costa Rica, marking its entry into a seventh Central/South American market.
Chief executive officer José Raúl González said “Our company believes in the region, understands its potential and is committed to adding value to all Central Americans. The launch of our flagship brand in the Costa Rican market is key to our growth and investment plans, which seek to generate development and employment in the local and regional cement industry."
Austria: Lafarge Austria and Perlmooser Beton will operate under the new name Holcim Austria from May 2023. Both companies have been part of Holcim Group since 2015. The rebranding exercise follows the renaming of LafargeHolcim as Holcim that took place in mid-2021.
Lafarge Austria operates two cement plants, at Mannersdorf and Retznei respectively, with a total production capacity of 1.6Mt/yr. Its headquarters is in Vienna. The company employs around 250 people.
Lehigh Hanson rebrands as Heidelberg Materials North America
04 January 2023Canada/US: Lehigh Hanson has rebranded as Heidelberg Materials North America, with immediate effect. The cement producer said that the new brand reflects its broad, innovation-driven approach to becoming the North American industry leader in sustainability and digital solutions.
President and chief executive officer Chris Ward said “This is a major step change for our company, both globally and here in North America. We are thrilled to begin this transformation in North America today, and continue our global journey to grow our business beyond cement and aggregates and become the most sustainable company in the sector.”
