China: The government of Jiangsu province has awarded an Environmental Protection certificate to Imerys subsidiary Calderys’ Zhangjiang refractory plant. The company said that the certification results from years of hard to enhance environmental efforts beyond national requirements. One example of the work is dust-proof partitioning around all dust-emitting equipment.
Environment, health and safety supervisor Ricken Ren said, “In 2016, the plant improved the quality of its raw materials. With major work no longer required to lessen the water content of the materials, it was able to reduce the use of its dry kiln, which uses natural gases in its drying process, in turn greatly reducing the plant’s energy consumption. ” He added, “Keeping the plant’s environmental impact as low as possible is a never-ending job, and we cannot lose focus. We perform daily checks to ensure devices such as our dust collectors are working effectively, and we are always monitoring our emissions during operation according to national laws. Every department worked together on environmental protection performance. It is a great teamwork result.”
China: Anhui Conch has continued a cement sale and purchase agreement with Jiangsu Conch Building Materials by entering into a new contract worth US$364m. Subsidiaries of Anhui Conch based in east China will sell a total of 7.5Mt of cement products to Jiangsu Conch, a non-wholly owned subsidiary of Anhui Conch, in 2019. Additionally, three of Anhui Conch’s subsidiaries in Shanghai region will procure 0.13Mt of fly ash and 70,000t of flue gas desulphurisation gypsum from Jiangsu Conch Building Materials in 2019 for a value of around US$3m. The deals follow a similar arrangement for Anhui Conch to sell cement to Jiangsu Conch in 2018.
China: Anhui Conch has signed a cement sale and purchase agreement with Jiangsu Conch Building Materials with a value of up to around US$230m. Subsidiaries of Anhui Conch based in east China will sell a total of 3.5Mt of cement products to Jiangsu Conch, a non-wholly owned subsidiary of Anhui Conch. The contract will last until the end of 2018.
The agreement has been setup for a relatively short time period as a pilot scheme to test the market. The intention is to allow the direct Anhui Conch subsidiaries to focus on production and to enable Jiangsu Conch to concentrate on using its ‘centralised sales advantage.’
Mitsubishi Materials to sell Yantai Mitsubishi Cement to China National Building Material
17 April 2017China: Japan’s Mitsubishi Materials has signed an agreement to sell its 66.7% stake in Yantai Mitsubishi Cement in Shandong to a subsidiary of China National Building Material (CNBM). No value for the sale has been revealed, according to Nikkei. Yantai Mitsubishi has a cement production capacity of 1.2Mt/yr. Mitsubishi Materials will also liquidate two of its Chinese cement admixture producers: one in Shandong and the other in Jiangsu.
The materials producer has blamed the decision on cement production overcapacity in the Chinese market and increasing environmental regulations. Mitsubishi Materials was ordered to halt production three times in 2016. It intends to focus on the US market where infrastructure spending is expected to boost the cement market.
Ministry of Industry and Information Technology sets timetable to eliminate out-dated cement production capacity
05 March 2014China: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has set a timetable for eliminating out-dated cement plants. The MIIT has requested that local governments in China work out structural adjustment plans for the cement industry before the end of March 2014 and propose detailed treatment measures towards on-going and finished contravening cement projects before the end of June 2014, according to the Xinhua Chinese news agency.
Hebei province has been asked to cut its cement production capacity by 60Mt/yr by 2017. Jiangsu province is to cut its production capacity by 10Mt/yr and Jiangxi province must cut its capacity by 5Mt/yr. The MIIT expects that cement production utilisation will be improved to over 75% by the end 2017 after the cement industry follows its measures. Emissions of dust and nitrogen oxide will be cut by more than 40% and the cement industry's average profit margin should be no less than the manufacturing industry's average.
