Haver & Boecker starts joint-venture with Portland Packaging
03 October 2018South Africa: Germany’s Haver & Boecker has entered into a joint-venture with Southport-based Portland Packaging. Through the joint venture, the Portland Packaging plant will start producing Haver & Boecker products and equipment alongside its own products, retaining the brands of both companies. The German company says that this is the first time a multinational full line packaging company has manufactured product for Africa, in Africa. It will be the minority partner in the joint venture.
Portland Packaging was founded in 2002 by Barry Buist, a former employee of a Haver & Boecker partner company in South Africa. It sells packaging machinery, parts and service to more than 100 customers across Africa and beyond, primarily in the cement industry.
DG Khan officially opens Hub plant
27 July 2018Pakistan: DG Khan Cement, part of Nishat Group, has announced the official opening of its recently commissioned Hub plant in Balochistan, Pakistan. The company claims that the 9000t/day (2.9Mt/yr) plant is ‘Asia's most modern’ and is constructed entirely from European equipment. FLSmidth was the main supplier of the pyroprocessing equipment, with Loesche supplying three complete grinding plants, Haver & Boecker supplying packaging solutions and IBAU Hamburg supplying silos and loading technology. The plant was built in just 30 months.

Bolivia: Fábrica Nacional de Cemento (Fancesa) is undergoing a tendering process to upgrade its packing unit at its cement plant in Cal Orcko. Haver & Boecker, FLSmidth Ventomatic, Claudius Peters and Beumer Latin America all submitted bids, according to the Correo del Sur newspaper. The project includes a new cement silo, new bagging machinery and a mechanised loading system.
Haver & Boecker promotes Roto-Packer RVT
20 March 2017Germany: Haver & Boecker is promoting its Roto-Packer RVT, a new model in its Roto-Packer series that was launched in mid-2016. The machine is designed for packing fine and ultra-fine cement at up to 6000 bags/hr. Key features and options include a Roto-Lock dosing unit, a MEC weighing system, Seal technology, LED lighting for a simplified user experience and Haver Quattro technology.
“Our team spent lots of time analysing the customer needs, brainstorming ideas and finding best solutions, which led us, beside other issues, to redesign the dosing system and inventing the Roto-Lock,” said Wolfgang Bednarz, manager of the Cement Business Unit at Haver & Boecker.
Following customer feedback the dosing system was redesigned in the series and the Roto-Lock replaced the slide gate dosing and shut-off valves (slide plates) to allow clean filling without spillage. Many older models can also be refurbished with the new system. The MEC weighing system serves as a scale and a configurable control system for the entire packing system providing ideal bag weight and helping to eliminate product waste.
Haver & Boecker to launch Quattro System Monitoring
28 February 2017Germany: Haver & Boecker plans to launch its Quattro System Monitoring product at the Interpack 2017 exhibition, taking place at Düsseldorf in May 2017. The mineral processing and packaging technology company will also feature its newly developed Roto-Packer RVT packing system and Elementra inline packer. Its subsidiary Newtech Bag Palletizing will also be present at the event with its Terram 1000 palletizer.
The Quattro System Monitoring is a ‘smart system’ that allows real-time production and maintenance information on packing machines can be viewed on a variety of devices either locally or remotely via a secure connection. The company says that the system, ‘allows machines to be operated more profitably and processes to be laid out and planned more intelligently.’ The product can also be retrofitted to existing machines.
Haver & Boecker will also be running a parallel event at its headquarters in Oelde in May 2017 to invite customers to live machine demonstrations.
Australia: Sunstate Cement is set to start using new packaging equipment from Haver & Boecker at its Port of Brisbane cement grinding plant in November 2016. It has installed a Roto-Packer Adams 4 for its packaging machine, Ibau storage technology for its drymix mixer, a Newtec palletising system and a stretch hood machine made by Lachenmeier. The decision to install the new packaging line follows a switch to polyethylene (PE) bags.
“With the uptrend of the Do-It-Yourself market in Australia, the attractive and clean design of PE packaging will provide a competitive advantage to drymix manufacturers,” said Alan Arbotante, Area Sales Manager for Packaging Technology at Haver & Boecker Australia.
Tarmac launches new cement packing plant
10 October 2016UK: Tarmac has launched a cement-packing unit at its Tunstead cement plant in Derbyshire. The Haver and Boecker 10-spout Adams 2000 packing plant increases the plant’s packing capacity. The launch takes place on the site’s 50th anniversary of cement production. The plant will manufacture Tarmac’s range of plastic packed and tubbed cement products for merchant and retail customers. The plant will also be used to house the company’s new 12.5kg mixer bags that were launched earlier in 2016.
“This new plant is an exciting development for us. It enhances our existing UK-wide supply capacity, ensuring we continue to offer customers and end users superior packed cement products, service and supply. As a business with a strong culture of innovation, the plant will use some of our most pioneering developments, such as plastic packaging,” said Kevan Greenhalgh, Packed Business Manager for Tarmac’s Cement business.
The plant has created 23 new jobs at Tunstead, which employs around 450 people. It will also offer training opportunities for existing employees, through the use of the packing plant’s automated technology. The plant launch coincides with the recent upgrading of Tunstead’s rail freight infrastructure, part of Tarmac’s strategy to support sustainable delivery of materials, and cut transport CO2 by 10% by 2020.
UK: Hope Cement will use polyethylene (PE) packaging with the Roto-Packer Adams 10 from Haver & Boecker at its Dagenham terminal near London. The site started starting using the Adams system and a palletiser made by Newtec in June 2016, with an operation speed of 1200 bags/hr.
“We want the best benefits and services for our customers. PE packaging here plays an important role. Retailers and wholesalers can increase their stock levels and construction companies can leave their bags outside in the open without worry, no matter what the weather is,” said Gary Brennand, commercial director at Hope Cement. Brennand also cited safety and bag cleanliness as benefits of the new packaging.
Haver & Boecker launches Haver Service department
08 October 2015Germany: Haver & Boecker has launched a new service division in September 2015. Its aim is to bundle competencies and to increase the efficiencies of support services.
The newly-founded department, Haver Service, is based on four sectors: Spare Parts, Commissioning, Support and Assistance. "Every one of our customers should feel well-served. Service cannot be an empty word," said Alfons-Lütke-Cosmann, Head of Haver Service.
The Commissioning sector will organise the commissioning and assembly of machine and plants as well as complex reconstruction and calibration. It aims to increase the efficiency of commissioning. The Spare Parts sector will sell spare parts and implement online sales. The Assistance sector will support the customer for unplanned machine failures and acute technical difficulties. It provides a free 24/7 hotline and a remote service and will organise, depending on requirements, current site service calls. The Support column includes audits, maintenance, standard conversions, customer training and planned service appearances.
Germany: Haver & Boecker has announced that its newest generation INTEGRA® Form-Fill-Seal design system for filling tubular film bags with cement, building products, minerals, chemical products, food and feed stuffs, will be launched by the end of 2015. The largest system is designed for speeds of up to 3200bags/hr.
In addition to speed, the INTEGRA is also able to handle a broader range of fillable product types, weights and packaging types and materials. In addition to powders, granulates and micro-granulates, the system is also able to fill liquids and special products (such as flakes or products with pieces) into valve-type or plastic tubular film bags. Every type of packaging can be used independently of shape and material. The weight spectrum ranges from 1 – 50kg. 2000kg is possible with Big Bags.
"We can find a solution for almost every possible 'product – packaging – weight' combination, completely customised to suit customer wishes," said Robert Brüggemann, business unit manager of Haver Chemicals.
