93% of Cemex's cement customers now use Cemex Go sales platform
23 November 2022Mexico: Cemex has recorded a total of 50,000 users of its Cemex Go online sales platform since its launch in 2017. Exchanges via the platform account for 93% of the group's global cement customers and 85% of concrete customers. Cemex Go's net promoter score (NPS) customer satisfaction rating rose by 50% between November 2018 and November 2022.
Chief executive officer González Olivieri said "Cemex Go is an important enabler in our transition to a lower carbon industry by improving supply chain logistics, moving to a paperless industry and increasing efficiency throughout the construction sector."
Colombia: BBVA has extended a sustainable line of credit to Cemex Colombia customers for purchases of the producer's Vertua reduced CO2 cements range. The line will enable them to extend their payment term on invoices for the products.
Portafolio News has reported that Cemex's Colombia and Peru president Alejandro Ramírez said "Within the framework of our Future in Action strategy, which seeks to develop products, solutions and processes with lower carbon emissions with the aim of becoming a company with zero CO2 emissions, we seek synergies with high-level partners such as BBVA to encourage our customers to buy products that reduce their carbon footprint, as well as to work hand in hand with our stakeholders to generate shared value.”
Holcim completes sale of Brazilian assets to CSN
07 September 2022Brazil: Holcim has closed the sale of its business in Brazil to Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) for an enterprise value of US$1.025bn. The deal was closed following approvals from the Brazilian authorities. This transaction includes Holcim’s five integrated cement plants, four grinding units, six aggregates sites and 19 ready-mix concrete facilities.
Holcim said that Latin America remains a core strategic growth region for the group. In the first half of 2022 it completed a new cement production line in El Salvador and significantly expanded its aggregates operations in El Salvador, Ecuador and Colombia. The company also continued to expand its Disensa retail network across the region with over 2000 stores now open across eight countries.
India: Grasim Industries plans to establish a building materials sales platform with a total investment of US$250m over the five-year period to 2027. The Business Standard newspaper has reported that the new platform offers clear adjacencies with the cement and building materials producer's existing businesses and associate companies.
Parent company Aditya Birla's chair Kumar Mangalam Birla said "The building materials segment presents a huge scalable business opportunity with a proven path to profitability. With this foray, Grasim will be able to leverage the large business-to-business ecosystem within the Aditya Birla Group."
Benin: A local government department covering the Atacora and Donga regions has started forcing the closure of shops and depots that are not following central government-mandated price controls. Other infringements include failure to issue purchasing invoices or display the price properly, according to La Nouvelle Tribune newspaper. The government has implemented controls on certain commodities, including cement and vegetable oil, in reaction to rising prices.
FANCESA to close Sucre sales agency
29 April 2022Bolivia: Fábrica Nacional de Cemento (FANCESA) has announced the planned closure of its Eastern Regional Office (ORO) sales agency in Sucre, Chuquisaca Department. The Correo del Sur newspaper has reported that the agency records 30 – 40% of the level of sales of its other agencies. It operating costs are US$1.57 – 1.75m. 17 people currently work at the ORO Agency. FANCESA acknowledged that it may face labour-related ‘internal problems’ in carrying out the closure.
Cemex Ventures invests in PartRunner
04 March 2022US: Cemex Ventures says that it has invested in industry and construction sector on-demand delivery platform PartRunner. The startup operates a fleet of trucks which provide flexible service to warehouses, retailers and job sites across the US. Under Cemex Ventures’ guidance, it plans to expand its services to also cover Mexico.
Cemex Ventures director Gonzalo Galindo said "This solution fits perfectly with Cemex's commitment to offer our customers greater control over their businesses by improving efficiency and transparency in the delivery of construction products and materials.”
ACC establishes new Green Building Centre in Telangana
14 December 2021India: ACC has expanded its Green Building Centre chain into Telangana. The Orissa Diary newspaper has reported that the producer inaugurated the new Karimnagar Green Building Centre in the state on 14 December 2021. The centre will stock affordable alternative building products such as fly ash bricks and reduced-CO2 concrete blocks. ACC aims to support Indian cities’ social, environmental and financial development through its Green Building Centres.
Managing director and chief executive officer Sridhar Balakrishnan said "At ACC, we strongly believe in embracing communities and working together to effect the real change. ACC's Green Building Centre business model benefits thousands of small scale construction workers by giving them employment and training."
Siam Cement Group acquires stake in Indonesian retail chain
25 November 2021Indonesia: Thailand-based Siam Cement Group (SCG) has completed its acquisition of a 13% stake in building materials retailer Caturkarda Depo Bangunan (CKDB). SCG made the purchase through a joint venture its runs with Siam Global House. The cement producer said that the acquisition was intended to support its strategic expansion in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region and that it might increase its stake at a later date. CKDB is headquartered in Surabaya, East Java.
Mexico: Cemex's Cemex Go online shopping platform has won the Best Internationalisation Strategy award at the Mexican eCommerce Awards 2021. Marketing company Marketing4eCommerce hosted the awards, which compared Mexico's ecommerce platforms across 10 categories. Cemex Go also received nomination in the Best Mobile Transactional App category.
Cemex said "With this distinction, Cemex Go increases its positioning as a reliable app, in addition to offering merchants an alternative to solve their business needs from a mobile phone."
