Indocement celebrates 45th anniversary
07 August 2020Indonesia: Indocement celebrated its 45th anniversary on 4 August 2020. To mark the occasion the company held tumpeng cutting ceremonies at four of its sites, issued new staff identification cards with updated logos and organised social media dance and singing competitions between different plants and divisions. The company’s President Director Christian Kartawijaya also inaugurated an expansion to the research and training centre at the integrated Cieureup plant in West Java. The cement producer became a subsidiary of Germany-based HeidelbergCement in 2001.
Holcim El Salvador celebrates 70th anniversary with limited edition cement bag branding
10 July 2019El Salvador: Holcim El Salvador is marking its 70th anniversary with the launch of a 42.5kg limited edition bag for its Fuerte cement brand. The new bag features the traditional red and black colours and landmark buildings constructed with Holcim’s cement product packaging, such as Torre Futura, the San Salvador Metropolitan Cathedral and the Divino Salvador del Mundo monument, according to the El Mundo newspaper. The new limited edition bag will be sold until the end of 2019.
INFORM celebrates 50th anniversary
05 July 2019Germany: INFORM has marked its 50th anniversary at an event held at its headquarters in Aachen. Over 250 guests attended the function, including founder Professor Hans-Jürgen Zimmermann and current chief executive officer (CEO) Adrian Weiler.
The software company makes products using operations research and artificial intelligence, including fuzzy logic and machine learning, for a variety of industries from logistics, supply chains, manufacturing, workforce, aviation, automotive and fraud prevention. Over 1000 companies in more than 40 countries run INFORM software systems. They are supported from Aachen in Germany and Inform Software in Atlanta in the US.
CIFA celebrates 90th anniversary
16 October 2018Italy: CIFA has celebrated its 90th anniversary with an update to the company museum, the launch of a special edition vehicle-mounted pump and a series of special events. The museum, based at the company headquarters in Senago, has introduced news areas dedicated to hybrid technology and carbon fibres. The special edition pump products are available for the K42L, K45H and the new K47H models and include special anniversary colours, celebratory plaques and a 90th anniversary logo. The company was specialises in concrete pumps was originally founded on 7 July 1928 by Carlo Ausenda.
Cemex Balcones quarry celebrates 50th anniversary
21 September 2018US: Cemex has celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Balcones Quarry in New Braunfels, Texas with an event attended by Cemex USA Regional President - Texas and New Mexico Region Joel Galassini, and which included a planned quarry blast.
Balcones Quarry began operations in 1968. Cemex purchased the quarry along with the neighbouring cement plant in 1994. The quarry currently processes more than 10Mt/yr of crushed limestone annually and supports infrastructure, residential and commercial projects across Texas. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recently ranked the quarry as the top crushed stone producer in the country in terms of volume.
In 2016 the site opened a water recycling plant at the quarry to cut reliance on local water sources. Recently, Cemex opened its Wildlife Habitat Centre adjacent to the quarry to promote conservation and sustainability. The centre includes about 17 acres of restored prairie, pollinator gardens and meadows planted with native plants. An education centre and wheelchair-accessible produce garden are also on the site.
Metso celebrates 150th anniversary with photo exhibition
18 September 2018Finland: Metso is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a photo exhibition illustrating how the company has taken part in shaping and building the modern world. Interim chief executive officer (CEO) and chief financial officer (CFO) Eeva Sipilä will open the event on 18 September 2018 at Sanoma House in Helsinki. The exhibition will be open to the public until the end of September 2018.
The company was first established in 1868 when Erik Jan Hammarberg set up the Sunds Bruk ironworks in Sweden. As the business developed its products and services widened and its ownership changed. In 1991, the operations become part of Rauma-Repola. Rauma then merged with Valmet in 1999 to form Metso. At present the company operates in more than 50 countries and over 12,000 staff. It serves the mining, aggregates, recycling and process industries.
A central part of the company’s focus includes aggregates and minerals processing. Key parts of Metso’s development in this area include the creation of the Nordberg Manufacturing Company in 1886 by Bruno Nordberg, a Finnish migrant who settled in Michigan in the US and produced some of the first crushing equipment for mines. In 1928, Nordberg acquired Symons cone crusher technology. Bergeaud & Bruno was established in France in 1895 to manufacture crushing equipment, and in Tampere, Finland, Lokomo produced its first jaw crushers at the beginning of the 1920s. Each of these companies and their products continue to the present day as products offered by Metso.
UK: Lafarge Cement is celebrating 50 years of production at its Cookstown plant in Northern Ireland. The plant opened in 1968 and today it employs almost 100 staff both in Cookstown and at a cement terminal in Belfast. Lafarge Cement was later acquired by Aggregate Industries in 2015 as part of the merger between Lafarge and Holcim that created LafargeHolcim.
“Fifty years is a significant milestone and follows the successful 60th anniversary celebrations that took place at our sister cement plant in Cauldon in 2017,” said plant manager Russell Larmour. “The success at Cookstown is testament to the many generations of people here in County Tyrone who have helped shape the business today. As we now look to the future, and many more years of production, we are committed to maintaining our position as a leading, sustainable business partner at the heart of the UK’s construction industry.”
Standard Industrie celebrates 40th anniversary
02 March 2018France: Standard Industrie is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The company that facilitates the storage, flow, conveying and cleaning of bulk powdery products was originally setup in 1978. Founder Hervé Simoëns came up with the idea that compacted powder can only empty from the silo with a large influx of air. He filed a patent and offered his solution to cement manufacturers. Since 1985 the company has established subsidiaries in Europe but also in South Africa, China, Canada, the US and Mexico. Key products the company provides include the Airchoc and Macsys air cannons and the Liftube conveyor belt system.
Cemex Spain’s Buñol cement plant marks centenary
26 December 2017Spain: Cemex Spain’s Buñol cement plant has marked the 100th anniverary of the plant and the 25th anniversary of Cemex’s entry into the Spanish market. Pedro Palomino, the president of Cemex Spain, Juan Charquero, the plant manager, Juncal Carrascosa, the local mayor, and employees, customers and suppliers of the company atttended the event including the screening of a documentary about the cement industry, according to the Las Provincias newspaper.
N+P Recycling celebrates 25th anniversary
07 July 2017Netherlands: Alternative fuels specialist N+P Recycling has celebrated its 25th anniversary and the opening of its new headquarters in Nieuw-Bergen, Limburg. Company chief executive officer (CEO) Karel Jennissen presided at the event and Manon Pelzer, the mayoress of Nieuw-Bergen, was also in attendance.
200 guests attended the opening that included a guided tour of the new premises. At a ceremony marking the anniversary Karel Jennissen, with his wife Karin, presented the history of the company. Their three sons Lars, Stijn and Jens then gave guests a personal insight into their own experiences with the firm. This was followed the next day by a general tour of the facility for the local community with around 1000 members of the public.
