Honduras: Colombia’s Ultracem plans to build a new cement grinding plant in Cortés, Honduras. At present the company has invested US$2m in the country and it employs 60 people, according to La Prensa newspaper. The new production plant will create another 100 jobs. The cement producer currently operates a grinding plant at Barranquilla in Colombia.
Bulgaria/Panama: Germany’s Venti Oelde has increased its sales presence in Europe and Central America. Its has appointed a new sales representative in Bulgaria, as well as one in Panama to cover countries including Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. The company manufactures industrial products including fans and filters.
Central America: The value of Chinese imports of cement grew by 2% year-on-year to US$77.1m in the first half of 2018 from US$75.6m in the same period in 2017. Nicaragua imported around US$28m, Guatemala US$18m, El Salvador US$12m, Honduras US$7m, Panama US$6m and Costa Rica imported around US$5m, according to CentralAmericaData.
Honduran producers agree to price cut
23 November 2018Honduras: Cementos Argos and Cementos del Norte have agreed to cut the price of cement for government-backed reisdential and infrastructure projects following a request by President Juan Orlando Hernández, according to the El Heraldo newspaper. The price will fall by around 15% when the agreements between the cement producers and the government is finalised.
Honduran president asks for cement discount for government projects
07 November 2018Honduras: President Juan Orlando Hernández has asked local cement producers to offer cement at a discount for use in government projects. The government and the two main producers have formed a commission to determine how to implement the request, according to La Tribuna newspaper. However, Juan Carlos Sikaffy, the head of the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (COHEP), descirbed the issue as ‘delicate’ given the taxes the cement companies pay and the jobs they create.
Honduras: Cementos del Norte has spent US$29m on upgrades for its Rio Bijao cement plant in Choloma. The project includes increasing the unit’s capacity for production, storage capacity and alternative fuels, according to the La Prensa newspaper. The cement producer is installing a new cement grinding mill at the site. This will enable it to raise its cement prouction capacity to 2.5Mt/yr from 1.5Mt/yr.
Cementos Argos orders two modular grinding plants from Cemengal
21 February 2018Honduras: Cementos Argos has ordered two Plug&Grind XL modular grinding units for a project in Honduras. Each mill has a production capacity of 220,000t/yr. The ball mills are 3.0 x 9.5m and they have a power of 1100kW. They also include 50,000m3/hr bag filters and classifiers. The scope of supply includes new cement storage silos for finished product, packing and dispatching equipment. The cement producer announced in early February 2018 that it was planning to spend US$20m on building a new cement grinding plant at Choloma.
Cementos Argos makes inroads in Honduras
07 February 2018Honduras: Colombian cement manufacturer Cementos Argos has reported a positive performance in Honduras. The company, which entered the domestic market in 2013, sold over 1.1Mt of cement in the local market in 2017, a record figure that was 15% more than the 0.95Mt that it sold in 2016.
Cementos Argos to build grinding plant in Honduras
02 February 2018Honduras: Cementos Argos plans to spend US$20m on building a new cement grinding plant at Choloma. The unit will have a production capacity of 0.44Mt/yr. It will join the cement producer’s integrated plant in Comayagua and another grinding plant in San Lorenzo. The new grinding plant, loacted in the north of the country, is intended to integrate into Cementos Argos’ logistics network in the wider region. It will create 200 jobs.
Fives wins dryer contract with Cementos del Norte
13 June 2017Honduras: France’s Fives has won a contract to supply a FCB Flash dryer for Cementos del Norte’s Bijao plant. The dryer will be installed on an existing ball mill that was supplied and installed by Fives FCB in 2001 for a production capacity of 90t/hr of pozzolanic cement. Since then the pozzolana content and moisture rate have increased. Once operational the grinding plant drying capacity will rise.
