QNCC preparing to export cement
12 February 2019Qatar: Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) is preparing to export clinker, grey cement and white cement. Following the completion of its 5000t/day Plant 5, the company is considering targeting countries like Yemen and Iraq, according to the Qatar Tribune. The cement producer has a production capacity of 16,000t/day. In 2018 it produced 2.9Mt of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Sulphate Resistant Portland Cement (SRC). It also intends to add new cement products to its portfolio in 2019.
LafargeHolcim España to invest Euro4m in Sagunto cement plant
07 February 2019Spain: LafargeHolcim España plans to spend Euro4m on upgrades to its Sagunto cement plant, according to the Las Provincias newspaper. The work will include automating the laboratory, adding a new control system for the plant, making environmental changes, improving lighting and acoustics and remodelling the unit’s white cement line.
Qatar National Cement starts production of white cement
03 December 2018Qatar: Qatar National Cement Company has started producing white cement after it obtained the necessary licenses for the product. It will be sold in 50kg bags and in bulk.
Russia: Eurocement has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dry Building Mixes Manufacturers Union about using white cement. The deal was signed by Jaroslav Stoupa, the president of production and technical development at Eurocement, and Roman Borisov, the head of the Dry Building Mixes Manufacturers Union, at a trade conference in Moscow. The agreement connects the producers and users of white cement and it allows for the technical exchange of data about the product’s market requirements. It follows Eurocement’s plans to develop a white cement production line at its Zhigulovskiye Stroymaterialy plant in Samara in mid-2019.
Eurocement to upgrade Zhigulovskiye plant to produce white cement
28 November 2018Russia: Eurocement has hired Turkey’s Dal Teknik to upgrade a production line at its Zhigulovskiye Stroymaterialy plant in Samara so that it can manufacture white cement. The project has a budget of around Euro13m. Once complete the line will be able to produce 0.3Mt/yr of PCB 1-500-D0 or just below 0.4Mt/yr PCB 1-400-D20 white cement. The new product will be sold in big or regular sized bags. First deliveries are expected in the summer of 2019.
Construction starts at Kattakurgan cement plant
20 November 2018Uzbekistan: Construction has started on a 2.4Mt/yr cement plant in the Kattakurgan district of Samarkand. The project has an investment of US$420m, according to the Uzbekistan National News Agency. The first stage of construction will spend US$200m towards building a 1.2Mt/yr plant by 2020. This is expected to create 300 jobs. Then the plant will expand its production capacity from 2020 to 2023. The plant will produce both grey and white Ordinary Portland Cement. China’s Gansu Hengya Cement is investing in the project.
India: The Industries Department of Himachal Pradesh is planning to re-advertise the tender for a white cement plant project at Sikridhar in the Chamba district. The state government received no bids for the project in the last round of bidding, according to the Tribune newspaper. Only ACC expressed any interest in the process by buying the big papers.
The local government wants the project to be awarded by May 2019 and it is expected to cost around US$138m. The project is a long running scheme that was first suggested in 2002.
Shareholders approve white cement plant sale by Helwan Cement
06 November 2018Egypt: The shareholders of Helwan Cement have approved the sale of its white cement plant in Minya Governorate to Emmar Industries. Helwan Cement, a 99.5% subsidiary owned by HeidelbergCement and Suez Cement, previously said that the sale was part of its plan to restructure the business and improve its financial position.

12 September 2018Egypt: Helwan Cement has agreed to sell its white cement plant in Minya Governorate to Emmar Industries. The transaction is planned to take place following the de-merger of the white cement unit from the rest of the company. The subsidiary of HeidelbergCement and Suez Cement said that the sale was part of its plan to restructure the business and improve its financial position. The company previously said it had received bid for the white cement plant in June 2018.
FCI Aravali Gypsum and Minerals India plans to set up white cement plant in Himachal Pradesh
07 August 2018India: FCI Aravali Gypsum and Minerals India Limited (FAGMIL) is preparing to build a 1000t/day white cement plant in Himachal Pradesh. The state-run company, under the control of the Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, has received a letter of intent from the state government of Himachal Pradesh granting it a mining lease to support building a white cement plant. This will be followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between FAGMIL and the state government.
The lease area is 108 hectares and it is located near Nohra Dhar Village, Tehsil Sangrah in the Sirmour District. Limestone from the site will be used to support a white cement plant. A pre-feasibility study has been completed by the National Council for Cement and Building Materials, Ballabgarh in Haryana and further planning activities are in progress.
