Cementos Fortaleza building grinding plant in Merida
28 September 2018Mexico: Cementos Fortaleza has started to build a new 0.25Mt/yr grinding plant at Merida in Yucatan. The project has an investment of US$30m, according to the El Economista newspaper. The plant is scheduled to open in July 2019. It will create 50 direct jobs.
Cameroon: Cimencam has assured Ernest Gbwaboubou, the Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, that the first bag of cement will be despatched from the Nomayos grinding plant in the first quarter of 2019. The comments were made during a visit by Gbwaboubou to the unit, according to Business in Cameroon magazine. The minister also noted that the compensation process for residents affected by a power line to the plant had yet to be completed.
The new plant will have a production capacity of 0.5Mt/yr. The project has an investment of around US$40m. The plant will source pozzolans from a quarry at Foumbot.
Dangote Cement to open new grinding plant in Takoradi by end of 2019
26 September 2018Ghana: Brice Houeto, the new country head of Dangote Cement in Ghana, says that the company expects to open its new grinding plant in Takoradi by end of 2019. The incoming manager made the comments to the Daily Graphic newspaper. The new unit will have a production capacity of 1.5Mt/yr. It is expected to create 1000 new jobs in the Western Region.
JSW Cement starts building grinding plant in Odisha
25 September 2018India: JSW Cement has started building a 1.2Mt/yr cement grinding plant at Kalinganagar Industrial Complex in the Jajpur district of Odisha. The unit will be used to produce Ordinary Portland Cement and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), according to Projects Today. The project had been on hold since 2016 due to issues with the land. The unit is expected to be operational by September 2020.
ARM Cement looking for buyer of Kigali Cement plant
24 September 2018Rwanda: Kenya’s ARM Cement is set to auction off its Kigali Cement plant in Nyarugenge District for a second time, following a first attempt. The company forced a legal postponement to the first auction when offers for the unit failed to reach a level it deemed acceptable, according to the New Times newspaper. The only bid it received was for US$113,000 a figure significantly short of the estimate US$1.4m market value of the plant. Kigali Cement operates a 0.1Mt/yr plant.
Kigali Cement plant is being sold in order to pay its creditor, Rwanda Enterprise Investment Company (REIC) in a long running dispute between the companies. ARM Cement owns Kigali Cement but REIC has held shares in it since 2008. ARM Cement acquired a stake in Kigali Cement in 2010 and later took over the management of the company in 2014. Meanwhile, ARM Cement entered administration at home in Kenya in late August 2018.
First clinker shipment arrives at Port of Ngqura for Osho Cement
21 September 2018South Africa: A ship carrying clinker and gypsum has arrived at the Port of Ngqura. The raw material is intended for Osho Cement, a company setting up a grinding plant at Coega special economic zone, according to the Herald newspaper. The imported clinker and gypsum was transported by truck to the new plant.
The joint venture between South Africa’s Osho ventures and Germany’s Heidelberg Cement plans to market cement from its new unit to South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and islands in the Indian Ocean. The plant is scheduled to open the new plant in late 2018.
CIMAF opens cement grinding plant in Chad
13 September 2018Chad: Morocco’s Ciments de l’Afrique (CIMAF) has launched commercial operations at its new 0.5Mt/yr grinding plant at Lamadji. CIMAF regional director Hatim Kahttabi said that the production capcity of the unit is expandable to 1Mt/yr, according to Alwihda. The project had an investment of Euro35m and it has created 200 jobs.
Simba Cement opens new grinding plant in Uganda
29 August 2018Uganda: Simba Cement has opened a new 1Mt/yr grinding plant in Tororo. The unit had an investment of US$45m, according to the Daily Monitor newspaper. The plant was built by Mepani Technical Services and construction started in early 2016. Simba Cement Uganda is a subsidiary of National Cement Kenya, which is part of Devki Group.
Prime Cement starts building grinding plant in Rwanda
29 August 2018Rwanda: Construction work has started on Prime Cement’s new grinding plant in Musanze District. The subsidiary of Milbridge Group plans to complete the unit by mid-2019, according to the New Times newspaper. The plant is expected to have a cement production capacity of 0.7Mt/yr, with plans to expands this to 1.2Mt/yr. Denmark’s FLSmidth signed a deal with Prime Cement in 2017 to supply equipment for the plant. Once finished the plant is expected to create 600 jobs.
OCL India holds stone-laying ceremony at Rajgangpur plant
28 August 2018India: OCL India has held a stone-laying ceremony for its third integrated cement plant at its Rajgangpur site in Odisha. Naveen Patnaik, chief minister of Odisha state, attended the event along with the management of OCL India and its owners, Dalmia Cement (Bharat). The new unit will be known as Dalmia DSP.
The new plant will have a 2.25Mt/yr cement and 3Mt/yr clinker production capacity. Once it becomes operational it will increase production at the Rajgangpur site to 6.25Mt/yr of cement and 5.9Mt/yr of clinker.
The project has an investment of US$356m and it is expected to be commissioned by early 2020. As part of the project the cement producer also plans to build a 2.5Mt/yr cement plant with an investment of US$57m at Biswali near Cuttack.
