JK Cement rebrands JK White Cement as WhiteMaxX

India: JK Cement says that it will sell its white cement, formerly JK White Cement, under the new name ‘WhitemaxX.’ The Economic Times newspaper has reported that the new name “strengthens JK Cement’s core commitment to delivering the maximum to its consumers and partners with a focus on consistent and premium product quality,” according to the company.

JK Cement is the world’s third largest white cement producer and it exports WhiteMaxX to 43 countries.

JK Cement’s grey cement sales fall by 20% in first quarter

India: JK Cement’s grey cement sales fell by around 20% year-on-year in the first quarter of its financial year to 30 June 2020. They have recovered gradually since coronavirus-related lockdowns eased. White cement sales have recovered slower and dropped by 50% in the first quarter. The cement producer temporarily suspended operations at its plants in five states in late March 2020. Operations resumed in late April 2020 in a phased manner. The company added that its capital and financial resources remained “entirely protected in spite of adverse impact on its sales.”

Sesco Group buys terminal in the Netherlands

Netherlands: Royal Cement Benelux, part of Royal El Minya Cement and the Sesco Group, has acquired a new 18,500m2 facility in the port of Schiedam near Rotterdam. The new facility, which includes 13,500m2 combined office, storage and operating space will be the company’s second European location. Available on the premises is 160 M1 Quay, which can receive ships up to 15,000dwt.

“The opening of Royal Cement Benelux’s new Schiedam facility is an important step towards the ambition to develop the European market,” said Martin Bakker, general manager of Royal Cement Benelux. The company intends to target its white cement products from the terminal to Germany by barge, to several locations in Belgium and the Netherlands by inland rivers and to the UK by sea.

The new location is intended to be first of several expansions for the company in 2020. Royal Cement Benelux says it wants to take former business in Western Europe from CBR since it stopped white cement production. The group is also opening an Italian terminal.

Residential construction rises by 24% year-on-year in Tajikistan

26 February 2020

Tajikistan: Builders completed the construction of 1.36Mm2 of multi-storey housing in Tajikistan in 2019, up by 24% from 1.10Mm2 in 2018. Tajikistan Newsline has reported that all residential construction concrete comes from domestically produced cement. Tajikistan produced 4.2Mt of cement in 2019 - up by 11% from 1.8Mt in 2018 - exporting 1.5Mt. It imported 20,000t, primarily of white cement.

Çimsa launches white cement product at World of Concrete trade fair

US: Turkey’s Çimsa has launched a new white cement product for the US market at the World of Concrete trade fair in Las Vegas. The subsidiary of Sabancı Holding has showcased its Çimsa Aluminates and Çimsa Super White product ranges.

“As one of the largest grey cement producers of Turkey, Çimsa is among the top three in the global league of white cement. We have increased our visibility in the global cement industry through our investments abroad,” said, Çimsa’s chief executive officer (CEO) Ülkü Özcan. He added that the cement producer founded its Cimsa Americas Cement Manufacturing and Sales Corp in the US in 2017. It then started operations at a grinding mill in Houston, Texas in 2019.

Qatar National Cement Company produces 2.2Mt and profit falls by 51% year-on-year in 2019

Qatar: Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) has recorded a profit of US$47.3m in 2019 – down by 51% from US$95.5m in 2018. This was caused by a 17% year-on-year fall in earnings to US$193m from US$233m in 2018 due to a 24% fall in production year-on-year – from 2.9Mt to 2.2Mt – and increased costs from the completion of the fifth line at the company’s integrated plant, as well as the diversification of its products to include white as well as grey cement.

Siguaney cement plant re-enters production

26 November 2019

Cuba: Following 18 months of reduced operations in which time maintenance and repairs on its grey cement kilns were carried out, Corporacion Cementos Cubanos’ 0.7Mt/yr Siguaney plant is once more fully operational across its four wet lines. Esmerk has reported that the company hopes to re-open its white cement kiln at the nearest possible date.

JK Cement relaunches JK Wall Putty as WallMaxX

India: JK Cement has revealed its rebranded JK Wall Putty, which will be known as WallMaxX. JK Cement operates 10.9Mt/yr of cement capacity across India. It launched its JK Wall Putty, the main constituent of which is its white cement, in 2002 to give a highly water-resistant finish to plaster that prevents seepage and flaking.

Al Jouf Cement signs technical contract to convert line to white cement production

02 October 2019

Saudi Arabia: Al Jouf Cement has signed a six-month technical contract with China’s Riga Company to convert its second production line to produce white cement. The contract was signed to coincide with the arrival of the project team that will handle the conversion. No value for the upgrade has been disclosed.

UTD Cement Uzbek plant project increased to 5Mt/yr

24 July 2019

Uzbekistan: UTD Cement has increased the size of a new integrated cement plant it plans to build in the Farish district of Jizzakh region to 5Mt/yr from 4Mt/yr. The decision to increase the size of the upgrade has followed access to a new limestone quarry at Almaz, according to the Trend News Agency. Once completed the plant will produce 4Mt/yr of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and 1Mt/yr of white cement. UTD Holding is planning invest over Euro400m in the project. It is working with German companies Phoenix Consulting and MN Medianet.
