Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire has invested a total US$677,000 in sustainability-enhancing upgrades to its 2Mt/yr Abidjan grinding plant since 2020. Agence Ivoirienne de Presse has reported that the producer has now implemented 80% of recommendations made by sustainability auditor Centre Ivoirien Antipollution (CIAPOL). Recommendations included the installation of dust capture systems.
General manager Rachis Yousry said "In 2022, LafargeHolcim received zero complaints from local residents for environmental degradation.” He added the producer was on track to realise net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
Ivory Coast: The local cement sector is preparing to reach a production capacity of 20Mt/yr by the end of 2022. Albert Kouatelay, director of deputy cabinet of the Ivorian Minister of Trade, Industry and Promotion of SMEs, made the comment at the launch event for LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire's new white cement product, according to the Agence de Presse Africaine. The country has 13 cement plants and the latest boost is expected once a new cement unit starts operation. Domestic production capacity was reportedly 2.4Mt/yr in 2011, 12.5Mt/yr in 2019 and 17Mt/yr in 2022.
LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire to produce white cement at Abidjan grinding plant from 2022
20 October 2021Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire has announced plans for the launch of white cement production at its Abidjan grinding plant in 2022. APA News has reported that the plant's clinker costs increased by 80% quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter of 2021. This, along with a drop in grey cement prices, inspired the strategic change.
Chief executive officer and managing director Rachid Yousry said "Our ambition is clear; it is to be the benchmark cement supplier in the Ivory Coast through our services." The 2.5Mt/yr-capacity producer held a 20% market share in the country in 2020.
Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim Ivory Coast has appointed Rachid Yousry as its chief executive officer. He succeeds Xavier Saint-Martin-Tillet, who has been in the post since November 2020, according to the Financial Afrik newspaper.
Yousry has worked for LafargeHolcim in a number of supply chain and sales roles since 2011. His last posting was as the Country Commercial & Supply Chain Director for LafargeHolcim Jordan. Prior to working for LafargeHolcim, he held roles at Teleinfo 5, Unilever, AMS Baeshen. Yousry holds a bachelors degree in information technology and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the École des Ponts Business School.
Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire commissioned a new clinker discharge equipment at its Abidjan cement plant in June 2020. Aumund France supplied the equipment. It consists of a 75,000t-capacity silo, two Aumund KZB pan conveyors with ten gravity discharge gates, four Aumund GF belt conveyors and a dedusting system comprising five filters, as well as the complete electrics and automation package for the new discharge system. The supplier says that it also supervised installation and commissioning of the equipment.
LafargeHolcim celebrates Ebimpé Olympic stadium inauguration
07 October 2020Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire says that it is proud to have contributed 60,000t of its Bélier Extra cement to the construction of the Ebimpé Olympic Stadium. Chief executive officer (CEO) Serge Gbotta said, “It is a real honour for all our teams to see their products accomplish international wonders. This is what we are working hard for. We are satisfied to see that, for its quality, Bélier Extra cement remains undeniably the first choice of construction and public works players.”
Nicknamed the ‘Arc de Triomphe,’ the Olympic Stadium will be the official home of the Ivory Coast national football team.
Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim Ivory Coast has appointed Serge Gbotta as its new managing director. He succeeds Xavier Saint-Martin-Tillet, who has become the head of the West Africa region of the group. Gbotta was previously the Commercial and Logistics Director at LafargeHolcim Ivory Coast since 2015. Prior to this he has worked at Maersk, Air Liquide, DHL and ADM. Gbotta trained as a civil engineer at the ENSTP Yamoussoukro in Abijan. He also holds an MBA from the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS).
LafargeHolcim Ivory Coast launches online sales
24 June 2019Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim Ivory Coast has launched online sales of its products on the Jumia e-commerce platform. The online store is aimed at individual and small business customers, according to the Agence Ivoirienne de Presse. The project is starting in a pilot phase in Abidjan and Bingerville. Deliveries of orders made online are coordinated with the company’s Binastore network around the country.
Xavier Saint-Martin-Tillet appointed head of Association of Cement Producers of Cote d'Ivoire
04 October 2017Ivory Coast: Xavier Saint-Martin-Tillet, the chief executive officer of LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire has been appointed as the head of the Association of Cement Producers of Cote d'Ivoire (APCCI). His term will last two years, according to Financial Afrik. He will be assisted by Soro Nagolo, deputy general manager of the Société des Ciments d'Abidjan (SCA), who will serve as the vice-president of the association.
Saint-Martin-Tillet is a graduate of the École Centrale Paris in France. He spent 20 years working for Lafarge before joining LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire in October 2016 as its managing director.
