Aumund to supply clinker-conveying equipment to projects in Algeria

Algeria: Germany’s Aumund has received two clinker conveying equipment orders for cement plants at Zahana and Bechar. The two orders comprise 26 belt and chain bucket elevators, two bucket apron conveyors, ten pan conveyors and ten drag chain conveyors. No value for the deals has been disclosed.

The first order is for the 4500t/day Société des Ciments de Zahana (SCIZ) plant near Oran. Here three chain bucket elevators with centre distances ranging from 22.5 - 34.9m and capacities from 50 - 220t/hr will be used to convey cement and clinker. 11 belt bucket elevators (22.5 -116.1m) will convey raw meal, cement and clinker with capacities between 190 - 680t/hr. The Aumund bucket apron conveyor, with a centre distance of 61.1m and a capacity of 360t/hr, will join the five Aumund pan conveyors (18.3 - 106.8m, capacity 300 - 360t/hr) in conveying clinker. The ten Aumund drag chain conveyors with centre distances between 6.1 - 33.8m will be used in clinker dust extraction and are designed for conveying capacities from 15 - 80t/hr.

The second order is for the 3200t/day Bechar cement plant. This order was placed by China’s CBMI to Aumund Beijing with support from Aumund France. This plant will operate 15 Aumund belt and chain bucket elevators, five Aumund pan conveyors and an Aumund bucket apron conveyor for its bulk materials handling. The bucket elevators, with centre distances ranging from 11 - 102.9m, will convey raw meal, cement and clinker with capacities from 70 – 480t/hr. The five pan conveyors, with centre distances from 22.2 - 89.8m, will convey their loads at up to 480t/hr. The Aumund bucket apron conveyor in Bechar (centre distance 88.5m, capacity 200t/hr) will also convey clinker.

CILAS exports 35,000t of clinker to West Africa

Algeria: Ciment Lafarge Souakri (CILAS) has started its first clinker export from the port of Annaba to West Africa. The consignment totalled 35,000t, according to the El Watan newspaper. LafargeHolcim Algeria said that the delivery from its subsidiary was part of its target to export 2Mt of surplus production by 2020. The 2.7Mt/yr CILAS plant started production in mid-2016.

LafargeHolcim Algeria calls for improvements to export procedures

Algeria: Hafid Aouchiche, the import and export head at LafargeHolcim Algeria, has called for improvements to how the country manages its exports of cement and clinker. At a logistics symposium he emphasised the importance of better storage and loading infrastructure at ports, according to the El Moudjahid newspaper. He also noted the higher rates at Algerian ports for exporting clinker compared to ports in other countries. The cement producer has exported nearly 0.35Mt of cement and clinker so far in 2018.

Zahana Cement orders crusher from Bedeschi

Algeria: Zahana Cement, part of Groupe des Ciments d’Algérie (GICA), has ordered a RL 850/1500 double roller crusher from Italy’s Bedeschi. The contract is on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis and it includes the supply of the new machine, designed for 500t/hr of marl, the removal of the existing machine and the installation of the new crusher with the revamping of the existing electrical board. Commissioning is expected by mid-2018.

ASEC looking to leave Zahana

Algeria: Egypt’s Qalaa Holdings has announced that its subsidiary ASEC Cement is looking to exit from Algeria-based Zahana Cement Factory. ASEC holds around a 35% stake in the Algerian facility and has so far invested US$62m in the plant, taking its capacity to 0.75Mt/yr. A new 1.6Mt/yr production line is currently being constructed at the plant, with commissioning expected in early 2020.

LafargeHolcim Algeria makes first export of clinker

Algeria: LafargeHolcim Algeria has exported 40,000t of clinker from the port of Oran. This is the company’s first export of clinker, following exports of cement carried out earlier in the year, according to the Algeria Press Service. The subsidiary of LafargeHolcim operates two cement plants in the country and it holds stakes in two others.

China Triumph International Engineering to manage second production line build at STG’s Adrar cement plant

Algeria: China Triumph International Engineering (CTIE) is set to start procuring equipment for a US$211m production line at STG Engineering and Real Estate Development’s plant at Adrar. The line will be the second production line at the site and it will have a production capacity of 4200t/day of marine cement, according to Inside International Industrials. CTIE is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project and its subsidiary Beijing Triumph International Engineering will manage the engineering design work.

GICA aims to export up to 1.5Mt of cement in 2018

Algeria: Groupe des Ciments d’Algérie’s (GICA) aims to export 1 - 1.5Mt of cement in 2018. The Ministry of Industry and Mines said that the group has signed a deal to export 30,000t via its SODISMAC subsidiary, according to the Algeria Press Service. GICA is also in discussion with foreign partners to export other products such as limestone and gypsum. The cement company handles its exports via the ports of Arzew and Djendjen.

In 2017, the group recorded record cement production of nearly 14Mt compared with 12.6Mt in 2016. It exported 45,000t of cement in May 2018 under a contract with a total volume of 200,000t.

Lafarge Algeria to focus on exports and roads in 2018

Algeria: Lafarge Algeria says it plans to focus on exports and roads in 2018. Serge Dubois, director of public relations at the company, said that it intends to export 5Mt or 30% of the market by 2020, according to the El Watan newspaper. The cement producer has already conducted seven export operations since Decemebr 2017 to West Africa. The other priority is to encourage the use of cement in local infrastructure, incuding road expansion plans.

Cimprogetti making progress on lime plant project for Algerian Qatari Steel

Algeria: Italy’s Cimprogetti says it is making progress on a lime plant it is building with Bedeschi for Algerian Qatari Steel. The project is to build a lime plant supporting a steel plant at Bellara in Jijel. It includes the design and supply of the entire lime plant, from the limestone receiving area to quicklime storage, which is directly connected to the Danieli steel mill. The design of power and control systems has been developed by Cimprogetti, including the supply of all electrical panels, medium and low voltage transformers, the diesel generator set and all cables. Cimprogetti is also working with Idom, a Spanish company, on the design and erection phases of the project.

The lime plant will use two Flex Reversy 9 kilns with a daily production of 420t/day each, and will be operated with natural gas. The mechanical erection is almost complete and the electrical installation has recently started. The erection works are being checked by Cimprogetti site engineers in collaboration with the end user.
