India: Dalmia Cement (Bharat), a material subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat, has commenced commercial production at its cement grinding unit at Rohtas Cement Works in Rohtas district, Bihar, increasing capacity by 0.5Mt/yr to 1.6Mt/yr.
With this rise in cement capacity, the group’s total cement production capacity now stands at 49.5Mt/yr.
Kaushalya Logistics starts operations at depot in Bathnaha
04 February 2025India: Kaushalya Logistics has started operations at a new depot in Bathnaha, Bihar, as part of its logistics services for ACC. This latest site brings the company's total operational locations to 90. It is its fourth depot under its so-called ‘CCFA model’ for the subsidiary of Adani Cement. Kaushalya Logistics transports cement and handles associated logistics on behalf of companies including Adani Cement and JK Cement. It aims to handle a volume of 3.6Mt/yr of cement as part of its current expansion plans.
India: JK Cement has laid the foundation stone for a new grinding unit in Buxar, Bihar, at a cost of US$58.7m. With a capacity of 3Mt/yr, the unit is expected to increase the company’s production capacity to over 30Mt/yr by 2025, from the current 24.3Mt/yr, according to Biltrax Media.
Raghavpat Singhania, managing director of JK Cement, said "The new facility will not only enhance JK Cement's reach across India but also contribute to the overall infrastructural and economic development of Bihar.”
Ambuja Cements to build new grinding unit in Bihar
05 August 2024India: Ambuja Cements will invest US$190m to establish a 6Mt/yr grinding plant in Warisaliganj, Bihar. The project is scheduled in three phases, with the first phase of 2.4Mt/yr costing US$131m, according to the company. The plant has secured environmental clearance and land allocation for potential future expansions, The Telegraph India reports. The project will reportedly create 250 direct jobs and 1000 indirect jobs and will contribute US$30m/yr to Bihar’s economy. It is targeted for completion by December 2025.
Pranav Adani, director of Adani Enterprises, said “This investment aligns with the state government’s development programmes and our growth plans. The cement industry is witnessing healthy volumes due to the government’s infrastructure thrust, and Ambuja Cements is well positioned to support sustainable infrastructure development in the country.”
JK Cement expands Panna cement plant
01 May 2024India: JK Cement has inaugurated a US$341m new line at its Panna cement plant in Madhya Pradesh. The new line doubles the plant's capacity from 3.3Mt/yr to 6.6Mt/yr. Press Trust of India News has reported that the line is equipped with optimised kiln systems, energy-saving technologies and a waste heat recovery plant. The expanded Panna plant will help serve ‘growing demand’ in Central India, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Managing director Raghavpat Singhania said "Our new Panna plant production line is a key pillar in our comprehensive business expansion plan, propelling us towards our vision of becoming a leading player in the cement industry. This strategic expansion allows us to meet the rising demand for high-quality cement, ultimately enhancing our ability to serve our customers.”
JK Cement launches in Bihar
08 April 2024India: JK Cement has entered the East Indian market with the official launch of its grey cement business in Bihar. The company's initial phase targets nine districts in Southern Bihar, introducing its flagship JK Super Cement.
Deputy managing director and CEO Madhavkrishna Singhania said “Our initial focus will be on covering nine districts of Southern Bihar. With the upcoming Prayagraj plant coming online, we plan to swiftly expand our reach to encompass other districts in the near future. Additionally, we are actively exploring the possibility of setting up a plant in Bihar by 2025, further solidifying our commitment to the region."
UltraTech Cement to invest US$120m in Bihar
14 December 2023India: UltraTech Cement has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Bihar for the investment of US$120m in the state.
Press Trust of India News has reported that the Bihar government has asked the government of India to grant the state special status in order to advance its industrial development.
India: Dalmia Bharat has announced a planned investment of US$10.9m in a grinding unit expansion at its 1Mt/yr Banjari cement plant in Bihar. The expansion will raise the plant’s capacity by 500,000t/yr and conclude before 31 March 2025.
India: A worker had been killed and two others seriously injured at a fire that broke out at Dalmia Cement’s Banjari cement plant on 1 September 2023. The staff were reportedly cleaning the kiln at the unit in Bihar when the incident took place, according to the Hindustan Times newspaper. The name of the dead worker has been confirmed as Sanjiv Kumar Singh.
India: UltraTech Cement has commissioned an upgrade to its grinding plant at Patliputra in Bihar. The 2.2Mt/yr upgrade brings the total capacity of the unit to 4.7Mt/yr. The cement producer will use the additional capacity to serve market demand in the east region of the country. It has a total national cement production capacity of 129Mt/yr.
