Claudius Peters wins award for adopting agile development process
20 December 2018US: Claudius Peters has been awarded the ‘Innovator of the Year’ award in the Design & Manufacturing category at the Autodesk University (AU) Las Vegas in November 2018. It was given due to changes Claudius Peters made to its engineering and business processes, which led in turn to a ’generative design’ approach to some of its largest manufactured components, including its clinker cooler product. The equipment manufacturer has adopted an agile project management system similar to that used in computer software development. It has removed traditional departmental barriers between engineering and manufacturing teams and replaced them with ‘scrum’ teams of 5 to 9 persons.
“Our project team included young people who embraced this new concept and understood that the electric light didn’t come from the continuous improvement of candles. It needed a complete change. That’s how we came to try generative design. By inputting the project parameters, computers can do the heavy lifting, freeing up our engineers to innovate,” said Thomas Nagel, Chief Digital Officer at Claudius Peters.
Mordovcement officially opens grinding unit
09 October 2018Russia: Filaret Galchev, the chairman of Eurocement, and Vladimir Sushkov, the chairman of the government of the Republic of Mordovia, has officially opened a Euro65m grinding unit at the Mordovcement plant. The new grinding unit includes two ball mills with a production capacity of 2.6Mt/yr, a 50,000t clinker warehouse and rail and truck despatch silos. Eurocement used equipment from Christian Pfeiffer, Claudius Peters, Aumund and KHD for the upgrade project at its subsidiary.
Lithuania: Claudius Peters has commissioned a turnkey cement silo and discharge equipment for stevedoring company Bega at the Port of Klaipėda. Its scope of supply comprised a rail car unloading system and a storage silo with pneumatic conveying for ship loading to unload three railcars simultaneously up to a capacity of 200t/hr. The storage silo is a Claudius Peters 3300T Conventional Cone cement storage silo 27m high and 12.5m in diameter equipped with a silo bottom fluidisation system.
The pneumatic conveying system utilises a size 350 Claudius Peters X-pump and enables a total conveying distance of 205m. Originally the project was based on a conveying distance of 148m. During the project phase the customer decided to use two different quays with a conveying distance of 148m and 205m. Commissioning was competed at the end of March 2018.
Claudius Peters details upgrade project at Hope Cement
27 February 2018UK: Claudius Peters has released information about an upgrade project at Breedon Group’s Hope Cement plant in Derbyshire. The work included upgrading and replacing the existing kiln feed equipment built with the plant in the 1970s, and increasing the accuracy and capacity of the system to 200t/hr of raw meal for Kiln 1, Kiln 2, and a standby unit. The contact was signed in October 2014 and completed in May 2017. It is one the largest capital expenditure projects undertaken at the site in recent years.
A key challenge on this project was installing new equipment while the plant remained in operation. Claudius Peters supplied and commissioned: three 300 screw pumps complete with pump inlet hoppers with de-dusting filters and modified pipelines; modifications to existing compressors; and three cyclone filters with collection hoppers transport and material transport to pre-heater inlet via rotary feeders.
