Bruks Siwertell receives order for mobile ship loader
27 December 2024Sweden: Bruks Siwertell has received an order for a 10 000 S mobile ship unloader for an undisclosed client. The customer owner will use the unloader as part of a rental ship unloading service, operating across multiple port locations. The order is scheduled for commissioning in spring 2025. It will be delivered fully assembled ready for operation. Jörgen Ojeda, Sales Director, Mobile Unloaders, Bruks Siwertell added that the client had previously used an Siwertell 15 000 S mobile ship unloader for nearly two decades.
Zanini Renk receives repeat order from St. Marys Cement for upgrades to Michigan plant
29 November 2024US: Zanini Renk has received a repeat order from St. Marys Cement for four additional gearboxes at its Charlevoix, Michigan plant. In 2016, St. Marys Cement's Charlevoix plant began a US$130m upgrade to expand the plant's infrastructure. The project scope included adding a new finish mill, an additional kiln and a new coal grinding system. The 2016 upgrade at St. Marys Cement expanded the Charlevoix plant’s cement capacity from 1.4Mt/yr to 2Mt/yr.
The initial order for a Zanini Renk gearbox was for installation in its vertical roller mill. Zanini Renk completed the gearbox installation in 2022. The first new gearbox has been in operation since January 2023 and the other two new gearboxes will be delivered at the end of November 2024. Installation is expected to be completed by March 2025 and by April 2025.
FLSmidth receives order for grinding technology in India
28 November 2024India: FLSmidth has won an order for the delivery of its core grinding technology. The order includes two high pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) (3m diameter × 2m width), installation, commissioning, start-up support and a service agreement. The equipment is expected to be installed and commissioned during 2026. With this new order in India, FLSmidth has won a total of 15 HPGR orders or commitments in 2024. The value of the order has not been disclosed.
Taiwan: Taiwan Cement Corporation (TCC) and 100 construction firms have together launched the Low Carbon Construction Pioneer Alliance. CNA News has reported that the founding members eliminated 146,000t of CO₂ emissions altogether through their use of reduced-CO2 building materials since November 2024. This includes despatches of 800,000m3 of Portland limestone cement (PLC) concrete by TCC, with 2.5Mm3 in cumulative orders to date. TCC first launched its PLC in October 2023, touting an emissions reduction of 15% compared to ordinary Portland cement (OPC). It since enlarged the net reduction to 24% through production modifications.
Taiwan Cement chair Zhang Anping said "TCC took the initiative to align with the Global Cement and Concrete Association and released the lowest-carbon PLC concrete in Taiwan. The CO2 reduction is far greater than the 53% as defined by the government.”
India: Orient Cement has won an order from Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Co to install a clinker grinding unit at Satpura Thermal Power Station, Sarni. The ‘work order’ was issued by the company to install the grinding unit, along with a 25-year fly ash supply contract. Earlier in August 2024, Orient Cement said that it anticipates a robust demand recovery in the second half of the financial year post-monsoon.
Southern Province Cement Company orders new analysers for Jazan plant
23 September 2024Saudi Arabia: Southern Province Cement Company has ordered a crossbelt analyser for stockpile optimisation and an airslide analyser for raw mill control from SpectraFlow for its new Line 3 project at the Jazan cement plant. The new line will have a capacity of 5000t/day of clinker.
Menzel Elektromotoren supplies new motor to Algerian cement plant
05 September 2024Algeria: Germany-based motor manufacturer Menzel Elektromotoren supplied a fan motor for an Algerian cement plant. According to the company, the replacement was for a failed slip ring motor, and was manufactured and delivered within 13 weeks. The motor was a MEBSSL-type 6-pole slip ring motor in frame size 630, with a rated output of 1950kW, an operating voltage of 11,000V and a rated torque of 18,754Nm.
Canada: Finland-based Wärtsilä will provide a hybrid-electric propulsion system for an 11,000t-capacity limestone carrier, commissioned by CSL Group with China-based CCCC Shanghai Equipment Engineering and Jingjiang Nanyang Shipbuilding. The order supports CSL Group’s decarbonisation strategy by optimising engine and battery load and reducing fuel consumption.
The vessel is scheduled for delivery to CSL Group in 2026 and will initially operate on a hybrid diesel and battery system, transitioning to full electric power by 2031 to reduce carbon emissions by 90%, according to CSL Group. Wärtsilä will supply the whole hybrid electric propulsion system, including generators, DC hub, energy management system, main propulsion e-motors, bow thruster e-motors and battery solution.
The director of Electrical & Power Systems at Wärtsilä Marine, Torsten Büssow, said "Wärtsilä is committed to making decarbonised shipping possible, so we are delighted to be supporting CSL with solutions that enhance the sustainability of their fleet. This is a short sea shipping vessel that will operate with a lot of manoeuvring and variable load profiles, and electrification and hybridisation systems are the most efficient for such vessels."
