Cemex Dominicana partners with Nestlé Dominicana for alternative fuel co-processing
06 December 2022Dominican Republic: Cemex Dominicana has announced the signing of a new sustainability agreement with food producer Nestlé Dominicana. Under the agreement, Cemex Dominicana will co-process Nestlé Dominicana's non-recyclable high-calorific solid industrial waste as alternative fuel (AF) in its cement plant.
Cemex's Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Haiti regional director José Antonio Cabrera said "This agreement with Nestlé allows us to continue promoting our Future in Action strategy by operating our cement plant with AF." He concluded "We are committed to becoming a net-zero CO2 company."
Cemex Dominicana to recommission production line
09 March 2021Dominican Republic: Cemex Dominicana plans to recommission line 1 at its 2Mt/yr integrated San Pedro de Macorís plant. The move is expected to increase its existing clinker production capacity by more than 0.5Mt/yr. The reactivation is scheduled for the last quarter of 2021. It is part of Cemex Dominicana's growth plan, seeking to strengthen its capacity to response to both local market demand and the export market.
"At Cemex Dominicana, we reiterate our commitment to the sustainable development of the Dominican Republic, in the context of boosting the national economy, aiming with these investment plans to reduce the need for imports, promote local industry, and contribute to the generation of employment in the country," said José Antonio Cabrera, Director of Cemex Dominicana.
José Antonio Cabrera appointed president of Cemex Dominicana
30 January 2019Dominican Republic: Cemex has appointed José Antonio Cabrera as the president of Cemex Dominicana. He succeeds Alejandro Ramírez, who has been named president of Cemex Colombia, according to the El Nuevo Dia newspaper. The business has operations in the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Puerto Rico.
Cabrera previously served as Vice President of Strategic Planning at Cemex Egypt, as well as Vice President of Strategic Planning for Cemex's Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) region. He first joined Cemex in 2000 and has held positions including Commercial and Operations Director of Cemex Spain and Project Manager of Strategic Planning for Cemex Spain and the Mediterranean region.
Cemex Dominicana inaugurates packing plant
07 April 2017Dominican Republic: Cemex Dominicana, the local subsidiary of Mexico’s Cemex, has inaugurated a packing plant at its cement plant in San Pedro de Macorís. Danilo Medina Sánchez , the president of the country, attended the event. The US$8.5m unit will allow the plant to increases its cement packing capacity by 1.5m bags/yr or 0.8Mt/yr. Other improvements include a new building to house the packing line, a 1275m2 warehouse for palletised cement and a new weighting system to speed up despatch. Carlos Emilio González, the president of Cemex Dominicana, also announced an investment of US$40m over the next two years in power generation, changes to the mill and other upgrades at the plant.
