CIMAF Gabon launches 32.5 grade cement product

Gabon: Ciments d'Afrique (CIMAF) has launched a 32.5 grade of cement intended for masonry work. Local dignitaries, including government minister Pascal Houangni Ambourouet, Owendo mayor Jeanne Mbagou and Moroccan ambassador Abdellah Sbihi, attended the launch event, according to the Gabon Review. The subsidiary of Morocco based CIMAF already sells a 42.5 grade product on the local market for larger structures.

Cemengal Plug&Grind unit starts production at CIMAF cement plant in Gabon

Gabon: A new 0.35Mt/yr production line has started production at Ciments d'Afrique’s (CIMAF) Owendo grinding plant. Spain-based Cemengal supplied a 50t/hr Plug&Grind X-treme grinding plant for the project. Successful commissioning and start-up of the unit was managed remotely from Madrid in Spain due to the coronavirus pandemic. The upgrade cost around US$16m.

The addition brings the plant’s total production capacity to 0.85Mt/yr, according to Direct Infos Gabon. The cement producer is also planning to spend US$120m towards building an integrated plant in the country. Nationally, the country reportedly now has a production capacity of around 1.2Mt/yr.

Gabonese cement production rises by 10.6% to 0.54Mt in 2019

Gabon: Data from the Directorate General of Economy and Tax Policy shows that national cement production rise by 10.6% year-on-year to 0.54Mt in 2019. The improving trend has been attributed to better use of existing manufacturing equipment and the resumption of activity at the CimGabon plant in Ntoum, according to the L’Union newspaper. Clinker imports also grew, by 14.6% to 0.44Mt. Overall cement sales increased by 8.5% to 0.53Mt.

Dangote Cement plans 1.1Mt/yr grinding plant in Gabon

Gabon: Dangote Cement has shared plans for the construction of a 1.1Mt/yr grinding plant on a greenfield site near the New Owendo Internation Port in Owendo, Komo-Mondah department. Dangote Cement has stated that the US$75m facility, scheduled for completion in early-2021, will ‘close the cement production gap in this emerging country.’ It will supply cement to Gabon and the central African region.

Gabon produces 21% more cement year-on-year in 2019

Gabon: Gabon produced 0.42Mt in 2019, exceeding production figures for 2018 of 0.33Mt by 21%. Sales were US$50.6m – up by 16% from US$42.5m. Direct newspaper attributed the growth to both domestic producers, reporting that CimGabon has improved the efficient use of production equipment, while CIMAF also ramped up production.

Algeria targets emerging markets for booming cement exports

09 December 2019

Algeria: Algeria’s estimated value of exported cement in 2019 is US$60m, up by 200% from US$20m in 2018. Algerian Trade Minister Saïd Djellab noted increases to grinding capacity in Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Gabon and Mali as a potential source of revenue from clinker exports, according to L’Expression. “Algeria can meet the needs of these markets and become their leading supplier of clinker in 2020.” The minister estimated that the total value of cement and clinker exports ‘will reach US$400m by 2021.’

Gabon cement production rises by 42% to 0.49Mt in 2018

Gabon: Cement production rose by 42% year-on-year to 0.49Mt in 2018 from 0.34Mt in 2017. Sales rose at a similar rate to 0.49Mt, according to Infos Gabon. The Ministry of Economy attributed the growth in production and sales to the government’s decision to suspend imports of cement in mid-2017.

CIMAF Gabon assures government it can meet local demand

Gabon: Ciments de l’Afrique (CIMAF) Gabon has assured the government that it can increases national production to over 1Mt/yr from 0.65Mt/yr at present. Carmen Ndaot, the Minister of Industry, and other government representatives visited the CIMAF’s grinding plant as part of an assessment of a memorandum of understanding signed with the subsidiary of Morocco’s CIMAF, according to the L’Union newspaper. The company plans to spend Euro100m towards building a new plant. It is scheduled to be completed by mid-2021.

CIMAF Gabon’s turnover grows by 37% to US$22.8m in first half of 2018

Gabon: Ciments de l’Afrique (CIMAF) Gabon’s sales have grown due to a ‘strong’ demand for cement following a ban of imports since July 2017. Its turnover grew by 37% year-on-year to US$22.8m in first half of 2018 from US$16.7m in the same period in 2017, according to Direct Infos Gabon. Its sales of cement rose by 42% to 0.18Mt from 0.13Mt. Its production also rose by 38% to 0.18Mt from 0.13Mt. Previously, the cement producer said it was planning to start a new production line at its Cimgabon integrated plant by November 2018.

CIMAF to start new production line in Gabon in autumn to meet local demand

Gabon: Morocco’s Ciments de l’Afrique (CIMAF) says it plans to start a new production line at its Cimgabon integrated plant by November 2018. The measure has been announced to meet a sudden surge in demand, according to the L’union newspaper. Cement prices have reportedly nearly doubled in the high construction season.

The cement producer first announced the new clinker production line in mid-2017. It will increase the plant’s production capacity to 0.85Mt/yr from 0.5Mt/yr at present. In addition the company has launched a Euro10m project for an admixture unit for completion by mid-2019.
