Petron Engineering to build silos for Shree grinding plant

India: Petron Engineering Construction has received a letter of intent to build silos and other miscellaneous work at Shree Cement’s cement grinding plant near Cuttack in Orissa. The contract is valued at just under US$5m, according to Accord Fintech. In September 2016 Petron received letter of intent from Shree Cement for civil work at cement plants in Aurangabad, Bihar and Gulbarga, Karnataka with a contract value of just under US$7.5m.

McInnis Cement to use Gaspesian Rail for distribution of cement

Canada: McInnis Cement has signed an agreement with the Gaspé railway corporation (SCFG) to distribute cement from New Richmond, Quebec to various Canadian and US markets. The agreement covers the transportation of 140,000t of cement over a five-year period.

“The use of rail combined with the efficiency of maritime transport provides McInnis the flexibility and competitiveness needed for the distribution of cement that will be produced by the company commencing in the Spring of 2017,” said McInnis Cement chief executive officer, Hervé Mallet. He added that the company might increase its volumes when conditions permit.

The cement will be loaded onto trucks at the plant site in Port-Daniel–Gascons, transported to New Richmond, and then trans-shipped onto tenders through a weight bin to be installed by SCFG. The first shipments are expected to start a few weeks after the plant becomes operational.

China Resources Cement enters into strategic agreement with BBMG

20 December 2016

China: China Resources Cement and BBMG Corporation have entered into a strategic co-operation agreement. According to the agreement the companies shall jointly explore Chinese and overseas markets and promote technology for the industry. Both parties intend to create a 'market communications mechanism' to share information on the market, production and technology. China Resources Cement previously signed a similar agreement with Anhui Conch in July 2016, although that agreement subsequently fell apart.

Portland Cement Association and Mine Safety and Health Administration renew safety and health agreement

22 September 2016

US: The Portland Cement Association (PCA) and the US Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has renewed for three years an on-going alliance aimed at fostering safer and more healthierl working conditions in the cement industry. Started in 2008, the agreement has enabled the PCA and the MSHA to share information, guidance and training resources to help protect the health and safety of all cement industry employees.

“Over the past seven years, this alliance has facilitated a productive collaboration between the cement industry and the regulatory agency, which has resulted in measurable safety and health benefits to cement industry employees,” said PCA President and CEO James G Toscas.

Tokyo Cement agrees support and import deal with Ube Industries

Sri Lanka: Tokyo Cement Group entered into a collaboration agreement with Ube Industries from 1 August 2016 for technical support services and to import raw materials from Japan, to manufacture ‘high quality’ cement.

CNBM may buy shares in Russia’s Eurocement Group

27 June 2016

Russia: China National Building Materials Group Corporation (CNBM) plans to become a shareholder of Eurocement Group. The companies signed an agreement on cooperation in production of construction materials in China on 25 June 2016 in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping.

The companies have agreed to upgrade Eurocement’s cement plants and construct new production lines for dry process production of cement. The agreement also envisages establishing clusters for production of construction materials in seven Russian federal districts at the basis of the local company. Local media reports that CNBM will invest US$5bn in the project.

Anhui Conch and China Resources Cement enter into strategic agreement

China: Anhui Conch and China Resources Cement have entered into a strategic co-operation agreement. According to the agreement Anhui Conch shall assist the China Resources Cement in the construction and the upgrade of its cement plants. Both parties intend to build a knowledge transfer system to allow their experience in production, technology and business management to be shared. They also have agreed to jointly promote the sustainable and healthy development of the cement industry in China and explore the possibilities of co-operation in China and overseas.

Magnesita and ACIS announce agreement to target Chinese equipment suppliers

01 July 2015

Brazil: Magnesita Refratários has announced an agreement with ACIS, a cement maintenance and operations service company based in China and Saudi Arabia, to extend its services offering Magnesita's refractory products supporting greenfield projects around the world. ACIS and Magnesita will target Chinese cement original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), which are building projects in countries primarily outside of China. The cooperation started on 1 July 2015 and shall continue for three years, with a possible extension.

"Partnering with ACIS which is recognised within the cement industry for its technical and service capability, is an important step for Magnesita's continued growth within the industrial market. This alliance with ACIS will help clients control costs utilising Magnesita's high-quality refractory products as new cement plants are commissioned," said Magnesita CEO, Octavio Lopes.

ACIS will create a commercial team in China tp focus on clients and the development of new projects while Magnesita's technical assistance team will work closely with ACIS to provide application and engineering support.
