Heidelberg Materials and Linde select BASF for separation of captured CO2 at Lengfurt cement plant
23 May 2023Germany: Chemicals company BASF has won a contract to supply its OASE Blue CO2 separation technology for use in the upcoming 70,000t/yr carbon capture installation at Heidelberg Material's Lengfurt cement plant in Bavaria. The Capture to Use (Cap2U) project, in partnership with fellow chemicals company Linde, aims to capture CO2 from the plant for use in the chemicals, food and beverages industries.
BASF head of gas treatment Andreas Northemann said “Our portfolio of OASE technologies makes a significant contribution to sustainability and is perfectly suited to help our customers achieve their sustainability targets. This carbon capture and use unit facility has the potential to become a show-case project in a hard-to-abate sector."
Germany: Lubricants specialist Fuchs has announced its collaboration with chemicals company BASF in performing a cradle-to-grave analysis of different mineral oil hydraulic fluids that takes into account all environmental and economic aspects of their lifecycle. The study concluded that high performance multigrade hydraulic oil (HVLP) has a lower environmental impact and lower overall cost than monograde hydraulic oil (HLP). Fuchs said, “This advantage is mainly based on an improved diesel fuel economy throughout the use phase - primarily due to improved volumetric fluid efficiency, lower friction and lower fluid mass circulation ratio.”
Fuchs and BASF both supply lubricants and chemical products to the cement industry.
UK: Aggregate Industries has released a range of admixture-driven waterproofing solutions, blended with a custom mixes of BASF’s MasterLife WP 799, called WatertightTM concrete.
Aggregate industries has described the high performance integrated waterproofing systems as ‘insensitive to weather, groundwater and sprinkler systems.’
Germany/Switzerland: LafargeHolcim has reportedly placed a bid for BASF Construction Chemicals, according to sources quoted by Bloomberg. The cement producer has reached the second round of the bidding processing, along with companies including Bain Capital, Cinven and Standard Industries. The auction of the subsidiary of BASF that produces admixtures, mortars and grouts is expected to reach as much as Euro3bn. LafargeHolcim chief executive officer (CEO Jan Jenisch said in May 2019 that the company is considering at least 10 bolt-on assets purchases for 2019.
BASF to spend Euro6m on new additives plant in Russia
04 April 2018Russia: BASF Construction Systems plans to spend at least Euro6m towards building a new cement additive and concrete admixture plant. The plant will be the company’s fifth in the country, according to Interfax. The subsidiary of Germany’s BASF is currently looking for a site for the unit with a decision planned for 2018. It will then build the plant by 2021.
BASF opens admixtures plant in Sri Lanka
23 August 2016Sri Lanka: BASF has opened its first production plant for admixtures at Sapugaskande near Colombo. The plant will produce standard and custom-made performance-based construction chemicals under the Master Builders Solutions brand. These include concrete admixtures product ranges such as MasterGlenium, MasterPolyheed, MasterRheobuild and MasterPozzolith. The site is supported by an office, warehouse and testing laboratory.
“Asia Pacific is one of the fastest growing markets globally and South Asia is a strategic growth engine of this market. With the new admixture plant in Colombo, we will now be able to rapidly supply our customers with admixtures for all cement and aggregate types, whether their construction projects are located in the capital or in remote areas,” said Himanshu Kapadia, Vice President, Market Management, Construction Chemicals Asia Pacific, BASF, at the inauguration of the new plant on 19 August 2016.
BASF and Lafarge to set up a joint venture in Iraq
16 June 2014Iraq: BASF has entered into a joint venture with Lafarge to set up a new plant for the production and marketing of construction chemicals in the autonomous Iraqi region of Kurdistan. BASF said that the new production site would mainly produce concrete admixtures and cement additives and that the products would be offered to the local market.
For BASF, the joint venture offers the opportunity to further tap into Iraq's growth market with a partner that is already well-established in the region. "This initiative clearly represents BASF's interest and commitment to the Middle East," said Dick Purchase, the head of BASF Construction Chemicals division in the Middle East, West Asia, CIS and Africa. "With this joint venture we are fulfilling our Master Builders Solutions promise of connectedness by being closer to our clients, providing our innovative and sustainable solutions and creating new job opportunities in the region," he added. Under the Master Builders Solutions brand, BASF bundles its advanced chemical solutions for new construction, maintenance, repair and renovation of structures.
