Nuh Çimento receives installation of electric Liebherr crane at Hereke port

Türkiye: Nuh Çimento has installed a new electric LPS 420 portal slewing crane from Liebherr at its private port in Hereke to boost efficiency and reduce emissions. The crane has a 124t lifting capacity and can handle up to 1500t/hr. The company said that the crane is designed for high-throughput handling of abrasive materials such as clinker and cement.

Nuh Çimento’s port handles 5Mt/yr of dry bulk cargo and serves over 40 export markets. The 595m berth supports vessels up to 80,000dwt and features a 300m underground conveyor tunnel and automated loading systems.

Yuantai Crane Machinery delivers overhead crane to Yemen cement plant

Yemen: China-based Yuantai Crane Machinery has delivered and installed a 5t LH series overhead crane with electric hoist trolley to a cement mixing facility in Sana’a, replacing manual chain hoists and forklifts, according to Hoist Magazine.

The plant required a compact crane capable of handling 1t-5t cement bags, mixer covers and maintenance parts. The new crane is capable of lifting up to 5t at 8m/min with 20m/min trolley travel, and operates between 20°C and 40°C. It also meets ISO A4 duty standards. The crane was installed in two days, reducing lift cycle times from 120s to 65s and increasing the plant’s daily handling capacity by 30%.

Hanson UK replaces section of kiln at Ribblesdale cement plant

27 July 2023

UK: Heidelberg Materials subsidiary Hanson UK successfully replaced a 130t section of the kiln at its 1Mt/yr Ribblesdale cement plant in Lancashire earlier in 2023. The section was 22m long, 4.6m in diameter and ran at a 4° angle. Contractor Ainscough Crane Hire used its heaviest, 800t lattice boom crane, and brought the project from acceptance to completion in 18 months. Engineering firm Grayton was Hanson's service partner for the upgrade.

Worker dies at Holcim Argentina’s Malagueño cement plant

16 June 2022

Argentina: A man has died in a concrete silo collapse at Holcim Argentina’s Malagueño cement plant in Córdoba Province. Pedro Rivero, 67, had been working on the site at 11am on 15 June 2022 when the disaster occurred. Local press has reported that the collapsing silo crushed the crane which Rivero had been operating.

An investigation by the Argentinian Judicial Police into the causes of the event is currently underway.
