Dalmia Cement’s Calcom plant received fly ash from Uttar Pradesh
15 October 2020India: Dalmia Cement has imported 3830t of fly ash from a National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) power plant in Uttar Pradesh for use at its 0.8Mt/yr-capacity integrated Calcom cement plant in Assam. United News of India has reported that the supplementary cementitious material (SCM) travelled over 1000km.
62.9GW-total capacity NTPC produces 65Mt/yr of fly ash, some of which is used by ACC at its cement plants in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab.
Star Cement imports fly ash via Bangladesh
08 October 2018India: Star Cement has imported over 1200t of fly ash from NTPC Kahalgaon in Bihar. The ash was transported by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) via Bangladesh to Pandu Port in Assam, according to the Financial Express newspaper. The water route was chosen due to a lack of railway links in India's north-eastern states.
India: 15 companies have expressed interest in building cemeunt plants near to NTPC’s power stations. The electricity generation company sought cement producers in early 2017 to submit expressions of interest for partnerships to build 1Mt/yr cement plants, according to the Mint newspaper. NTPC wants its partners to sign long-term agreements with it to exclusively use fly ash and electricity from its power plants. The company has declined to name the companies that have expressed interest in the scheme. However, the power plants it wants to set up cement plants near include Barh, Farakka, Bongaigaon, Dadri, Badarpur, Moda and Aravali Power.
Indian power company NTPC seeks partners to build cement plants
16 February 2017India: NTPC is looking for cement producers to help it build cement plants to take advantage of its fly ash and electricity. The power generation company is asking cement producers to submit expressions of interest for partnerships to build 1Mt/yr cement plants near its power stations, according to the Times of India. Partners will have to source their fly ash from NTPC but will be responsible for marketing their own products. NTPC has previously tried to enter the cement market since 2008 with both partners including the Cement Corporation of India and on its own. It produces 65Mt/yr of fly ash.
NTPC’s power plant sets up bagging machines for fly-ash
16 October 2014India: In response to local concerns over the open-filling of fly-ash, an NTPC-owned thermal power plant in Kahalgaon, Bihar will install bagging machines for its fly-ash production. The facility provides fly-ash to cement makers in the northeast and is setting up six packing machines filling a total of 4800bags/hr or 4000t/day. The facility had been warned by the pollution control board, which has asked NTPC to deposit US$16,243 as security against the prescribed environmental measures. The board has said that the plant will be closed if it continues to violate the 'norms' by open-filling the sacks.
