HeidelbergCement increases sales in 2021
01 February 2022Germany: HeidelbergCement recorded sales of Euro18.7bn in 2021, up by 6.3% year-on-year from Euro17.6bn in 2020. The group says that the growth exceeds its anticipated ‘slight increase’ in sales. Sales in the fourth quarter of 2021 were Euro4.7bn, up by 4.4% from Euro4.5bn in the fourth quarter of 2020. The company announced a preliminary result from current operations of Euro2.61bn, up by 11% from Euro2.36bn in 2021.
PowTech trade fair reschedules to 27 – 29 September 2022
01 February 2022Germany: The PowTech powder and bulk solids processing and analytics trade fair in Nuremberg, Bavaria, will now take place on 27 – 29 September 2022, in conjunction with the FachPack packaging trade fair. The organiser decided to postpone the event once again due to continued pandemic-related disruption.
Master Builders Solutions launches new admixtures range
31 January 2022Germany: Master Builders Solutions has announced the addition of a new range of admixtures consisting of MasterEase and Master X-Seed to its admixtures portfolio. The company developed MasterEase and Master X-Seed to best enable European cement companies to produce cement of the EU’s new CEM II/C-M and CEM VI Portland-composite cements. Master Builders Solutions hopes that the new products will drive the construction industry’s transition to low-clinker cements and CO2-optimised concrete.
Parent company MBCC Group’s European president Christian Geierhaas said “Providing sustainable solutions is a key factor of Master Builders Solutions’ portfolio and overall strategy. Strong partnerships are essential and support and accelerate the development of significant innovations. We work with major players to continuously develop efficient admixtures to add value to our customers and achieve a long-term sustainable positive effect on the construction industry.” He added “In addition to the usual performance criteria, such as fluidity and compressive strength, our new solutions for our ready-mix customers are characterised by their outstanding robustness. Our admixtures provide an important differentiator by guaranteeing consistently high quality concrete, even upon variation of the cement type and fluctuation of the raw materials used to produce these new, more sustainable cements.”
Russia: Germany-based Wacker has opened an additional laboratory in Moscow. The development site will focus on water-repellent silicone additives for cement and concrete. Mechanical pressure tests and ultrasound and temperature measurements are among the services that the new laboratory offers for water-repellent treatment of cement and concrete. The site is part of Wacker’s Innovation Hub for Cement and Concrete.
Wacker opened its first technical laboratory in Moscow in 2003. Both Wacker Silicones and Wacker Polymers now operate multiple labs in Moscow for construction chemical products. The new laboratory also hopes to collaborate with local universities and testing facilities and the first projects have already been commissioned.
Firma Vasútvill to acquire 49% stake in MABA Hungaria
17 January 2022Hungary: Kirchdorfer Gruppe subsidiary Kirchdorfer Concrete Solutions has agreed to sell a 49% stake in prestressed concrete sleepers producer MABA Hungaria to railway overhead line construction company Firma Vasútvill. Austria-based Kirchdorfer Concrete Solutions will retain its majority stake in the company.
Kirchdorfer Gruppe CEO Michael Wardian said that the group was delighted to have secured a strong partner for its Hungarian operations.
HeidelbergCement to continue share buyback programme
14 January 2022Germany: HeidelbergCement plans to proceed with its on-going share buyback programme in early 2022 with a second tranche of purchases worth Euro300 – 350m. The group expects to conclude the tranche in mid-2022. It previously finished buying back 2.7% of its shares in December 2021. On 13 January 2021, HeidelbergCement announced that it had retired all shares purchased under this previous tranche.
Holcim and Magment to develop magnetisable concrete technology for electric vehicle charging
06 January 2022Switzerland/Germany: Holcim has announced the launch of a strategic partnership with inductive charging technology developer Magment to test and commercialise magnetisable concrete technology for use in roads. The technology will power and charge electric vehicles as they drive on roads fitted with Magment. Another possible application is in industrial floors, to charge robots and forklifts.
Holcim’s Global Innovation Center head Edelio Bermejo said: “At Holcim we are innovating to put concrete at the centre of our world’s transition to net-zero. With Magment, we are excited to be developing concrete solutions to accelerate electric mobility. Partnering with start-ups all over the world, we are constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation to lead the way in sustainability.”
Germany: Holcim Germany has published environmental reports for 2020 focused on each of its cement plants. The subsidiary of Switzerland-based Holcim has decided to target its reports on local issues by issuing separate reports for each of its four integrated plants in the country, at Beckum, Höver, Lägerdorf and Dotternhausen respectively. Each report covers national developments for the sector and the company. Local data is then included as well as data on connected cement grinding and concrete plants. The reports can be downloaded from Holcim Germany’s website.
Georgian cement imports rise by 16% so far in 2021
27 December 2021Georgia: Cement imports rose by 16% year-on-year to 0.78Mt in the first eleven months of 2021 from 0.68Mt in the same period in 2020. Data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia and the Trend News Agency show that the value of these imports increased to US$40.2m from US$34.6m. Azerbaijan was the leading cement exporting nation to Georgia with a 75% share followed by Turkey with most of the rest. Russia, Greece and Germany have also exported cement to Georgia so far in 2021.
Flender begins Voerde logistics centre expansion
17 December 2021Germany: Flender has launched the construction of a new 8000m2 storehouse at its Voerde, North Rhine-Westphalia, logistics centre. Along with the lease of an additional building from project developer Panattoni, the project will expand Flender’s total storage footprint by 19,000m2. The supplier says that the new facilities will reduce the Voerde centre’s CO2 by optimising its transport routes.
Flender CEO Andreas Evertz said "I am very happy that the expansion of our site in Voerde will allow us to centralise our logistics activities, bringing us another step closer to our goal of operating in a completely carbon neutral fashion by 2030. With the new warehouse space, we are making our logistics processes sustainable and thus reducing a significant part of the previous transport routes and the associated CO2 emissions.”
