Algerian cement exports expected to reach US$400m by 2021
20 November 2019Algeria: Trade Minister Said Djellab has revealed that the country’s cement exports are expected to reach a value of US$400m by 2021. Export earnings were around US$20m in 2018 and then tripled to US$60m in 2019, according to the El Mujahid newspaper. The minister made the comments at a ceremony marking an export of cement from a Ciment Lafarge Souakri (CILAS) plant. He added that the local market has a cement production capacity of 40Mt/yr and that only 22Mt/yr is required domestically. Producers are targeting countries in west Africa, including Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Gabon and Mali.
Algeria: Ciment Lafarge Souakri (CILAS) has started exporting a consignment of 30,000t of cement to Cameroon. The operation was handled via the port of Annaba, according to Radio Algeria. It is the cement producer’s sixth large-scale export operation to another Africa country. The subsidiary of LafargeHolcim is using Lafarge Trading to supply logistical support.
CILAS exports 35,000t of clinker to West Africa
17 December 2018Algeria: Ciment Lafarge Souakri (CILAS) has started its first clinker export from the port of Annaba to West Africa. The consignment totalled 35,000t, according to the El Watan newspaper. LafargeHolcim Algeria said that the delivery from its subsidiary was part of its target to export 2Mt of surplus production by 2020. The 2.7Mt/yr CILAS plant started production in mid-2016.
