Russia: Soyuzcement, the national cement manufacturing union, has held a meeting discussing reverse engineering components for cement plants. The meeting of the committee for cement engineering took place at Cementum’s Schurovsky plant. The context of the meeting was that, before international sanctions were imposed upon Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, around 70% of the equipment and components for the cement sector was imported. At the event representatives of Cementum shared best practice of reverse engineering, including methodology and specific examples of manufacturing spare parts including scanning them to build three-dimensional models. The sector intends to further collaborate with local manufacturers to source the necessary parts.
World: Menzel Elektromotoren says that it has successfully supplied a new MEBSSL-type three-phase slip ring mill motor to a cement plant. The supplier modeled the new motor on a preexisting machine at the site, with a 710mm-high shaft and 2000kW rated power capacity. It is also equipped with a short-circuiting and brush-loading device. It said that this will reduce costs and increase efficiency.
Menzel Elektromotoren is currently building a new motor plant at Henningsdorf in Brandenburg, Germany, which will also function as its new headquarters from 2024.
Türkiye: Italy-based Bedeschi says that it received an order for four pipe conveyers and an SHL 26/1000 ship loader from Medcem Cement. Medcem Cement will install the equipment as part of an expansion to its Yeşilovacık cement and clinker terminal in Mersin Province. The conveyors will form a 1km-long system with a conveying capacity of 1000t/hr of cement or 1350t/hr of clinker.
Bedeschi said that it previously supplied a ship loader of the same specifications for the Yeşilovacık terminal.
Beumer Group launches modular Paletpac palletiser
15 March 2023Germany: Beumer has redesigned its Paletpac palletiser on a modular pattern. The new design comprises modules that can be picked from either side, and reduce the necessary forklift capacity for configuration to 5t from 8t.
Product business divisional director Kay Wieczorek said "The performance of the machines can be modified at a later time if necessary, and if there is ever a need for retrofitting or repairs, the new design saves a lot of time.”
West Africa: Germany-based InterCem has successfully despatched its second InterHop hopper to West Africa. The hopper will handle clinker and raw materials for an unnamed customer there. The supplier says that the equipment offers an unloading rate of 14,400t/hr. It produced it in the UAE.
Germany: Hazemag has successfully completed its construction of a Centre Sizer 1025 crusher and a HAF25142 apron feeder. Hazemag will now despatch the equipment to Florida, US, where a ‘major aggregate and cement producer’ will integrate them in its operations.
Hazemag said “From the project’s inception, this producer focused on key partners that could deliver proven, reliable solutions - we are happy to be one of them.”
Russia: Eurocement has revealed how it reorganised its business in 2022 in response to foreign equipment suppliers leaving the country and disruptions to domestic supplies of raw materials. The cement producer was forced to take this action in response to the effects of European and US economic sanctions imposed upon Russia following its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The cement producer started logging all purchases as prices escalated, special procedures were developed for critical materials and services, a compliance department was created, its network of suppliers in Russia and from countries not part of the sanctions was expanded and the company set up its own repair units at its plants.
Germany: Menzel Elektromotoren held a topping out ceremony for the erection of the last structural beam in its upcoming Hennigsdorf motors plant in Berlin on 16 December 2022. The motors manufacturer expects to complete construction in mid-2023 and commission the facility late that year. Full-capacity operations will commence from January 2024. Menzel Elektromotoren will relocate existing equipment from its Central Berlin plant to the new 6500m2 site. The Hennigsdorf plant will offer an increased hoist capacity of 80t, enabling it to handle larger pieces of equipment.
In the cement industry, Menzel Elektromotoren motors run blowers, conveyor systems, crushers, fans and mills.
Israel: Cemex subsidiary ReadyMix Industries has placed a new order with transport safety technology supplier SaverOne 2014. The ready-mix concrete producer ordered a further 25 mobile phone control units for its truck fleet. The units are cloud-enabled and run off a mobile app which blocks drivers from using phones when their vehicle is in motion. The smart system can detect when a truck is stopped and differentiate between driver and passenger, enabling access when needed. Users can integrate their fleet's units with existing logistics management systems.
ReadyMix Industries completed a successful trial of SaverOne 2014's system earlier in 2022.
Hanson appoints MHI Engineering for Padeswood cement plant carbon capture installation
15 December 2022UK: Heidelberg Materials subsidiary Hanson has awarded a contract to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries subsidiary MHI Engineering for installation of a planned 800,000t/yr carbon capture system at its Padeswood cement plant in Flintshire. The producer plans to store its captured CO2 in exhausted Irish Sea natural gas fields. MHI Engineering will carry out a pre-front-end engineering design study using its Advanced KM CDR solvent-based process. The supplier developed the process jointly with fellow Japan-based company Kansai Electric Power.
The project will be MHI Engineering's third of its kind at a cement plant, following similar commissions with Lehigh Cement in Canada and Tokuyama Cement in Canada.
