Argentina: The Portland Cement Manufacturers Association (AFCP) has reported that cement dispatches in the period between 1 January 2020 and 30 April 2020 were 2.3Mt, down by 36% year-on-year from 3.6Mt in the corresponding period of 2019. Between March and April dispatches fell by 20% to 408,000t, down by 55% year-on-year from 907,000t in April 2019. The El Economista newspaper has reported that the decline ‘reflects the worsening of the fall in the private and public demand for housing, road, public works and infrastructure in all the districts of the country.’
Chilean cement despatches grow by 5% to 306Mt so far in 2019
22 November 2019Chile: Data from the Chilean Construction Chamber shows that cement despatches grew by 5% year-on-year to 3.06Mt in the nine months to the end of September 2019 from 2.91Mt in the same period in 2018. The country reported annual cement despatches of 3.99Mt in 2018, a similar figure to 2017.
Moroccan cement despatches grow by 2% to 10Mt so far in 2019
08 October 2019Morocco: Cement deliveries by members of the l'Association Professionnelle des Cimentiers (APC) grew by 2% year-on-year to 10Mt in the first nine months of 2019 from 9.8Mt in the same period in 2018. The growth was driven by building construction, according to Médias 24. However, cement used by the infrastructure segment fell by 15% in the reporting period.
Peru: Cement production rose by 6% year-on-year to 5.02Mt in the first half of 2019 from 4.75Mt in the same period in 2018. Local despatches rose by 5% to 4.84Mt from 4.60Mt. Data from the Asociación de Productores de Cemento (ASOCEM) shows that clinker exports fell by 18% to 0.45Mt from 0.55Mt. Clinker imports remained stable. Consumption increased by 3% to 5.50Mt from 5.33Mt.
Pakistan: Cement despatches fell by 9% year-on-year to 34.6Mt in the nine months to the end of March 2019 from 34.8Mt in the same period to March 2018. Data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) shows that despatches and exports fell in both the north of the country but that despatches fell and exports rose in the south. Exports more than doubled in the south to 3.14Mt. This was due to a reported start in seabourne clinker sales in the 2018 – 2019 year. Otherwise, overall cement exports to Afghanistan and India declined.
Colombian cement production grows modestly in 2018
31 January 2019Colombia: Ordinary Portland Cement production grew by 1.2% year-on-year to 12.5Mt in 2018 from 12.3Mt in 2017. Data from DANE, the Colombian statistics authority, shows that deliveries to the local market increased slightly, by 0.2%, to 12Mt. Production grew faster in December 2018 on a year-on-year basis with 6.8% growth.
Pakistan cement despatches up by 9.4% to 46.8Mt in 2018
23 January 2019Pakistan: Local cement despatches grew by 5.9% year-on-year to 40.9Mt in 2018 from 38.6Mt in 2017. Exports increased by 42% to 5.9Mt from 4.6Mt, according to data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association. Overall, all cement despatches rose by 9.4% to 46.8Mt from 42.8Mt. By region, despatches and imports grew faster in the south of the country and exports fell by 7.8% in the north. Exports to Afghanistan fell by 12% but exports to India rose by 2% and overseas exports increased by 155%.
INC despatches grow by 2% in 2018
08 January 2019Paraguay: Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) says that its despatches of cement grew by 2% year-on-year to 12.7 million bags in 2018 from 12.6 million bags in 2017. The company described how it overcame a ‘difficult moment’ in late 2018 by normalising the cement despatch process and supplying overdue orders. Local media reported a shortage of cement and technical issues at INCs Villeta plant in late 2018.
Saudi Arabian cement despatches drop 5.4% so far in 2018
23 November 2018Saudi Arabia: Cement despatches dropped by 5.4% year-on-year to 37.3Mt in the first 10 months of 2018 from 39.4Mt in the same period in 2017. The local industry’s utilisation rate has declined in consecutive months since October 2017 to just 54.8% in October 2018, according to Aljazira Capital. At the same time clinker inventories increased by 1.6% month-on-month to 41.6Mt in October 2018.
Russia: HeidelbergCement Russia has held an opening ceremony for a new despatch system at its Slantsev ‘Cesla’ plant in the Leningrad region. Mihail Polendakov, General Director of HeidelbergCement in Russia, Anton Hadjiiski, General Director of the plant, Mikhail Moskvin, Deputy Chairman of the Leningrad Region Government for Construction, and Deputy Prime Minister Leningrad Region - Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development and Investment Activities Dmitry Yalov attended the opening.
Following the upgrade the plant now uses an automated loading system for its trucks. The investment for the project was around Euro13m. The unit has a cement production capacity of 0.8Mt/yr.
