Betolar appoints Riku Kytömäki as president and CEO

02 November 2022

Finland: Geoprime producer Betolar has named Riku Kytömäki as its new president and CEO. Riku's professional background is in materials technology, having served as president and CEO of Exel Composites and held senior positions in Switzerland-based ABB. Kytömäki holds board positions in several international companies and organisations, including polymers producer Teknikum Group. He has management experience in Asian markets where Betolar has expanded during the past few years.

Betolar said "Riku will lead Betolar through its next growth phase as its Geoprime solution is entering active production. Geoprime is a next-generation, low-carbon solution and sustainable alternative to cement: it delivers 80% fewer emissions and 100% cement-free building materials with the same performance as traditional concrete."

Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies’ clinkerless cement secures Scientific and Technical Center for Building certification

24 March 2022

France: The Scientific and Technical Center for Building (CSTB) has certified Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies’ clinkerless H-UKR alkali-activated slag cement for structural use in buildings of all types. BusinessWire News has reported that the certification confirms the product’s safety, sustainability, lifespan and performance in conformity with Eurocode 2 and Eurocode 8 design standards.

Co-founders Julien Blanchard and David Hoffmann said “In the midst of ongoing frenetic communication regarding carbon neutrality, Hoffmann Green Cement is as usual endeavouring to back its announcements with verified and evaluated elements. The granting of these evaluations further objectifies the quality of our cement, notably with the awarding of a lifespan of 100 years. In this regard, we would like to thank the CSTB’s teams for drafting this unprecedented technical appraisal and our own teams who are working tirelessly on seeking innovative decarbonised solutions to preserve tomorrow’s world.”

New BSI standard benefit on alkali-activated cements benefits Lucideon

09 May 2016

UK: Lucideon has benefited from a newly published standard by the British Standards Institution (BSI) for alkali-activated cementitious material and concrete. The materials technology company has been developing and applying its proprietary MIDAR technology based on alkali-activated cements for several years. A recognised building standard gives it a stronger route to market in Europe.

“With the help of our materials experts, manufacturers can develop products using alkali-activated cement technology. This could potentially improve the performance and reduce the raw material costs and carbon footprints of products,” said Rebecca Law, a development scientist at Lucideon.

Lucideon develops materials technologies for a range of industries including construction, healthcare and nuclear sectors. MIDAR is a technology that binds alkalis and aluminosilicate materials, such as those from waste streams including fly ash and blast furnace slags, to form a rigid inorganic material. This technology can be used to make solid or aerated building products.
