UltraTech Cement announces planned Maihar cement plant expansion
03 December 2021India: UltraTech Cement plans to increase the production capacity at its Maihar cement plant by 50%. Denmark-based FLSmidth will carry out the expansion project, which also involves the installation of a new calciner and JetFlex burner, along with other pyroprocessing equipment. The supplier says that the upgrade will facilitate greater alternative fuel substitution at the plant in Madhya Pradesh.
FLSmidth’s cement president Carsten Riisberg Lund said “We are pleased to continue our long-lasting collaboration with UltraTech Cement. With the new upgrades to the pyro sections, installing MissionZero flagship offerings, such as the low-NOx calciner and JetFlex burner, UltraTech makes a significant investment in future-proofing its sustainable production.”
China: Australia-based FCT Combustion has announced a formal alliance with air pollution control partner Enelco Environmental Technology (EET). Together the companies will target the Chinese cement, steel, glass and other markets. EET has become the exclusive China representative of FCT Combustion, with which it shares its capabilities and resources in the service of Chinese customers.
The two companies have set up a joint office in Nanjing, Jiangsu province. A workshop in Bengbu, Anhui province will support its work. FCT Combustion and EET also plan to launch local technical support, engineering and procurement teams for customers in China.
FCT Group chief executive officer Adriano Greco said “We have great respect for our growing customer base within China and believe that it is important to establish a locally based business unit so that we can deliver the best outcomes and customer experiences, providing customer service and engineering according to the local culture and language, as well as local procurement to offer the most cost-effective solution.”
Loesche buys Dynamis
24 November 2021Brazil: Germany-based Loesche says that it has acquired burner manufacturer Dynamis for an undisclosed amount. The engineering company was founded in 2003 and its products include the D-Gasifier, the D-Flame Burner, the D-Igniter, and the D-HotGas. Dynamis said it was excited by the opportunities that the agreement with Loesche would bring.
Russia: Kavkazcement has announced that it will use its Kavkaz cement plant's annual shutdown in the winter of 2021 - 2022 to upgrade the plant's raw materials mills and kiln lines. The Eurocement subsidiary plans to spend US$7.14m on the work, which also includes the replacement of burners in kilns 2 and 4 and the installation of new drying drums, compressors and electrostatic precipitators. The upgrade will increase the 3Mt/yr plant's cement capacity by 10% and its clinker capacity by 30%. Managing director Vladimir Sokoltsov said that the upgrade focused on minimising the plant's environmental impacts.
Sokoltsov said “We will prepare the plant for the high construction season in April 2022. Our products are used in the construction of the largest industrial, transport and municipalinfrastructure in southern Russia." He continued "We understand that the quality of life of a large number of people depends on the pace of our work.”
Fabien Illy appointed as executive director at Fives Pillard
06 October 2021France: Fives Pillard has appointed Fabien Illy as an executive director. His main role will be to drive the business strategy, the international development of the company and boost its growth.
Illy first started his career at Air Liquide where he worked in its research and development department for combustion and cryogenics. He joined Fives Group in 2015 and has held various positions from sales and business development to management. He holds a master’s degree in thermal engineering from the CentraleSupélec graduate engineering school of Paris-Saclay University in Gif-sur-Yvette, France.

Fives performs remote commissioning to replace a burner at a cement plant in East Asia
15 September 2021Asia: France-based Fives says it has commissioned a Pillard Novaflam Evolution burner for an unnamed cement plant in East Asia. Due to the travel restrictions linked to the coronavirus pandemic, the commissioning was carried out remotely with the cooperation of the customer. A 143MW coal and petcoke burner with oil as a start-up fuel was supplied as a replacement for an old burner. The aim of this replacement was to increase the kiln capacity to 9000t/day without impacting its NOx emissions whilst maintaining a good clinker quality despite a high sulphur content in the petcoke. The installation is now in production and an intervention is planned in the coming weeks to further optimise the operation.
FCT Combustion supplies Turbu-Flex burner to HeidelbergCement’s Burglengenfeld cement plant
10 August 2021Germany: Australia-based FCT Combustion has delivered a Turbu-Flex burner to HeidelbergCement’s Burglengenfeld, Bavaria, cement plant. The joint aims of the project are to improve combustion control and to increase the alternative fuel (AF) substitution rate in the plant’s kiln lines. The equipment is scheduled for commissioning in early 2022.
Australia: FCT Group has appointed Adriano Greco as its chief executive officer (CEO). He succeeds Constantine Manias in the role, who will retain the post of executive chairman.
Greco has served the company as American regional CEO since 2015 and implemented its Brazilian business. He brings over 20 years of pyro-processing experience from management roles in the Americas, China and Europe while working for Greco Combustion Systems and Gebr. Pfeiffer.
Australia: FCT Combustion has appointed Andy Bailes as its new chief executive officer for Asia-Pacific.
Bailes joins FCT after working for almost 30 years at Metso in Australia, having spent 10 years as General Manager – Engineered Product Services, where he was responsible for managing a large team covering proposals, sales, technical, commercial and contractual obligation of the EP Products (Grinding, Pyro, Process & BMH) Group within the Australia and New Zealand region. He is a previous winner of the NEI International Combustion Scholarship for Chemical Engineering and holds additional qualifications in Business Administration and Management.
IKN to equip new line at Qizilqumsement cement plant
24 March 2021Uzbekistan: Germany-based IKN has secured a contract for process integration and equipment design for a new kiln line at Qizilqumsement’s Qizilqumsement cement plant. The supplier’s remit includes the pyroprocessing line, preheater, kiln and cooler including ID fan, kiln drive and burners. It plans to use a six-stage preheater, the region’s first. Commissioning is scheduled for 2022.
