Cemex Egypt launches decarbonisation equipment at Assiut cement plant

04 October 2024

Egypt: Cemex Egypt has inaugurated new decarbonisation equipment at the Assiut cement plant, aligning with its ‘Future in Action’ sustainability strategy. The technology repurposes residual material into energy, incorporating high-efficiency separators and improvements to the calciner process, reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 32kg/t of cement produced, totalling a reduction of 290,000t/yr.

President of Cemex Egypt & UAE, Yago Castro, said “The inauguration of the decarbonisation equipment at the Assiut plant is a testament to our ongoing efforts to create a more sustainable future for our communities and the planet. At Cemex, we are committed to leading climate action in the industry, using the highest alternative fuels substitution rate in the cement industry in Egypt.”

Adani Cement installs new IKN grate at plant in Himachal Pradesh

18 June 2024

India: Adani Cement is upgrading its facility in Himachal Pradesh by installing a new 7800t/day double-stage cooler grate. This upgrade aims to increase efficiency, lower power consumption and clinker temperature and enhance waste heat recovery system performance, according to the company. The project involves replacing the first and second grates of the existing IKN pendulum cooler.

Kreisel supplies high-pressure rotary valves for cement plant in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia: Kreisel has delivered three 700 x 700mm high-pressure rotary valves to a China-based engineering firm for its construction of a cement plant in Saudi Arabia. Each valve is equipped with Ultra-Carbide protection and is able to convey 125t/hr of raw meal over a distance of 263m. In addition to the valves, Kreisel will also supply air supply units and other non-critical components.

Orcan Energy to fully produce waste heat recovery systems at Kiel plant

Germany: Orcan Energy has expanded its Kiel plant in order to produce its waste heat recovery (WHR) systems entirely on-site. The expansion aims to meet increased global demand, in line with Orcan Energy's strategy to help reduce CO2 emissions from cement and other industries.

Orcan Energy CEO Andreas Sichert said "The decision to expand our in-house production capacity in Kiel reflects our commitment to growth and innovation in Germany. With roots in Munich and a range of global projects, we can promote sustainable change around the world from Germany. I look forward to working together with my colleagues in Kiel to contribute to a profitable and sustainable energy future."

Aggregate Industries removes gas duct sections at Cauldon cement plant

29 January 2024

UK: Aggregate Industries has successfully removed gas duct sections from the electrostatic precipitation filter at its Cauldon cement plant in Staffordshire. This will make way for the installation of a new CTP Team process kiln bag filter, following an annual shutdown.

Cauldon plant capital expenditure manager Mark Powling said “The new bag filter not only provides the best available technology, but will enable the Cauldon plant to optimise its plant performance, driving its decarbonisation and alternative fuel strategies. Thanks to the project team for their efforts and hard work to date.”

Middle East Calcined Clay and Kaolin Group International to build limestone calcined clay cement plant

11 January 2024

Oman: Middle East Calcined Clay and Netherlands-based Kaolin Group International plan to build a limestone calcined clay cement plant in Oman. The partners have hired Spain-based turnkey plant engineer IPIAC to supply equipment including its Plug and Clay clay calcination unit. The new plant will produce limestone calcined clay cement with 40% lower CO2 emissions than ordinary Portland cement (OPC), according to the supplier.

IPIAC previously introduced the technology in Cuba and Ivory Coast, and is currently retrofitting it to a clinker line in Angola.

Siam City Cement (Lanka) orders SpectraFlow Airslide analyser for Puttalam cement plant

14 December 2023

Sri Lanka: Switzerland-based SpectraFlow Analytics has received an order for a SpectraFlow Airslide analyser and raw mix proportioning software from Siam City Cement (Lanka). The equipment will analyse the composition of material exiting the raw materials mill at Siam City Cement (Lanka)’s Puttalam cement plant. The supplier says that this will help to increase kiln feed quality, lowering the chances of refractory problems and other causes of kiln stoppages.

SpectraFlow Analytics said “The ever increasing demand in cost savings and at the same time improving product quality led Siam City Cement (Lanka) to invest in the most advanced raw mill optimisation package available on the market.”

Flender wins Caterpillar’s Supplier Excellence Recognition Award 2023

US: Germany-based drives supplier Flender has received the Supplier Excellence Recognition Award 2023 from engineering firm Caterpillar. The award recognises suppliers that demonstrate a commitment to excellence and drive a zero-defect culture. Caterpillar said that Flender exceeded 95% delivery reliability, with zero defects, during 2023. Contracts included gearboxes, remanufactured gearboxes, spare parts and couplings for Caterpillar’s 7495 Rope Shovel. The 7495 Rope Shovel is used in quarrying, including in the cement industry.

Caterpillar’s senior vice president strategic procurement and planning Pam Heminger said “Caterpillar’s reputation for world-class products and services stands on the shoulders of our global and diverse team – and that team includes our international and diverse supply network. By working together, we can deliver on our purpose to help our customers build a better, more sustainable world.”

Bruks Siwertell delivers three new road-mobile ship unloaders to cement customers in North America

01 December 2023

North America: Sweden-based Bruks Siwertell successfully delivered three new road-mobile ship unloaders to two cement industry customers in North America, including one in Mexico, in November 2023. Both customers selected the supplier’s 10 000 S Siwertell unloaders. One of the cement producers now has four such units in operation, and the other now has one.

Bruks Siwertell project development engineer Pedro Alfaro said “The US is seeing a huge rise in demand for cement, and our technology is helping operators meet these volume increases in the most sustainable way possible.” He continued “Road-mobile units ensure minimal dust emissions and enclosed and spillage-free conveying, and offer excellent through-ship capacity and the flexibility of being able to move between sites. We are also one of the few companies able to supply a ship unloading solution that can discharge cement from vessels directly to trucks.”
