Oman: Iran’s Hormozgan Cement has entered into a shareholder’s agreement with Al Anwar Holdings to build a 1Mt/yr cement grinding plant in the Duqm special economic zone. The project is expected to have an investment of US$27m and commissioning of the project is subject to receiving approvals from relevant regulatory authorities and required funding from banking institutions in Oman.
Morocco: LafargeHolcim is preparing to inaugurate its Laâyoune cement grinding plant. The unit is expcted to join Ciments du Maroc, a subsidiary of HeidelbergCement, that also operates a grinding plant in the south of the country, accoridng to the Aujourd'hui Le Maroc newspaper. In addition to these plants Anouar Invest also announced plans in late 2015 to build a 0.5Mt/yr cement plant in the region under the name of Ciement Sud (CIMSUD).
LafargeHolcim to double production in Ivory Coast
21 April 2017Ivory Coast: LafargeHolcim intends to double its cement production capacity to 2Mt/yr from May 2017. The increase in production will follow the commissioning of a new 1Mt/yr mill, according to the Fraternité Matin newspaper. The mill has cost US$24.5m to install. LafargeHolcim operates a 1Mt/yr cement grinding plant in Abidjan. The upgrade is expected to raise local production to 5.1Mt/yr.
Rwanda: Prime Cement has signed a deal with Denmark’s FLSmidth to build a US$65m cement grinding plant in Musanze District, Northern Province. Gisele Bayigamba, the general manager of Milbridge Holding, a consortium that owns Prime Cement, said that construction of the unit will start in the third quarter of 2018, according to the New Times newspaper. The plant will have a cement production capacity of 0.7Mt/yr once operational. The project is also expected to create over 1500 jobs. A proposed second phase to the project will add an integrated clinker plant within the next five years.
FlSmidth added that the contract will become effective when FLSmidth receives a down payment from the customer, which is expected to happen later in 2017. The order includes a OK(TM) 27-4 vertical mill for cement grinding, filters, a control system and plant automation, a packing plant and weighing and metering systems. FLSmidth will also supply equipment from other FLSmidth brands, such as a planetary mill gear unit from FLSmidth MAAG Gear, filters from FLSmidth Airtech, a control system and plant automation from FLSmidth Automation, a packing plant from FLSmidth Ventomatic and weighing and metering systems from FLSmidth Pfister.
Gebr. Pfeiffer reveals mill orders in India and Pakistan
04 April 2017India/Pakistan: Gebr. Pfeiffer has released information about orders for its mills for projects in India and Pakistan. In India Wonder Cement has ordered a MVR 6000 C-6 vertical roller mill from the company for its Nimbahera cement plant in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The mill will have a 5820kW drive and it will grind cement to a fineness of 4500 cm²/g according to Blaine. The mill can also be used to grind blended cement using slag, fly ash and gypsum.
Core components of the mill, including the rollers, will be supplied from Europe. The mill foundation parts, the housing and the integrated SLS 5600 BC classifier will be provided by Gebr. Pfeiffer India. Delivery of the mill is scheduled by the end of 2017.
In Pakistan Cherat Cement have ordered a MVR 6300 C-6 mill from Gebr. Pfeiffer for its cement plant in Cherat. The mill will grind 365t/hr of Ordinary Portland Cement to a fineness of 3200cm2/g according to Blaine. The MultiDrive will have a total output of 7800kW. Delivery is scheuled for 2018.

Redcliff cement grinding plant starts production
03 April 2017Zimbabwe: China’s Livetouch Investments has started production at its 0.4Mt/yr cement grinding plant at Redcliff. Managing director and co-shareholder Dongning Wang said that the US$30m plant had started operation at 70% of its capacity, according to the Herald Business newspaper. The plant is expected to employ 200 workers once it is fully operational. The company markets its cement under the Diamond Masonry brand.
Although some work remains on the first phase of the project the second phase will see the construction of a clinker producing plant at the same site. The company is negotiating at present with the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development for access to limestone deposits. Work on the second phase is expected to start six to nine months after the mineral rights are secured.
Cemex upgrades grinding plant in Guatemala
03 April 2017Guatemala: Cemex has completed production and bagging line upgrades its Arizona cement grinding plant in the Port of San José. The project cost US$3.7m and it included the completion of a second bagging line, changes in lift capacity and the installation of new mill controls, according to the Prensa Libre newspaper. The upgrades are expected to increase the plant’s production capacity by about 10% to 545,000t/yr and to speed up bagging by 46% to 96t/hr.
Loesche reports on DG Khan Cement project at Hub
31 March 2017Pakistan: Loesche has released details on its order to supply three grinding plants for DG Khan Cement for a new 9000t/day clinker production line at Hub in Balochistan. The contract, which was originally signed in September 2015, includes one 654t/hr raw meal, one 445t/hr Ordinary Portland Cement mill with a COPE drive and a 66t/hr coal mill. Loesche says that the raw mill with a nominal capacity of 1050t/hr will be the biggest raw material mill in the world. Loesche is responsible for the full mechanical equipment and together with Loesche Automation for the electrical engineering package along with all hardware supply from steel structure to electrical equipment and automation.
India: Sagar Cement has ordered a vertical roller mill from Gebr. Pfeiffer for grinding granulated blast-furnace slag and granulated blast-furnace slag cements. The mill will be used at a new 160t/hr slag grinding plant at the cement producer’s Bayyavaram Village unit near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Delivery is scheduled to take place before the end of 2017. No price for the order has been disclosed.
The order is for a MVR 5000 C-4 mill equipped with a 4300kW-drive and four grinding rollers with active redundancy. The plant will grind granulated blast-furnace slag with a fineness of about 4,500 cm²/g acc. Blaine and it will also be able to grind composite cements from varying portions of granulated blast-furnace slag, fly ash and gypsum.
Core components of the mills, including the roller, tension system, grinding bowl and planetary gearbox, will be supplied from Europe. The mill foundation parts, the housing and the integrated high-efficiency classifier of the type SLS 4750 BC will be provided by Gebr. Pfeiffer India. The local subsidiary will also supply most of the equipment required to complete the grinding plant, including the plant fan and hot gas generator.
Anhui Conch repairs balance sheet in 2016
24 March 2017China: Anhui Conch returned to rising sales revenue and profit in 2016 after a problematic year in 2015 beset by a poor market for cement. Its revenue rose by 9.7% year-on-year to US$8.12bn in 2016 from US$7.40bn in 2015. Its sales volumes of cement and clinker rose by 8% to 277Mt. Its net profit rose by 14% to US$1.24bn from US$1.09bn. The group says that its adoption of a flexible marketing strategy for different regions and plants and a focus on lowering production costs delivered sales growth and operating savings. However, its full year results are in contrast to its ones for the first nine months of 2016, in which it reported small declines in its revenue and net profit.
During the year the cement producer finished building six clinker production lines at Yingjiangyunhan Cement and Yiyang Conch Cement and it completed 18 cement grinding plants at Wenshan Conch Cement and Ganzhou Conch Cement. In addition to purchased the assets of Anhui Chaodong Cement. Outside of China the group completed lines in Indonesia and Myanmar, started buildings projects in Indonesia, Cambodia and Laos and started early work on new projects in Russia and Myanmar. At the end of 2016 the group says it has a clinker and cement production capacity of 244Mt/yr and 313Mt/yr respectively. It also reported that it had completed 15 waste treatment projects by the end of the year to feed cement plant kilns with domestic waste.
