India: Wonder Cement has launched the third production line at its Nimbahera plant at Chittorgarh in Rajasthan. The new 2Mt/yr integrated line had an investment of US$159m, according to the Hindu newspaper. The unit at Nimbahera now has a total production capacity of 9Mt/yr and the company also operates a 2Mt/yr cement grinding plant at Dhule in Maharashtra.
Sanjay Joshi, the executive director of Wonder Cement, said that he expected domestic cement demand to grow by 8% year-on-year in the 2019 – 2020 financial year. He added that, although the market was crowed, he thought that a new company could stand out if it delivered quality products.
Blackstone Group and Temasek Holdings in competition for minority stake in Wonder Cement
01 November 2018India: Private equity companies Blackstone Group and Temasek Holdings are holding separate negotiations to buy up to a 20% stake in Wonder Cement for around US$136m. The investment is expected to allow the cement producer to expand its production capacity to 11Mt/yr from 6.75Mt/yr at present, according to the Economic Times newspaper. Wonder Cement, part of the Rajasthan-headquartered RK Group, announced in August 2018 that it was preparing to set up a 2Mt/yr clinker grinding unit in Dhule, Maharashtra.
Wonder Cement plant launched in Maharashtra
20 August 2018India: Wonder Cement, a part of the Rajasthan-headquartered RK Group, has announced that it will set up a 2Mt/yr clinker grinding unit in Dhule, Maharashtra at a cost of US$64.7m. The plan marks the company’s first foray into the state. This is in addition to the earlier-announced plan to invest US$359m by the end of the 2020 financial year.
“The Dhule plant will distribute cement mainly across Maharashtra, while a minimal quantity will be supplied to Madhya Pradesh,” said Managing Director JC Toshniwal, who added that the company is also in the process of developing a railway siding for the unit.
Following the commencement of the Dhule facility, Wonder Cement’s production capacity will increase to 8.75Mt/yr from the present 6.75Mt/yr. The clinker required for the unit will be supplied from Nimbahera plant in Rajasthan. Gypsum, another raw material used for manufacturing cement, will be procured from Gujarat and fly ash from a nearby thermal power plant.
In addition to the plants in Nimbahera and Dhule, Wonder Cement is in the process of setting up a third clinker facility of about 2.5Mt/yr in Nimbahera, Rajasthan. “The civil works for the third clinker unit is in full swing,,” confirmed Toshniwal. “We will commission it by mid-2019. This will help to increase our cement production capacity to 11Mt/yr.”
Under its expansion plans, the company will look at setting up two more clinker units. One will be in Madhya Pradesh, but the location for the other is yet to be finalised.
Wonder Cement orders two mills from Gebr. Pfeiffer
11 April 2018India: Wonder Cement has ordered two vertical mills from Germany’s Gebr. Pfeiffer for its Nardana plant in Rajasthan. The order includes a MVR 6000 C-6 mill for grinding slag cement and a MPS 3070 BK mill for grinding fuel. Delivery is scheduled for early 2019 and mid-2019 respectively.
The MVR mill will feature a total drive power of 5820kW. Mixed cements will be be ground to a fineness of up to 5% R 45µm. The grinding plant will be designed to process granulated blast-furnace slag with a target fineness of approximately 4500 cm²/g Blaine and blast-furnace cements with different proportions of granulated blast-furnace slag, fly ash and gypsum and different product fineness degree. Wonder Cement has requested the option to grind relatively hot clinker in the mill while at the same time being able to reduce the cement temperature, and alternatively to use cold clinker from stockpiles.
The core components such as the tension system and the grinding rollers will come from Gebr. Pfeiffer in Germany. The grinding bowl and the gearboxes for the mill and classifier will also be delivered from Europe. Gebr. Pfeiffer’s subsidiary, Gebr. Pfeiffer India, will provide the housing parts, the foundation parts and supports of the rollers as well as almost the entire high-efficiency classifier type SLS 5600 BC. Gebr. Pfeiffer India scope of supply will incorporate most of the equipment to complete the grinding plant including the plant fan.
The MPS mill will grind petcoke with a capacity of 40t/hr to a product fineness of 2% R 90µm. It will come with a SLS BK classifier, allowing both coal and petcoke to be ground in the mill, dried with process gases and then classified in the integrated classifier. Due to the high abrasiveness of Indian coal, the mill will be designed with appropriate wear protection.
Most components of the coal mill will be supplied by Gebr. Pfeiffer India. The housing and foundation parts, the grinding bowl and a large part of the power-transmitting parts will be manufactured in India. Setting up the new MPS mill is planned to coincide with the commissioning of the entire kin line.
