Tanzania Railways Corporation plans US$5.6bn railway line
05 December 2023Tanzania: Tanzania Railways Corporation has announced plans to build a 1000km railway across the south of the country, between Lake Nyasa and the Indian Ocean. Business News Africa has reported that the railway will serve Dangote Cement’s local operations, as well as businesses in other industries. The project will cost US$5.6bn, of which Tanzania Railways Corporation has already secured US$2.2bn in potential private investments.
Tanzania: Dangote Cement says that the use of gas generators in its Mtwara cement plant’s equipment and lorries has reduced fuel costs by 45% over the 15-month period since its transition in March 2021. The Citizen newspaper has reported that company recorded total savings over the period up to 30 June 2022. The producer plans to establish a compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station in Dar es Salaam. Its operations remain 70% reliant on rental vehicles that run on oil.
Tanzania: The High Court of Tanzania has ordered G4S Secure Solution to pay Dangote Industries Tanzania US$0.33m for theft and loss of property. In 2018 the security company attempted to sue the subsidiary of Nigeria-based Dangote Cement was for failing to pay for its services, according to the East African newspaper. However, Dangote Cement raised a counterclaim in response due to multiple thefts that it blamed on poor security services.
