Steppe Cement grows full-year sales in 2022

Kazakhstan: Steppe Cement's full-year sales were US$86.5m during 2022, up by 11% year-on-year from 2021 levels. This came about despite a 1.2% year-on-year drop in its cement volumes. The producer also overcame high inflation, which reached 20% year-on-year in Kazakhstan in December 2022.

Steppe Cement said "We continue our capital expenditure programme to increase our production capacity of clinker and cement by mid-2023, as well as to reduce power and coal consumption."

Steppe Cement increases nine-month sales

Kazakhstan: Steppe Cement's sales were US$68.7m during the first nine months of 2022, up by 13% year-on-year from US$60.6m in the corresponding period in 2021. Its cement sales volumes were 1.36Mt, down by 1% year-on-year from 1.38Mt.

Kazakhstan's cement demand grew by 2% year-on-year to 9.4Mt in the first nine months of 2022. Steppe Cement expects the Kazakh cement market to grow by 2% year-on-year to 11.8Mt throughout 2022. Steppe Cement holds a 15% market share.

Consilium Investment Management abandons Steppe Cement stake

Kazakhstan: Steppe Cement has received notification from Consilium Investment Management that funds under its management have ‘collectively ceased as a significant shareholder’ in the producer.

Consilium Investment Management previously represented a 5% stake in Steppe Cement’s shareholding.

Steppe Cement increases sales in first half of 2022

Kazakhstan: Steppe Cement's first-half sales were US$41.4m in 2022, up by 18% year-on-year from first-half 2021 levels. Sales volumes were 837,000t, down by 0.4% year-on-year from 841,000t.

Steppe Cement posts strong results alongside future uncertainty

Kazakhstan: Steppe Cement recorded rising revenues in the first quarter of 2022 due to stronger cement volumes and higher prices during the period. The manufacturer posted sales revenue of US$14m in the three months to 31 March 2022, up by 29.6% year-on-year from US$10.8m in the first quarter of 2021.

Sales volumes rose by 6% to 281,968t from 266,007t, while average prices for delivered cement also climbed. Exports from Kazakhstan fell by 50% as new factories opened in Uzbekistan. Imports into Kazakhstan, predominantly from Russia, increased from 6.5% to 8% of the market.

Steppe Cement estimates that Kazakhstan's cement market demand will stay at 11 - 12Mt in 2022 but added that there was is a high degree of uncertainty due to the ‘geopolitical situation’ in the region.

Steppe Cement increases its cement sales in 2021

Kazakhstan: Steppe Cement sold US$83.4m-worth of cement in 2021, up by 16% year-on-year from its US$71.7m-worth in 2020. Its sales volumes totalled 1.69Mt for the year, up by 2.4% from 1.65Mt in 2020. It exported 202,000t of cement, down by 57% from 86,500t. The company said that production limitations prevented it from fully meeting demand, and it concentrated on local markets. Regarding its outlook in 2022, Steppe Cement said “We have a healthy cash balance and are continuing our capital expenditure (CAPEX) programme to increase the production capacity of the company by 5% by mid-2022.”

Dow Jones Newswires has reported that Kazakhstan’s 2021 full-year cement consumption was 11.6Mt, up by 23% year-on-year from 9.4Mt in 2020. A rule change to pension withdrawals permitting allocations for home improvement and construction bolstered demand growth. Exports fell by 20% to 1.6Mt from 2Mt, while imports rose by 33% to 800,000t from 600,000t.

Steppe Cement increases sales in first nine months of 2021

Kazakhstan: Steppe Cement's revenues in the nine-month period which ended on 30 September 2021 were US$67.6m, up by 8% year-on-year from US$62.6m in the corresponding period of 2020. Sales volumes rose by 4% to 1.38Mt from 1.33Mt.

Kazakhstan Newsline has reported that projected full-year Kazakh cement demand rose by 24% in the period to 11.3Mt, of which Steppe Cement controls a 14% share. The share of imports remained level at 7%. Nine-month cement exports were 1.4Mt nationally.

Steppe Cement increases first-half cement sales in 2021

Kazakhstan: Steppe Cement sold 841,000t of cement in the first half of 2021, up by 10% year-on-year from 765,000t in the first half of 2020. Revenues in the period were US$38.8m, up by 22% to from US$31.9m. Average cement delivery prices increased by 11% in the reporting period.

Steppe Cement increases first-quarter cement sales and volumes in 2021

Kazakhstan: Steppe Cement’s cement sales in the first quarter of 2021 were US$11.3m, up by 22% year-on-year from US$9.27m in the first quarter of 2020. Volumes increased by 13% to 266,000t from 236,000t. The company said that it remained close to full capacity utilisation. It says that it increased its Kazakh cement market share to over 13%. The market grew by 12% year-on-year in total. The producer reported an 11% price rise and constant levels of tariffs and rental expenses.

Steppe Cement forecast an increase in domestic cement demand due to government infrastructure and housing projects.

Steppe Cement updates on full-year 2020 performance

11 January 2021

Kazakhstan: Steppe Cement increased its full-year sales by 1% year-on-year to US$73m in 2020 from US$72m in 2019. Its cement sales fell by 4% to 1.6Mt from 1.7Mt, and its exports rose by 30% to 0.2Mt. Domestic demand rose by 6% to 9.4Mt from 8.9Mt. Steppe Cement’s market share fell to 15%.

Kazakhstan’s overall cement exports rose by 25% in 2020 to 2.0Mt from 1.6Mt. Imports fell by 14% to 0.6Mt from 0.7Mt.
