Cemex Philippines Solid Cement plant lifts new kiln into place
19 January 2021Philippines: Cemex Philippines Solid Cement plant in Antipolo has lifted a new rotary kiln into position as part of a US$235m installation of a new production line at the site. Once complete the new line will add 1.5Mt/yr to the unit’s production capacity increasing the total to 3.4Mt/yr. The new production line will reuse waste hot gases to dry raw materials and high efficiency bag filters reduce improve emissions control. Cemex is also using its proprietary Low Temperature Clinker technology to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
"This milestone demonstrates our full commitment to the development of the country and brings us closer to further strengthening our position in providing the infrastructure and building needs for economic development," said Ignacio Mijares, the chief executive officer (CEO) and president of Cemex Holdings Philippines.
China-based CBMI Construction has been contracted to build the new line. It lifted the new kiln in two days. Tong Laigou, chairman and general manager of CBMI Construction, said that the CBMI and Cemex Philippines' teams worked under strict protocols to secure the safety of the site.
France: LafargeHolcim subsidiary Lafarge France has installed a new rotary kiln at its Martres-Tolosane cement plant. The installation is part of a Euro120m project to build a new production line at the site. The work will also increase the plant’s alternative fuels (AF) substitution rate to 80% from 30%.
The company said, “Once completed the work will increase the productivity of the cement plant, while reducing its environmental impact. The plant will be equipped with the latest environmental technologies, thus increasing the share of energy recovery from waste and its use in the production of clinker. The work will reduce energy consumption, reduce the carbon dioxide (CO2) footprint by 25% - 30% per tonne of cement and create local circular economy loops with partners in the greater South-West.” The on-going upgrade to the plant is on schedule for completion in November 2021.
Turkey: Germany-based IKN has announced its appointment by Kentçim Çimento for engineering and installation of a 4500t/day kiln line at the company’s upcoming 1.6Mt/yr Muğla integrated cement plant in Muğla Province. Production manager Mehmet Fatih Ekici said, “May it be good and auspicious for our country.”
Höganäs Borgestad opens new headquarters
27 April 2020Sweden: Refractories specialist Höganäs Borgestad opened its new headquarters at Gävle, Gävleborg county on 27 April 2020. The facility will house the Energy and Kiln Engineering, Installation and Management departments.
During the coronavirus lockdown one project of note for Höganäs Borgestad has been refractory maintenance at Germany-based HeidelbergCement subsidiary Norcem’s 1.2Mt/yr Brevik cement plant in Telemark, Norway, for which it supplied 600t of refractories and 45 workers over a three week period.
Vostokcement employees attend FLSmidth workshop
16 April 2020Russia: Denmark-based FLSmidth has held an equipment installation and maintenance workshop for Vostokcement employees at Vostokcement subsidiary Spasskcement’s 3.2Mt/yr integrated plant in Primorsky Krai. Employees of Spasskcement, Teploozerskcement and Yakutcement were in attendance, along with employees of Vostokcement partner company Betonych JSC. The workshop focussed on the use of FLSmidth equipment in material handling equipment monitoring and breakdown response, including kiln shell repair optimisation, vibration diagnostics and flaw detection and pneumatic conveying applications.
Akhangarantsement plant receives rotary kiln housing
15 April 2020Uzbekistan: Eurocement subsidiary Akhangarantsement has reported the successful installation of rotary kiln housing at its upcoming 3.0Mt/yr integrated Akhangarantsement plant. The Uzbekistan Daily newspaper has reported that workers completed internal and external welding on the kiln body, while work on jaw and hammer crushers for the raw materials and clinker grinding plants is ongoing. The project is on schedule for completion in mid-2020.
Teploozersky cement completes kiln maintenance
03 April 2020Russia: VostokCement subsidiary Teploozersky Cement has reported the successful completion of scheduled maintenance work on the rotary kiln at its 0.8Mt/yr integrated Teploozersky cement plant in Birobidzhan Oblast. Esmerk Russian News has reported that the work consisted of adjusting furnace units’ positions replacing worn sections of the lining.
Successful test run of new kiln at Entreprise des Ciments et Dérivés d'El Chellif plant
11 March 2020Algeria: Fives has reported that it has installed and produced a batch of clinker with a new 6000t/day FCB kiln line at Entreprise des Ciments et Dérivés d'El Chellif (ECDE)’s integrated 1.0Mt/yr Chlef cement plant. When commissioned, the line will bring the plant’s capacity to 3.2Mt/yr.
Manyara Cement plans 0.2Mt/yr integrated plant
25 February 2020Tanzania: Manyara Cement has shared plans for a 0.2Mt/yr integrated cement plant in Hanang district, for which it has already acquired limestone and pumice extraction licences for sites around Mount Hanang. The plant will use a vertical shaft kiln.
The plant will sell cement on the northern Tanzanian and southern Kenyan markets.
Kavkazcement plant receives new kiln
02 January 2020Russia: Eurocement subsidiary Kavkazcement has installed and commissioned a dry kiln to replace its reserve kiln at its plant in the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia. The new kiln is part of a Euro5.79m investment which will increase the current 3.1Mt/yr integrated plant’s capacity by over 40% to 4.4Mt/yr when commissioned in mid-2020. Oleg Lopatin, Kavkazcement director general, said “A significant increase in the plant’s workload was made possible by the high demand for our cements.”
