Egypt: Alexandria Portland Cement has reported a 54% year-on-year decrease in net losses to US$2.26m in the first quarter of 2020 from US$4.91m in the corresponding quarter of 2019.
Alexandria Portland Cement’s losses narrow
26 February 2020Egypt: Alexandria Portland Cement has reduced its margin of loss by 40% year-on-year to US$15.2m in 2019 from US$25.3m in 2018.
Greece-based Titan Cement is the 89% owner of Alexandria Portland Cement via its subsidiary Alexandria Development Ltd.
Egypt: Alexandria Development Ltd, which owns an 88.93% stake in Alexandria Portland Cement, has submitted an offer for the remaining 11.07% of the company. In a statement to the Egyptian Exchange it stated its intention to delist Alexandria Portland Cement after completing its acquisition of the latter. Alexandria Development Ltd’s indirect owner is Greece-based Titan Cement.
Egypt: Greek-owned Titan Cement has made a major acquisition in buying the International Finance Corporation (IFC)’s 17.3% stake in Alexandria Development Ltd. Alexandria Development Ltd is 82.7% indirectly held by Titan Cement. It is the 88.9% owner of Alexandria Portland Cement, according to Mubasher. Alexandria Portland Cement made losses of US$4.56m in the nine months to 30 September 2019.
Alexandria Portland Cement makes US$1.93m land sale to combat losses
13 September 2019Egypt: Alexandria Portland Cement has sold a 15.9km2 parcel of disused land in Ad Dakhila. Mubasher reports that the company, the losses of which increased by 29.5% year-on-year to US$10.3m in 2019, received US$1.93m from the sale.
Egypt: Alexandria Cement has reported that, in the first half of 2015, its consolidated net sales grew by 3% year-on-year to US$130m. It incurred consolidated pre-tax net loss of US$9.32m compared to US$14.9m in the same period of 2014. Alexandria Cement's standalone pre-tax net loss was US$6.13m, compared to US$31.4m in 2014.
Drop in quarterly profit for Alexandria Portland Cement
05 August 2014Egypt: Alexandria Portland Cement has reported a 79% year-on-year drop in its profit for the first quarter of the 2014 fiscal year, which ended on 30 June 2014. Its consolidated net profit fell from US$25.9m in the first quarter of 2013 to US$5.45m in the first quarter of 2014.
Egyptian cement producers cope with gas shortages
27 June 2013Egypt: Several Egyptian cement producers have reported how they are coping with gas shortages in the country. Production at South Valley Cement has stopped. The company has announced that the gas supply will resume on 28 June 2013. Alexandria Portland Cement has reported that its plant has not stopped production. Its subsidiary, Beni Suef Cement, has reported that it cannot yet assess the impact of the shortage on production.
The National Cement Company has announced that operations are ongoing on a normal basis and that there are no shortages in gas capacity. Misr Cement Qena has said that its cement plants are operating using Mazut and not natural gas. However, due to a shortage in the supply of Mazut, clinker production has been suspended more than once recently.
Alexandria Cement continues production throughout hostage drama
20 February 2013Egypt: Alexandria Cement continued producing cement during a recent hostage scenario. In a release to the Egyptian Stock Exchange the producer announced that on 14 February 2013 some subcontractors trapped a number of their management officials and Alexandria Cement's management, including the factory manager. The subcontractors were calling for permanent contracts.
Alexandria Cement informed the authorities. The hostages were freed on 17 February 2013. All of the accused workers were arrested. Throughout the situation Alexandria Cement continued to produce cement, although deliveries were halted during this period.
