GEA trials carbon capture technology at Phoenix Zementwerke cement plant
18 September 2023Germany: Engineering company GEA has installed a carbon capture pilot plant at the Phoenix Zementwerke cement plant in Beckum, North Rhine-Westphalia. The supplier will now conduct testing over ‘several’ months, but said that it is confident that the cement plant is suitable for an installation to capture over 90% of its CO2 emissions. GEA’s carbon capture systems run on energy from waste heat recovery, with minimal to zero extra electrical input.
Phoenix Zementwerke managing director Marcel Gustav Krogbeumker said “We consider carbon capture a very exciting technology. Thanks to GEA's decades of experience in emissions control, I am very positive that together we can develop and implement a solution."
Colombia: Grupo Gilinski has abandoned its plan to buy a 26% stake in Grupo Argos. Grupo Argos shareholders reportedly offered the prospective buyer an 11% stake in the group on 6 July 2022. This fell below the minimum stake for the tender offer.
Thomas Zement orders selective catalytic reduction unit from GEA for Erwite cement plant
15 April 2019Germany: Thomas Zement has ordered a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) unit from GEA for its Erwite cement plant to reduce its NOx emissions. The order includes two reactors for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) including handling of the flue gas transport by induced draft (ID) fans and integration into plant. The contract also includes engineering services as well as the supply, installation and commissioning of steel structures, SCR catalysts, ID fans, heating circuits, duct connection and adaptation of NH3 injection from existing storage tanks. Production will continue at the site during the installation of the SCR unit.
