Gujarat Sidhee Cement suspends Sidheegram cement plant’s clinker production for maintenance work

India: Gujarat Sidhee Cement has shut down the kiln line of its Sidheegram, Gujarat, cement plant for 17 – 20 days. India InfoLine News Service has reported that the company will carry out routine maintenance on the plant during the shutdown. It says that grinding and dispatch of cement will continue as usual.

Swiss cement deliveries fall slightly in 2020

Switzerland: CemSuisse, the Swiss cement association, says that cement deliveries fell by 1.5% year-on-year to 4.15Mt in 2020. Deliveries remained stable in the first quarter before falling by 3.3% year-on-year in the second quarter at the same time of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic. They subsequently recovered to a small increase in the third quarter before falling by 3.1% year-on-year in the fourth.

Cementos Selva resumes Port of Yurimaguas operations

Peru: Cementos Pacasmayo subsidiary Cementos Selva has begun shipping 2550t/yr of cement produced at its 0.4Mt/yr integrated Rioja, San Matrín plant to the city of Iquitos via the Huallaga, Marañon and Amazon rivers following refurbishment of its Port of Yurimaguas cement terminal. The company said, “The facilities provided by the Port of Yurimaguas with its modern infrastructure and equipment, together with a coordinated logistical operation with the Rioja plant, has made it possible to considerably reduce reception and shipment times, demonstrating that good practices in the jungle are possible,” according to the Diario Gestión newspaper.

NTPC Limited dispatches first rail load of fly ash from new depot to ACC Cement’s Tikaria grinding plant

India: State-owned energy supplier NTPC Limited has announced the shipment of 3450t of fly ash from its 3.0GW Rihand power station in Uttar Pradesh to Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim subsidiary ACC Cement’s 3.0Mt/yr Tikaria grinding plant, also in Uttar Pradesh. The Orissa Diary newspaper has reported that the shipment – the first from a new purpose-built rail depot – over 458km is part of NTPC Limited’s commitment to 100% total fly ash utilisation, up from 73% in the 2020 financial year, ended 31 March 2020. ACC supply chain head Suresh Rathi said, “This will pave the way for efficient and safe transportation of all fly ash from power plants to cement production units located at a distance in larger quantity.”

NTPC Limited generates some 60.5Mt/yr of fly ash alongside 62.9GW of power.

Krichevcementnoshifer increases first-quarter exports by 41% year-on-year in 2020

Belarus: Krichevcementnoshifer exported US$2.47m-worth of cement in the first quarter of 2020, up by 41% year-on-year from US$1.75m-worth in the corresponding period of 2019. Belta News has reported that the company, whose 0.6Mt/yr integrated plant at Krichev, Mogilev region serves the eastern Belarusian and Russian markets, made total sales of US$15.4m, up by 22% year-on-year from US$12.6m. Krichevcementnoshifer CEO Vladimir Korchevsky said, “We consistently ship 5000t of cement to consumers every day. April 2020 saw shipments reach 6000t/day. We can conclude that, despite the current difficulties associated with the coronavirus pandemic, the demand for our products has not decreased.”

In April 2020 Krichevcementnoshifer completed construction of an elevated track for the unloading of bulk materials from railway cars, reducing unloading time.

Spain: HeidelbergCement subsidiary HeidelbergCement Hispania has informed clients that its plants remain open ‘in order to continue to provide required products and services, combining this availability with the mandatory security measures.’ Deliveries and collections continue, subject to the requirements of its Prevention and Safety protocol. In the interests of safety, HeidelbergCement Hispania’s service team has replaced most site visits with additional telephone services.

Salonit Anhovo suspends production

24 April 2020

Slovenia: Salonit Anhovo suspended production from 20 April 2020 to 4 May 2020. SeeNews has reported the reason for the suspension as a lack of demand from its usual Italian and Slovenian markets amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis. Salonit Anhovo management board member Dejan Zwitter said, "We expect domestic sales to stabilise as the government is providing incentives for construction activities."

The company will continue to serve its customers with deliveries of it products.

Raysut Cement receives 44,000t of clinker

Oman: Raysut Cement has announced its receipt of 44,000t of clinker via the port of Sohar, Al Batinah North Governorate. The material will contribute to Raysut Cement’s strategic stockpile to help meet Omani cement demand throughout the coronavirus crisis.

Schwenk Zement acquires Celitement

09 April 2020

Germany: Hydraulic calcium hydrosilicate (hCHS)-based cement producer Celitement has gone from being a Schwenk-affiliated company to a full subsidiary of the 5.76Mt/yr integrated capacity cement producer. Celitement plans to upgrade its pilot plant at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Baden-Württemberg, to increase production capacity. When this is completed, it will offer ‘single-digit tonne’ deliveries to ‘select investors’ and begin ‘large-scale practical testing.’ These will determine the feasibility of establishing an industrial Celitement plant.

Celitement was set up in 2009 to develop novel construction materials based on several patents for hCHS binding agents.

Cemex Colombia cleans the streets in Maceo

03 April 2020

Colombia: Workers from Cemex Colombia are using vehicles volunteered by the company to transport water and disinfectant for use in street cleaning in Maceo, Antioquia department. Esmerk Latin American News has reported that the aim of the exercise is to combat the spread of coronavirus. Cemex Colombia has also donated food, water and antibacterial gel to communities around its 2.8Mt/yr Caracolito plant near Ibagué, Tomila department.
