Jah Oil says it has enough cement to supply the Gambia
26 February 2019The Gambia: Sherif Faye, the operations manager of Jah Oil, says that the company has enough cement to supply The Gambia. He made the comment at a press event held in response to public outcry over a local cement shortage, according to the Point newspaper. The company has experienced delays to its inbound shipments due to poor weather in Europe. However, he confirmed that two ships carrying cement had recently arrived in the country.
The subsidiary of Jah Group sells its Tiger Cement 42.5 grade brand product in 50kg bags. The cement is imported from Spain and Algeria and bagged locally. Jah Oil has a bagging capacity of 108,000 bags/day.
Cementos Cibao inaugurates new packing plant
27 November 2018Dominican Republic: Cementos Cibao has inaugurated a new packing and despatch plant. The unit has two automated packing lines with a palletising system, according to the Listín Diario newspaper. The site also includes a warehouse that can store 200,000 bags of cement. The cement producer operates an integrated plant.
Germany: Beumer Group has added the option of an ultrasonic sealing unit to its Fillpac R rotary packer filling system. The add-on is intended to improve the appearance of the bags filled with the packing machine. Once bags are filled they are sealed with ultrasound to keep the bags clean and company. This method of sealing also helps ensures that material is not spilled or contaminated during transport by truck.
Oman: Raysut Cement has inaugurated a new packing unit at its Salalah cement plant. The upgrade doubles the plant’s packing capacity. This will allow the cement producer to export an additional 1Mt/yr of bagged cement to markets in Yemen, Somalia and elsewhere in East Africa. The company spent just under US$4m on the project.
Cimburkina starts grinding plant upgrade
05 February 2018Burkina Faso: Cimburkina has started upgrading its Kossodo cement grinding plant. The US$2.85m project will centre on the installation of a new mill. This will double its production capacity to 2Mt/yr, according to the Sidwaya newspaper. Other works will include a new 2000t limestone silo and a new bagging unit. The new mill is scheduled to start production in December 2018.
The plant, a subsidiary of Germany’s HeidelbergCement, produces two types of cement: CEM II 42.5 R and CEM II BL 32.5 R. Clinker for production comes from the group’s Scantogo plant in Togo.
Worker killed at Ambuja Cement’s Maratha plant
30 January 2018India: A contract worker has been killed in an accident at Ambuja Cement’s Maratha plant in Maharashtra. An apparent electrical problem in a wagon loading machine caused the incident that crushed the 32 year old worker, according to the IndustriAll union. The union says that mechanical problems had been reported previously in the plant’s packing unit. LafargeHolcim, the owner of Ambuja Cement, reported 86 fatalities at its sites in 2016.
