Philippines: China-based Sinoma Construction will renovate Holcim Philippines’ La Union cement plant in Bacnotan, North Luzon. Seetao News has reported that the company signed a contract with the subsidiary of Switzerland-based Holcim in July 2021. The work involves a capacity expansion, renovation and de-bottlenecking. The aims of the projects are to promote the modular grinding station market and expand Holcim’s Philippines business and deepen its localisation.
Philippines: Holcim Philippines says it is focusing on sustainability and invocation to its customers. At a virtual conference held in mid-June 2021, the building materials producer said that it is using more alternative low-carbon fuels and developing new products that contain less clinker. It added that builders could improve their carbon footprint by ensuring that structures are made with the right materials to meet strength and durability requirements without being overdesigned and that hardware stores could play a role in guiding customers to the correct building materials for their projects. The company is also working on its digital platforms to make customer transactions smoother.
“With our commitment to sustainability and innovation, we will develop the next generation of building materials that will help the country build better for the future. We want to continue to strengthen our collaboration with our customers to raise consumer awareness that these products support their aspirations for a greener and healthier Philippines," said Horia Adrian, Holcim Philippines’ president and chief executive officer.
Philippines: Holcim Philippines, part of Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim, has announced the launch of its new Holcim Aqua X concrete. The product contains ‘active water-repellent boosters’ giving it increased resistance to water damage.
The BusinessWorld newspaper has reported that president and chief executive officer Horia-Ciprian Adrian said that Aqua X ‘highlights our great advantage in developing exciting products.’ He added that the product outperforms other concretes on environmental indicators due to its low clinker factor.
Holcim Philippines appoints Horia Adrian as head
24 February 2021Philippines: Horia Adrian has been appointed as the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Holcim Philippines. He succeeds John Stull will be reassigned to another position within LafargeHolcim Group after three years in the post.
Adrian is a graduate of the masters degree programme in business administration at Anjou University in South Korea and of the bachelors and masters programme in mechanical engineering at ‘Dunărea de Jos’ University in Galați in Romania. He joined the LafargeHolcim Group in 2000 as a project manager for Holcim Romania’s Ready-mix and Aggregates Division. Between 2004 and 2010 he was the sales, marketing and logistics director, and respectively the CEO, of Garadagh Cement in Azerbaijan. He later became the CEO of Romania and Market Head Emerging Europe in 2018.
Holcim Philippines recruits mixed-martial arts heavyweight champion as brand ambassador
01 January 2021Philippines: Holcim Philippines has partnered with mixed-martial arts organization ONE Championship and its heavyweight world champion, Brandon ‘The Truth’ Vera, for a marketing campaign. The ‘Built to Excel’ campaign will feature Vera highlighting the similarities of his path to being a champion with Holcim Philippines’ journey in establishing itself as, ‘the leading building solutions provider in the country.’ The campaign will highlight Holcim Excel, the company’s general purpose cement brand which is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2021. Holcim will primarily use social media for the campaign and produce materials for its trade partners nationwide.
Filipino-American Vera won the inaugural ONE Heavyweight World Championship in December 2015 and has held the title ever since.
Holcim Philippines board approves subsidiaries merger
24 November 2020Philippines: LafargeHolcim subsidiary Holcim Philippines has announced plans to merge with its subsidiaries Bulkcem Philippine Incorporated and MabiniGrinding Mill Corporation. The Philippine Star newspaper has reported that the board has approved the planned merger, and that a special stockholders’ meeting will take place on 15 January 2021 to finalise the transactions.
Bulkcem Philippine Incorporated leases the Iloilo cement terminal in Western Visayas, while MabiniGrinding Mill Corporation leases the Mabini grinding plant in Calabarzon.
The board also approved the dissolution of Holcim’s Business Service Center, HuBB Stores and Services and British Virgin Islands-based WellBorne Group International.
Holcim Philippines launches Excel cement marketing campaign
08 October 2020Philippines: LafargeHolcim subsidiary Holcim Philippines has launched a new social media marketing campaign for its flagship general purpose Excel brand cement. The Business Mirror newspaper has reported that the campaign uses the words “support and lift” in relation to the attributes consumers most associate with Excel cement.
The company said, “Holcim Philippines has sold over 1bn bags of Excel since 2000. This reflects the trust of local contractors, who in turn have used this to build many of the things that benefit us today. This campaign is a reminder that Excel will continue to be reliable partner in building a better Philippines moving forward.”
Philippines: LafargeHolcim subsidiary Holcim Philippines says that it will “strengthen its commitment to development as a supporter of manufacturing and construction” on Mindenao, where it operates the Davao and Misamis Oriental cement plants, to help the island recover from the economic effects of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Sales senior vice president William Sumalinog said, “We are not slowing down at this time when the government has deemed it essential to continue upgrading infrastructure. Doing so not only raises the level of competitiveness of the manufacturing industry, but also shields the economy from the blows of the pandemic. We remain confident that we are well-equipped to deliver great value and support to builders working to improve the competitiveness of Mindanao’s economy and to all our stakeholders in the region who are united in their dreams of a better Mindanao."
Holcim Philippines announces digital platform partnership
19 August 2020Philippines: LafargeHolcim subsidiary Holcim Philippines says that it has partnered with digital news platform providers Pinoy Builders. The commercial partnership involves Holcim Philippines providing Pinoy Builders with its cement, concrete and health and safety expertise.
Marketing and innovation senior vice president Ram Maganti said, “The Philippines is a very digitally-savvy country and the majority of professionals in the Philippines' construction industry are millennials who are 'digital natives.' With its steadily-growing number of subscribers and followers, Pinoy Builders is helpful in our efforts in engaging and positively influencing the construction industry. We are excited in continuing to contribute to this platform to let Filipino building professionals know how our offerings and solutions can help them in their projects.”
Philippines: John Stull, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Holcim Philippines, says that the subsidiary of LafargeHolcim is no longer being considered for divestment. He made the comments at the company’s annual shareholders meeting, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer newspaper.
“Holcim Philippines will remain with the major shareholder of LafargeHolcim and we will grow with the company and with the country," he said. Still added that the cement producer was making long-term plans to boost the production capacity of its plants in Luzon and Mindanao. LafargeHolcim’s attempt to sell its majority stake in Holcim Philippines to San Miguel Corporation for US$2.15bn collapsed in May 2020 after the Philippines Competition Authority (PCC) failed to approve the deal within 12 months of its conclusion.
