11-month US cement shipments rise in 2021

07 February 2022

US: Total shipments of cement in the US in the first 11 months of 2021 were 99.2Mt, up by 4.1% year-on-year from 95.3Mt in the corresponding period of 2020. The country imported 15.2Mt of cement, up by 17% from 13Mt.

Domestic clinker production for the year totalled 72.2Mt, up by 0.4% from 71.9Mt.

NCL Industries’ third-quarter cement production falls in 2022 financial year

India: NCL Industries has reported an 11% drop in its cement production in the third quarter of the 2022 financial year (1 October 2022 – 31 December 2022) to 561,000t from 633,000t in the corresponding period of the 2021 financial year. The company’s cement dispatches also fell by 11% in the period, to 558,000t from 625,000t. Meanwhile, its cement board production grew by 16% to 19,900t and dispatches of cement boards remained level year-on-year at 19,100t.

US clinker production remains level year-on-year in first nine months of 2021

US: Cement companies in the US produced 57.8Mt of clinker in the first nine months of 2021, in line with production in the corresponding period of 2020. Cement shipments including imports rose by 4.2% year-on-year to 79.9Mt from 76.7Mt, according to the United States Geological Service (USGS). The lead cement consuming states by total shipments were Texas, California and Florida. Texas received 11.4Mt of cement (14% of the national total), down by 8.5% from 12.4Mt, California received 8.19Mt (10%), up by 7.8% from 7.6Mt and Florida received 5.4Mt (6.8%), up by 5.6% from 5.11Mt.

INC’s Vallemi cement plant to continue to dispatch cement despite grinding mill breakdown

Paraguay: State-owned Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) says that its Vallemi plant has suffered a grinding mill breakdown due to an ‘engine failure.’ The producer reassured customers that the issue will not affect the plant’s regular dispatches of cement.

JK Lakshmi Cement’s Durg cement plant resumes cement dispatches

21 October 2021

India: JK Lakshmi Cement resumed dispatches of cement as usual from its Durg cement plant in Chhattisgarh on 19 October 2021. India InfoLine News has reported that this followed the ending of a strike by the Chhattisgarh Cement Transport Association (CTA) on 18 October 2021.

The company said “The illegal strike called by the CTA has since been called off by them. It is hoped that normality will be restored shortly.”

NCL Industries increases second-quarter cement production in 2022 financial year

08 October 2021

India: NCL Industries recorded a 10% year-on-year rise in cement production to 677,000Mt in the second quarter of the 2022 financial year from 615,000t in the second quarter of the 2021 financial year. Its cement dispatches also increased by 10% to 678,000t from 617,000t. The company's cement board production during the quarter was 19,200t, while its cement board dispatches were 18,800t.

Gujarat Sidhee Cement suspends Sidheegram cement plant’s clinker production for maintenance work

07 September 2021

India: Gujarat Sidhee Cement has shut down the kiln line of its Sidheegram, Gujarat, cement plant for 17 – 20 days. India InfoLine News Service has reported that the company will carry out routine maintenance on the plant during the shutdown. It says that grinding and dispatch of cement will continue as usual.

Swiss cement deliveries fall slightly in 2020

13 January 2021

Switzerland: CemSuisse, the Swiss cement association, says that cement deliveries fell by 1.5% year-on-year to 4.15Mt in 2020. Deliveries remained stable in the first quarter before falling by 3.3% year-on-year in the second quarter at the same time of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic. They subsequently recovered to a small increase in the third quarter before falling by 3.1% year-on-year in the fourth.

Cementos Selva resumes Port of Yurimaguas operations

Peru: Cementos Pacasmayo subsidiary Cementos Selva has begun shipping 2550t/yr of cement produced at its 0.4Mt/yr integrated Rioja, San Matrín plant to the city of Iquitos via the Huallaga, Marañon and Amazon rivers following refurbishment of its Port of Yurimaguas cement terminal. The company said, “The facilities provided by the Port of Yurimaguas with its modern infrastructure and equipment, together with a coordinated logistical operation with the Rioja plant, has made it possible to considerably reduce reception and shipment times, demonstrating that good practices in the jungle are possible,” according to the Diario Gestión newspaper.

NTPC Limited dispatches first rail load of fly ash from new depot to ACC Cement’s Tikaria grinding plant

India: State-owned energy supplier NTPC Limited has announced the shipment of 3450t of fly ash from its 3.0GW Rihand power station in Uttar Pradesh to Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim subsidiary ACC Cement’s 3.0Mt/yr Tikaria grinding plant, also in Uttar Pradesh. The Orissa Diary newspaper has reported that the shipment – the first from a new purpose-built rail depot – over 458km is part of NTPC Limited’s commitment to 100% total fly ash utilisation, up from 73% in the 2020 financial year, ended 31 March 2020. ACC supply chain head Suresh Rathi said, “This will pave the way for efficient and safe transportation of all fly ash from power plants to cement production units located at a distance in larger quantity.”

NTPC Limited generates some 60.5Mt/yr of fly ash alongside 62.9GW of power.
