UltraTech Cement secures US$500m sustainability-linked loan
27 August 2024India: UltraTech Cement has obtained a $500m sustainability-linked loan from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, State Bank of India, BNP Paribas and other lenders. Capital Market News has reported that the conditions for the loan align with UltraTech's 2050 Net-Zero Roadmap. Under the roadmap, the subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group aims to reduce its Scope 1 CO2 emissions per tonne of cementitious material by 27% between 2017 and 2032, and to raise its reliance on renewables to 85% of its energy consumption by 2030.
UltraTech Cement previously issued sustainability-linked bonds in 2021.
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation provides credit facility for UltraTech Cement Middle East Investments
05 January 2024UAE: India-based UltraTech Cement has issued a guarantee of US$147m in favour of the Singapore branch of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. Reuters has reported that the guarantee is for a credit facility in favour of the producer’s UAE subsidiary UltraTech Cement Middle East Investments.
UltraTech Cement Middle East Investments obtained a majority stake in Duqm Cement in Oman in 2023.
Adani Group refinances loan for Holcim India acquisition
13 October 2023India: Adani Group has entered into a US$3.7bn refinance agreement with multiple banks to refinance the loan it took to acquire Holcim’s Indian business. Live Mint News has reported that the consortium of banks includes Deutsche Bank, Standard Chartered, Barclays, Citibank, MUFG Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. Sources ‘with direct knowledge of the matter’ reported that the refinance agreement will have a tenure of 36 months.
Argos North America takes out US$300m loan linked to gender quality and CO2 emission performance
17 August 2021Colombia: Argos North America has taken out a US$300m loan where the interest rate is linked to CO2 emission reduction indicators and the increase in the percentage of women in leadership positions. It will be used to prepay an existing syndicated loan. The loan has been taken out from BNP Paribas Securities, Natixis, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and the Bank of Nova Scotia. This loan is the first linked to environmental, social and corporate governance performance that Argos has signed with international banks.
