JK Cement to raise US$64.4m
23 May 2022India: The board of JK Cement has recommended a proposal for the company to seek to raise US$64.4m via non-convertible debentures (NCDs). Under the proposal, the cement producer would issue the NCDs on a private placement basis in one or more tranches.
Huaxin Cement approved for first carbon emission reduction loan in the Chinese cement sector
13 May 2022China: Huaxin Cement says it has been approved for a US$5.8m preferential carbon emission reduction loan. It is the first such finance arrangement in the local cement sector. The People's Bank of China established a carbon emission reduction support tool in November 2021 to guide financial institutions to increase green and low-carbon credit support. Huaxin Cement’s Huangshi subsidiary put together its application based around a waste heat recovery project. It then worked with the Bank of Communications and the People's Bank of China. The cement producer says that its other subsidiaries are now working on similar applications.
Gansu Qilianshan Cement to restructure
25 April 2022China: Gansu Qilianshan Cement plans to restructure its business. The group says that, should it proceed with its proposed restructuring, it will issue shares. Reuters News has reported that the restructuring may constitute a material asset restructuring.
Canada: Carbon Upcycling Technologies has secured US$6.15m in financing from a group of companies led by Clean Energy Ventures, Cemex Ventures, Amplify Capital and Oxy Low Carbon Ventures (OLCV). The investment round includes participation from Zero Carbon Partners, Purpose ESG, Clean Energy Venture Group, Fund for Sustainability and Energy, Prithvi Ventures, Bryan Trudel, and Mark and Faye McGregor. Carbon Upcycling intends to use the funding to grow its team and build its second commercial-scale facility in North America, with a production capacity of over 200t/day of its cement and concrete additive. Carbon Upcycling sequesters CO2 in secondary cementitious materials such as fly ash, which are then used in cement or concrete production.
Saudi Arabia: Yamama Cement has signed a US$443m financing agreement with Saudi National Bank (SNB). The company plans to invest the funds in its relocation of a 10,000t/day kiln line to its Northern Halal, Al Kharj, plant from the site of its former plant in Riyadh. This will help towards its aim of increasing the Northern Halal plant’s capacity to 30,000t/day by 2025. The loan consists of US$213m in long-term financing for a period of eight years, US$150m in refinancing of the long-term funding for a duration of four years and US$80m in short-term financing for one year.
Jaypee Infratech fined US$9140 for non-disclosure of non-convertible debt securities issue
15 March 2022India: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has fined Jaypee Infratech US$9140 for its failure to disclose its issue of a series of non-convertible debt securities. The company additionally failed to inform the BSE exchange of defaults in payment with respect to some of the series.
Raysut Cement to raise up to US$600m
10 March 2022Oman: Raysut Cement has announced plans to issue a secured rated debt instrument to raise up to US$600m. Reuters News has reported the instrument will raise funds for the company’s growth initiatives and existing bilateral debt repayments. Raysut Cement plans to carry it out in two tranches.
Novo Holdings invests US$65m in Biomason
01 March 2022US: Denmark-based life sciences investment company Novo Holdings says that it has invested US$65m in bio-based clinker-free cement producer Biomason. Biomason uses microorganisms to grow its Biocement cement, without heating or CO2 emissions. The producer is in its Series C round of financing. Novo Holdings previously invested in its Series B financing round.
Titan Cement completes buyback of 2.2% of shares
22 February 2022Greece: Titan Cement has advised the Athens Stock Exchange (ATHEX) that it has bought back a total of 2.2% of its shares under its share buyback scheme between 14 and 18 February 2022. It made the purchases both through the ATHEX and the Euronext Brussels exchange.
