World Cement Association appoints three new directors

UK: The World Cement Association (WCA) has appointed three new directors: Fabien Charbonnel, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Cem’In’Eu; Xu Gang, the chair of the board of Maweni Limestone and Vice President and Head of Overseas Area of its parent company Huaxin Cement; and Kevin Lunney, the chief operations officer of Mannok Holdings. The appointments were agreed at the WCA General Assembly Meeting, which took place in January 2023.

At the same time Mohammed Ali Al-Garni, the CEO of Saudi Cement, and Roland van Wijnen, the CEO of PPC, were re-elected to the board of directors. Vincent Lefebvre, the founder and executive chair of Cem’In’Eu, and Mahendra Singhi, the managing director and CEO of Dalmia Cement, have also resigned as directors. They joined the board of directors of the WCA in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Cem’In’Eu plans second grinding plant

France: Cem’In’Eu has announced plans to establish a Euro23.0m grinding plant at Portes-lès-Valence in Drôme department. The La Tribune newspaper has reported that the plant will receive imported clinker produced at Adana Çimento’s 5.2Mt/yr integrated Adana plant in Turkey by river and rail from the port of Sète. Cem’In’Eu president and Vincent Lefebvre said that the location “allows us to be in the middle of a Lyon-Marseille-Montpellier triangle but also to be connected to the Alpine valleys.”

The grinding plant is due for commissioning in mid-July 2021, however the coronavirus has delayed the start of construction.

Cem’In’Eu obtains NF hydraulic binders certification for Aliénor plant

France: Cem’In’Eu has obtained NF hydraulic binders certification for its Aliénor plant in Tonneins from the Technical Association of Hydraulic Binders. It covers CEM I 52.5 R cement. The cement producer is currently seeking NF certification for other types of cement in its product range. The latest certification follows ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 accreditation at the cement grinding plant.

Cem’In’Eu orders 0.25Mt/yr grinding plant from Fives

France: Cem’In’Eu has ordered a 0.25Mt/yr grinding unit from Fives for its Portes les Valence plant in Drôme. The plant has an investment of Euro24m and it is scheduled to open in the second half of 2020. The scope of supply includes raw materials loading, clinker, limestone and gypsum hoppers, a 34t/hrt CEM II A/L FCB B-mill (ball mill) operating in a closed circuit with a FCB TSV dynamic classifier. The Portes les Valence project follows the opening of Cem’In’Eu’s grinding plant at Aliénor in Tonneins in 2018.

Cem'In'Eu to raise Euro55m by end of 2019 to fund plant expansion

France: Cem'In'Eu plans to raise Euro55m by the end of 2019 to support building new cement grinding plants in Europe. It opened its first 0.25Mt/yr grinding plant at Tonneins, Lot et Garonne in 2018, according to Les Echos newspaper. Construction of a new plant at Portes-lès-Valence, Drôme is scheduled to start in mid-2019. Construction of a larger 0.5Mt/yr plant at Montreuil-Bellay, Maine-et-Loire is anticipated to start in September 2019 for a commissioning date of February 2021. This project will cost Euro35m. Other projects are planned for Chalon-sur-Saône, Saône et Loire and Ottmarsheim.

International projects include a plant at Ottmarsheim, Haut-Rhin in Switzerland and Thamesport in the UK. The former is expected to gather all the necessary permits by September 2019 with construction to follow by the end of the year. An additional project is being planned at the port of Gdynia in Poland.

Cem'In'Eu to open Montreuil-Bellay grinding plant in 2021

France: Cem'In'Eu is preparing to open a 0.24Mt/yr cement grinding plant at Montreuil-Bellay in Maine-et-Loire in 2021. The aspiring cement producer submitted planning and environmental permit applications in March 2018, according to the Le Moniteur des travaux publics et du bâtiment magazine. The company hopes to obtain authorisation for the project in the first half of 2019 and start construction work in 2020. Cement from the plant will be marketed under the ‘Val de Loire Ciments’ brand and targeted to central and western France.

Cem'In'Eu to open first grinding plant in May 2018

France: Cem'In'Eu intends to open its first cement grinding plant in May 2018. The 0.24Mt/yr plant is located at Tonneins in Lot et Garonne, according to Les Echos newspaper. It has had an investment of Euro18m. The company is planning to open new grinding pants at the rate of one per year.

New locations include Chalon-sur-Saone in Saone-et-Loire, Portes-lès-Valence in Drôme, Montreuil-Bellay in Maine-et-Loire and Mulhouse-Ottmarsheim. Internationally the company is also considering new plants in London in the UK, Poland, Switzerland and Germany. Financing for the company is provided by Pergam, a French private equity firm that has already raised Euro33m.