Gebr. Pfeiffer reveals mill orders in India and Pakistan
04 April 2017India/Pakistan: Gebr. Pfeiffer has released information about orders for its mills for projects in India and Pakistan. In India Wonder Cement has ordered a MVR 6000 C-6 vertical roller mill from the company for its Nimbahera cement plant in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The mill will have a 5820kW drive and it will grind cement to a fineness of 4500 cm²/g according to Blaine. The mill can also be used to grind blended cement using slag, fly ash and gypsum.
Core components of the mill, including the rollers, will be supplied from Europe. The mill foundation parts, the housing and the integrated SLS 5600 BC classifier will be provided by Gebr. Pfeiffer India. Delivery of the mill is scheduled by the end of 2017.
In Pakistan Cherat Cement have ordered a MVR 6300 C-6 mill from Gebr. Pfeiffer for its cement plant in Cherat. The mill will grind 365t/hr of Ordinary Portland Cement to a fineness of 3200cm2/g according to Blaine. The MultiDrive will have a total output of 7800kW. Delivery is scheuled for 2018.

Wonder Cement appoint Sailesh Mohta as president of marketing
05 October 2016India: The board of directors of Wonder Cement, a part of the RK Group, has appointed Sailesh Mohta as President (Marketing). Mohta will report into JC Toshniwal, Managing Director, according to Asian News International. Mohta will oversee strategic business partnerships and develop tactical policies aimed at augmenting the national presence of the brand, identifying potential markets, implementing a conducive growth stratagem and generating a significant share of voice in the marketplace.
Since 2010, Mohta has served as the president of Binani Cement. He holds a bachelor's degree in commerce from the University Of Mumbai and a chartered accountancy degree from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is also a member of Multi Commodity Exchange of India and National Spot Exchange.
India: Wonder Cement has appointment of Jagdish Chandra Toshniwal as its managing director. Toshniwal takes over from DP Somani who was with the company for over seven years.
Toshniwal originally studied at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani. He started his career with Udaipur Cement in 1975 before spending nearly 18 years working for Ambuja Cement. Toshniwal joined Wonder Cement in 2015 as an executive director.
India: According to the Press Trust of India, Wonder Cement, part of RK Marble Group, plans to invest US$500m to increase its cement production capacity to 10Mt/yr in the next five years from the current 3.25Mt/yr.
"We have 3.25Mt/yr of cement manufacturing capacity at our Bhatkotri village plant in Rajasthan and have invested US$250m to double the current capacity to about 7Mt/yr by setting up a second production line. It is likely to be complete by the end of 2015," said Wonder Cement's executive director Jagdish Chandra Toshniwal.
Toshniwal added that Wonder Cement plans to further expand the current capacity to 10Mt/yr by setting up a third production line at a cost of US$250m in the next five years. The project will be funded through an internal accrual of US$47m, promoters' contribution of US$78m and debt of around US$376m.
Currently, the plant is running at full capacity and sells 1.8m bags/day to the northern states, with 50% of its volume sold in Rajasthan. Toshniwal said that Wonder Cement is also expanding its base in north Gujarat and western parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
"The cement industry is evolving rapidly. We prepare for the next phase of the company's growth. We are focusing our efforts on increasing our market share by creating a clearly distinctive positioning in the market place," said Toshniwal. Some of the recent government initiatives such as development of 100 smart cities, housing for all by 2022 and post-monsoon commencement of several infrastructure projects are expected to provide a major boost to the sector, Toshniwal added.
Wonder Cement to double production

The company will increase the capacity of its cement plant in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan from 3.25Mt/yr to 6.75Mt/yr by investing US$256m in the project. The plant, which currently runs at full capacity, sells 180,000bags/day of cement.
India: Wonder Cement has appointment of Jagdish Chandra Toshniwal as Executive Director. Prior to joining Wonder Cement, Toshniwal spent 18 years with Ambuja Cement and was the Business Head of the Northern Region based in Delhi. An engineer by training, Toshniwal has strong operational and commercial skills.
Wonder Cement is planning to double its manufacturing capacity to 6.75Mt/yr by the fourth quarter of 2015. The company has said it will invest US$259m towards this. Wonder Cement is also in the process of increasing its dealer network. The company has significantly increased its brand spend.
The company's 3.25Mt/yr cement plant is located in RK Nagar, Tehsil-Nimbahera, District Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. A waste heat recovery system is currently being installed and the company is planning to build its own railway line and a captive power plant.
