Aggregate Industries removes gas duct sections at Cauldon cement plant

29 January 2024

UK: Aggregate Industries has successfully removed gas duct sections from the electrostatic precipitation filter at its Cauldon cement plant in Staffordshire. This will make way for the installation of a new CTP Team process kiln bag filter, following an annual shutdown.

Cauldon plant capital expenditure manager Mark Powling said “The new bag filter not only provides the best available technology, but will enable the Cauldon plant to optimise its plant performance, driving its decarbonisation and alternative fuel strategies. Thanks to the project team for their efforts and hard work to date.”

Arabian Cement Company to install bag filters at Ain Sokhna cement plant

18 January 2024

Egypt: Arabian Cement Company is replacing electrostatic precipitators at its Ain Sokhna cement plant with bag filters. Arab Finance News has reported that the project will commence in two phases. Arabian Cement Company will first install the filters in Line 1 of the plant, before subsequently installing them in Line 2. Italy-based air pollution control specialist Redecam Group will execute the upgrades.

Lafarge Africa upgrade dust emissions control at Ewekoro cement plant

Nigeria: Lafarge Africa has installed a new bag filter at its 3.9Mt/yr Ewekoro cement plant in Ogun State. The filter cost US$8.51m. Lafarge Africa says that the equipment has successfully reduced the plant’s dust emissions to below 50mg/Nm3. The company said that it has made ‘significant adjustments’ to its production activities, besides introducing air quality measurement systems across a 10km radius of the plant.

Lafarge Africa’s head of health, safety and environment Rachael Ezembakwe said “Care for the environment and for our host communities is built into all aspects of our operations within the country. Our social impact is focused on the areas of the most need: education, empowerment, health and safety, and shelter/infrastructure.”

LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire invests US$677,000 in sustainability since 2020

Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire has invested a total US$677,000 in sustainability-enhancing upgrades to its 2Mt/yr Abidjan grinding plant since 2020. Agence Ivoirienne de Presse has reported that the producer has now implemented 80% of recommendations made by sustainability auditor Centre Ivoirien Antipollution (CIAPOL). Recommendations included the installation of dust capture systems.

General manager Rachis Yousry said "In 2022, LafargeHolcim received zero complaints from local residents for environmental degradation.” He added the producer was on track to realise net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.

ScrapeTec to present new DustScrape dust management system at SOLIDS Dortmund

Germany: ScrapeTec will present its latest generation DustScrape dust management system at the SOLIDS Dortmund bulk handling technologies exhibition in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia. ScrapeTec says that the new model boasts increased box robustness and is specifically designed for use in closed transfers with high material pressure. It works without the use of energy and also saves energy by enabling users to switch off existing dust extraction systems.

A TEC to install ReduChlor chlorine bypass system at Holcim Schweiz’s Eclépens cement plant

Switzerland: A TEC has secured a contract to install a new ReduChlor chlorine bypass system at Holcim Schweiz’s Eclépens cement plant in Vaud. The supplier says that it will also fit a bypass dust handling system and upgrade the alternative fuel (AF) feeding system at the plant.

Republic Cement prepares for infrastructure boom

17 August 2016

Philippines: Republic Cement is expanding its grinding capacity by over 10% in anticipation of a rise in demand prompted by increased government infrastructure spending. Other planned upgrades include an improved dust collection system at the cement producer’s plant in Bulacan. The company is also considering building new cement plants. Company president Renato C Sunico made the comments to local press at a forum on social housing.

The government of the Philippines has cited public infrastructure as one of its general spending priorities, setting aside US$18.5bn, which is equivalent to 5.4% of gross domestic product, in 2017.

Laura Stiverson appointed president of Dust Control Technology

27 July 2016

US: Dust Control Technology (DCT) has appointed Laura Stiverson as its president. She joined the firm in 2008 and has been the general manager for five years. Stiverson has been cited as instrumental in developing a number of the company’s products, including the OdorBoss family of machines and the Fusion equipment design.

Incorporated in 2004, DCT supplies open-area dust suppression equipment for applications in recycling, demolition, waste and scrap handling, mining, slag and ash management, coal processing, landfills and other industries. Headquartered in Peoria, Illinois, the company supplies its dust and odour control products to customers around the world.
