Votorantim Cimentos strengthens position in northern Brazil
28 February 2019Brazil: Votorantim Cimentos has started shipping cement from its Aracaju terminal in Sergipe state to its Manaus terminal in Amazonas state to expand its business in the north of the country. It purchased the Manaus unit from Cemex in 2018, according to the Valor Economico newspaper. A 20,000t cement carrier will be used exclusively for the project.
Cemex sells Amazon terminal to Votorantim
29 May 2018Brazil: Cemex Latam has signed an agreement to sell its stake in Cimento Vencemos do Amazonas to Votorantim Cimentos for US$30m. Cimento Vencemos do Amazonas operates a river cement terminal in Manaus in Amazonas, according to the La Republica newspaper. The deal is subject to approval by the Brazilian and Colombian competition bodies and the Brazilian waterways transportation agency.
Workers strike at Amazonian cement plant
17 May 2017Brazil: Over 500 workers have gone on strike at Cimento Nassau’s Alexio cement plant in Amazonas. The dispute is over back pay and better working conditions, according to the Amazonas em Tempo newspaper. The management of the plant is attempting to start negotiations.
