Fauji Cement’s sustainability initiatives slash 215,000t of CO2 emissions in 2022 financial year
20 June 2022Pakistan: Fauji Cement says that its sustainability initiatives across its three cement plants reduced CO2 emissions by 215,000t in the 2022 financial year. The Pakistan Today newspaper has reported that clinker factor reduction in reduced-CO2 products such as Askari Green cement and Pamir cement eliminated 89,900t-worth of emissions, 42% of total reductions. Waste heat recovery (WHR) plants eliminated 79,400t of emissions (37%), solar power plants eliminated 31,500t (15%), alternative fuel (AF) substitution eliminated 8030t (3.5%) and reforestation eliminated 600t (2.5%).
Argos Panama joins reforestation programme
02 July 2015Panama: According to Esmerk Latin American News, as part of its sustainability and environmental responsibility programme, Colombia's Cementos Argos, via its local subsidiary Argos Panama, has joined the 'Alianza por el Millon' (Alliance for a Million) project that seeks to reforest 10,000km2 of land in Panama over the next 20 years.
The project is promoted by local nature conservation agency, Asociacion Nacional para la Conservacion de la Naturaleza (Ancon) and is also supported by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), the Ministry of Farming Development (MIDA), the Commerce, Industry and Agriculture Chamber in Panama (CCIAP) and the association of reforesting companies in Panama, Anarap. Argos Panama has pledged to provide around US$100,000 to reforest some 100,000m2 of forest over the next five years. It is estimated that about 200km2/yr of forest is lost in Panama due to de-forestation.
Bamburi Cement to plant trees at Kenya’s coast
30 June 2015Kenya: According to The Star (Kenya), a reforestation drive is targeting the counties of Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale to achieve the internationally-recommended 10% forest cover.
Bamburi Cement has embarked on a campaign that will see 1.5 million trees planted at the coast by May 2016. It has provided 500,000 tree seedlings to each of the three county governments to do so. "We need to create a culture where the re-planting of trees is practised to avoid environmental degradation," said plant manager Peter Gibendi. He added that Kenya's coastal forests, though fragmented and small, are of critical important to the country.
