GE delivers grid to DG Khan Cement’s Hub plant

30 November 2018

Pakistan: GE says it has delivered a turnkey power grid to DG Khan Cement’s Hub plant in Baluchistan. The grid includes a 132/6.3kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), 40MVA power transformers and other related auxiliary equipment. The power solution also includes an extension at K-Electric’s Hub Chowki grid station with a 132kV AIS bay connecting it to the DG Khan Cement grid station. GE also supplied engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the 132/6.3kV grid station.

“As one of the largest cement producers in Pakistan, our aim is to create a facility for the future, not only to meet local demand but also to serve the international market. To support these efforts, we needed a field-proven stable and reliable grid solution and therefore after thorough evaluation we selected GE’s solutions. Given GE’s experience spanning across a wide range of industries and applications, we are pleased to work with the team on this critical project,” said Arif Bashir, Director (Tech & Ops) at DG Khan Cement.

DG Khan Cement officially opened the Hub plant in July 2018. The unit has a cement production capacity of 2.8Mt/yr.

FLSmidth and GE to partner on data platform

12 May 2016

Denmark/US: FLSmidth and GE (formerly General Electric) have announced a partnership to create digital solutions for increasing productivity in the cement and minerals industries. The new solutions developed on GE's cloud-based Predix platform will use FLSmidth's knowledge of cement and minerals processing along with GE's industrial application of networked physical objects (the internet of things) to increase the productivity of connected equipment units in the cement and mining industry.

FLSmidth will build their solutions on top of the Predix platform with applications for managing process flows. This should allow customers to leverage process data and analytics for monitoring, benchmarking their performance and predicting maintenance of their equipment.

"Cement and mining companies already collect significant volumes of data, but currently, only a fraction of it is used. This will be the first available solution for a full coherent process monitoring to leverage optimisation solutions offered by a full service provider like FLSmidth," said FLSmidth’s head of Global Research & Development Jens Almdal.

Novorostsement orders 12th gas engine from GE

31 October 2013

Russia: Novorostsement has ordered its 12th Jenbacher J624 gas engine from US multinational GE (General Electric). The south-western 2.3Mt/yr Russian cement plant in Novorossiysk is expanding its 33.3MW captive gas power plant.

"In order to increase production capacity, we chose GE's technology since we have already had a successful operating experience with the J624 gas engines. The use of GE's gas engines has allowed us to improve the economic performance of our facility," said Anatoly Ziskel, managing director of the JSC Verhnebakanskiy Cement Plant.

Novorostsement originally installed 11 of GE's 4-MW Jenbacher J624 units in 2011. At the time, the project marked the largest single order of Jenbacher gas engines in Russia and also represents GE's largest J624 power plant project worldwide. Max Motors LLC of Sochi will supply the latest J624 unit for the power plant, which Max Motors designed, built and maintains. The on-site power station uses natural gas provided by a local pipeline.
