Bolivia: Empresa Publica Productiva Cementos de Bolivia’s (ECEBOL) at Caracollo in Oruro will start commercial operation in August 2019. The US$306m plant will have a production capacity of 1.3Mt/yr, according to Radio FM Bolivia. A consortium of Sacyr, Imasa and Polysius have worked on the project.
Bolivia: SEDEM, the government’s business development agency, has refuted accusations that a new cement plant being built in Caracollo, Oruro does not have enough water or raw materials. Patricia Ballivián, the general manager of SEDEM, presented reports from PricewaterhouseCoopers and C & C Ingeniería y Procesos defending the supplies to the unit. The reports were released in response to accusations by a local politician that the project had been poorly planned.
The reports revealed that the Empresa Publica Productiva Cementos de Bolivia’s (ECEBOL) plant will recycle the industrial portion of its water supply. It will have a supply of 4l/s and a 3.5Ml reservoir. It also has limestone, gypsum and clay reserves sufficient for the production of 100Mt of cement. These are expected to last the plant 60 years.
Potosí plant on track for first cement in December 2019
26 December 2018Bolivia: The Potosí cement plant being built by Empresa Publica Productiva Cementos de Bolivia (ECEBOL) hopes to produce its first cement bag by December 2019. Work on the plant is over half-complete, according to the El Potosí newspaper. Construction work on the main platform of the preheater tower is continuing and civil engineering work on the mill has been completed. Most of the equipment for the project has been supplied. The plant is being built by Sociedad Accidental Imasa Polysius, a joint venture created by Polysius and Imasa. The US$240m unit will have a production capacity of 1.3Mt/yr when finished.
Ecebol Oruro cement plant preparing to open in February 2019
08 October 2018Bolivia: Victor Hugo, the governor of Oruro, says that Empresa Publica Productiva Cementos de Bolivia’s (ECEBOL) is preparing to open its new 1.5Mt/yr cement plant at Caracollo in February 2019. Hugo told the La Patria newspaper that the unit was 98% complete. Over US$300m has been spent on the project.

The new 1.3Mt/yr plant is scheduled to start commercial operation in early 2019, according to the La Razón newspaper. The cement producer is also building a new plant at Potosí but this unit is not expected to open until 2020. Once both plants are operational the company expects to meet up to 30% of the country’s demand for cement.

Work on Potosí cement plant starts
23 August 2017Bolivia: Imasa has started ground work has started on the US$300m Potosí cement plant near Chuitara following an inspection of the site. The 1.3Mt/yr plant is being built by Imasa, ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions and Valoriza for Empresa Publica Productiva Cementos de Bolivia (ECEBOL), according to the El Potosí newspaper. Located at 4000m above sea level it will be one of the highest plants in the world when it becomes operational.
Imasa wins contract to build cement plant in Potosí
24 March 2017Bolivia: Imasa, with ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions and Valoriza, has been awarded the contract to build a 1.3Mt/yr cement plant for Empresa Publica Productiva Cementos de Bolivia (ECEBOL) at Chiutara in Potosí. The contract is worth US$241m and it is expected to take three years to complete. President Evo Morales signed the deal with representatives of the European engineering companies.
Imasa is also building a similar sized plant for ECEBOL at Jeruyo, Caracollo that is scheduled to be finished in mid-2018. Elsewhere in Latin America the Spanish engineering firm is building a 2600t/day clinker production line for Unión Cementera Nacional (UCEM) at Riobamba in Ecuador.
Sacyr to build cement plant in Bolivia for US$244m
07 April 2014Bolivia: A consortium, led by Sacyr Industrial, has won an order for the construction of a cement plant in Bolivia for US$244m.
The contract, which was signed with the Bolivian state-run cement producer Empresa Publica Productiva Cementos de Bolivia (ECEBOL), includes the design, supply of machinery, construction, installation and launch of the plant in the city of Oruro in the central west of the country. The plant is planned to have a clinker capacity of at least 3000t/day.
The contract is in line with Sacyr's strategy for global expansion. The company is already present in Australia, the UK and Peru, with various projects in the oil, gas, power infrastructure, energy and waste-treatment sectors.
