Saoura Ciment launches sulphate-resistant cement production
17 September 2021Algeria: Saoura Ciment has begun sulphate-resistant cement production at its Saoura cement plant near Béchar. The Groupe des Ciments d'Algérie (GICA) subsidiary made the move as part of efforts to diversify its production. It plans to supply the product to public works projects in the region, where its resistance to high soil salinity will prove useful. The cement will be available from all four of the plant’s commercial outlets in and around Bechér.
In August 2021, Saoura Ciment produced 180,000t of cement. It exported 25,000t to Mali, Mauritania and Niger during the month.
Russia: Gornozavodskcement has announced that its Akkermann brand cement conforms to the standard for sulphate-resistant CEM-I cement. The Siberian Research Institute of the Cement Industry issued the certificate of conformity to the cement, which contains a ‘unique formulation’ of 100% ordinary Portland cement with special sulphate resistance.
Gornozavodskcement quality director Irina Ilyina said, “The production of this special cement in Perm Territory, where several large transport and industrial facilities are under construction, will significantly reduce transport and procurement costs for builders, as well as improving the quality and durability of products.”
Russia: Eurocement subsidiary Lipetskcement has announced that its CEM-II sulphate-resistant cement has been found to conform to the new Russian standard for its class of products. This enables its use in special types of construction, including hydraulic engineering, land reclamation, transport infrastructure and oil and gas wells.
Turkmenistan: A cement plant in Balkan province has started producing sulphate-resistant cement. A first batch of 7000t of the product has been manufactured, according to the Trend News Agency and local media. The Institute of Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan worked on the project with specialists from the Ministry of Industry and Turkmengeologiya State Corporation.
Holcim España invested over Euro2m in Jerez cement plant in 2017
25 January 2018Spain: LafargeHolcim’s subsidiary Holcim España invested over Euro2m in its cement plant at Jerez during 2017. The work included environmental improvements, changes to the despatch areas and health and safety upgrades such as fire detection systems in its fuels storage zones. The plant also introduced a sulphate-resistant cement product (CEM IV/A (V) 42,5 R/SR) in May 2017 targeted for marine applications.
India Cements promotes sulphate-resistant cement
31 May 2016India: The India Cements Limited (ICL) has started promoting a new sulphate-resistant cement. The new product, Coromandel SRC, is a specialty-blended cement targeted for construction in aggressive environment such as a coastal areas. It will be manufactured at its Vishnupuram Plant in Telangana, according to the Hindu newspaper.
The new product is part of a business drive by the cement producer to improve its relationship with the distribution network. Other initiatives include extending technical support to its stockists and dealers in marketing new products. The company is also promoting Coromandel Duralite Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks which are made from cement, fly ash, lime and alumina, an aeration agent.
Egypt: Misr Beni Suef Cement has started to produce sulphate resistant cement for use in tunnels and other special projects. The cement producer is aiming to boost sales by selling 200,000t of this new product in 2016, in addition to sales of ordinary Portland cement.
