Vietnam: The State Audit Office of Vietnam (SAV) has uncovered limestone mining activity above licensed levels by multiple subsidiaries of the Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (VICEM) between 2017 and 2022. In 2021, Vicem Bim Son’s Yen Duyen quarry yielded 499,000t of limestone, 14% above its licensed capacity. That same year, Vicem Hoang Mai extracted 154,000t of limestone from its Hoang Mai B quarry, 8.5% above capacity, while Vicem Tam Diep extracted 111,000t from its Hang Nuoc quarry, 6% above capacity.

The Viêt Nam News newspaper has reported that the SAV has asked Vicem to review the causes of the discrepancy between production and licences and clarify its responsibility.

Vietnam: Cement producers have raised their prices due to mounting coal costs. In October 2021 Bim Son Cement increased the cost of its products by 6%, according to the Viet Nam News newspaper. Other manufacturers have done likewise. Data from the Vietnam Association of Construction Contractors shows that local coal prices have grown by 7 – 10% recently. Coal represents around 40 – 45% of the production cost of cement. Prices of diesel and additives have also risen.

Vietnam: Bim Son Cement has ordered a vertical roller mill to grind clinker and slag from Loesche for its 4Mt/yr plant in Thanh Hóa province. The new mill will have a throughput of 250t/hr and be able to grind input materials into Ordinary Portland Cement PCB 40. The order also includes a silo, blower, filter and a packing plant. The new mill is scheduled for commissioning in August 2017. No value for the order has been disclosed.

The subsidiary of Vietnam National Cement Corporation (VICEM) previously commissioned a mill from Loesche in 2000. This was followed by a raw mill and a coal mill in 2006.
