Schenck Process to rebrand as Qlar
19 April 2024Germany: Schenck Process has announced its rebranding to Qlar effective 13 May 2024, as part of its focus on climate-neutral and circular economy solutions. The company will maintain its expertise in weighing, feeding, conveying, milling, and grinding, whilst serving industries including cement and steel.
CEO Dr Jörg Ulrich said "With the rebranding to Qlar, we are linking ourselves to the circular economy, focusing even more on digitalisation and green transformation."
The rebrand will not affect the Schenck Process Food and Performance Materials division in the US, which remains under Coperion's ownership.
Germany: Schenck Process has appointed Jörg Ulrich as the chief executive officer (CEO) of its Schenck Process EMEA and Asia subsidiary. He succeeds Christoph Haar, who is leaving the company. Ulrich previously held the position of CEO at Linde Hydraulics for more than 10 years. He has also worked in the private equity sector most recently as the Chief Transformation Officer at TK Elevator.
The company’s EMEA and Asia division employs more than 1100 people on four continents and focuses on chemical and high-performance materials as well as infrastructure and energy market segments.
Germany: Schenck Process’ first-quarter sales increased by 21% year-on-year to Euro187m in 2022, led by an ‘outstanding performance’ in its Americas region, according to the company. The company’s adjusted earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for the quarter were Euro20m, up by 9.3% year-on-year. Schenck Process said that it experienced synergy effects from its acquisition of Thailand-based material processing and packaging company SHAPE and agreed to sell its mining business to Sweden-based Sandvik. It said that a Euro598m order book ensures its ‘continued business momentum’ throughout the remaining quarters of 2022.
Chief executive officer Keith Cochrane said “We continued to demonstrate the resilience of our business by delivering another strong performance in the first quarter of 2022. The disposal of our mining business will enable us to advance a more focused strategy for our other core businesses and strengthen our positions as a global solutions provider for the food, chemical and performance materials as well as the infrastructure and energy markets. Despite a difficult global environment, we are looking forward to a period of further growth building on our recent successes.”
Schenck Process to acquire SHAPE
02 August 2021Thailand: Germany-based Schenck Process Group has reached an agreement to acquire Solids Handling and Process Engineering (SHAPE), a supplier of powder handling and powder processing products based in Bangkok. The purchase is intended to strengthen Schenck Process Group’s presence in equipment and food processing markets in Asia Pacific.
Germany: Schenck Process Group has appointed Ulrich Spiesshofer as the chairman of its advisory board with effect from 1 May 2021.
Spiesshofer recently served as chief executive of the group from 2013 to 2019 and has been a member of the executive committee of ABB since 2005. He currently serves on the board of directors of Infineon, Munich, serves as senior advisor to Blackstone and is assuming the chairman role at Sabre Industries, based in Texas, US. Prior to ABB, Spiesshofer was Senior Partner and Global Head of Operations for Roland Berger and served AT Kearney in Europe, Australia, Asia and the US for 11 years most recently as partner and managing director of their Swiss operations. He holds a PhD in Economics and a master’s degree in Business Administration and Engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Germany.
Schenck Process fights coronavirus disruption in 2020
19 March 2021Germany: Schenck Process reported operating sales of Euro592m in 2020, down by 6% year-on-year from Euro632m in 2019. Adjusted group earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell by 11% to Euro91.4m from Euro102m. New orders for the year totalled Euro619m, down by 6% from Euro659m, but rose by under 1% to Euro292m from Euro291m in the Americas region. Demand for aftermarket service also fell, partly due to reduced production output and capacity utilisation in the global cement industry. The supplier said that construction and steel were also ‘hard hit.’ It attributed the decline to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on markets and customer demand. Corrective actions ‘partly mitigated’ the effects of this on income.
The group said that staff reduction have led to lower personnel expenses in the first quarter of the 2021 financial year.
Schenck Process launches CONiQ cloud-based data product
09 March 2021Germany: Schenck Process has launched CONiQ, a cloud-based software product designed to access data from machines. The company said that it builds the foundation for all digital services of Schenck Process, enabling data-driven maintenance and performance optimisation. Users are able to monitor equipment using CONiQ’s integrated knowledge base. The supplier said that the product will open up ‘new functionalities’ for various cement plant equipment. Its first version will focus on vibrating screens and provide dashboards and functions to improve condition monitoring.
Schenck Process signs supply contract with BFM Global
16 October 2020North America: Germany-based Schenck Process has awarded a contract for the supply of “fitting connectors, spigots and bulk bag loaders to one of its North American plants” to original equipment manufacturing (OEM) company BFM Global. It says it will integrate BFM Global products in pneumatic conveying, dust collection, weighing and feeding systems produced at the plant, all of which it sells to the cement industry.
Americas regional president Jay Brown said, “Entering this partnership with BFM Global aligns with our strategy of providing industry recognised parts and system components to our customer base. Working with a company that understands the challenges of bulk material handling strengthens our solutions capabilities. We look forward to what this partnership will bring to Schenck Process and the customers we serve.”
Schenck Process launches CONiQ Control
03 September 2020Germany: Schenck Process has launched CONiQ Control, a control and automation system “with many options for use in industrial measuring, weighing and automation technology in the cement industry,” according to the company. It says that the product “standardises the use of a common controller platform for a wide variety of processes” through a Reddot Intuitive Design Award 2019-winning web-based interface.
Germany: Siemens subsidiary Flender Group, which equips cement plants with mechanical drive systems, has announced the appointment of Andreas Evertz as its chief executive officer (CEO).
Evertz, who has been chief technical officer (CTO) and CEO of Walter and CEO of Schenck Process Group and was Flender Group wind gearbox segment Winergy managing director for 15 years, will assume the new position on 1 June 2020.
Flender Group Supervisory Board chairman Horst Kayser said, “With Andreas Evertz we have found a well-experienced CEO to succeed Stefan Tenbrock. Together with Dr Ulrich Stock as chief financial officer (CFO), he will continue the successful path of Flender.”
