Switzerland/US: Holcim may list its upcoming market-separated North American business both in the US and Switzerland, Bloomberg has reported. The possibility arose due to Swiss and European restrictions on foreign shareholdings for locally-based funds, which may result in sales of Holcim stocks, with negative price impacts. On the other hand, a dual listing could potentially reduce the liquidity of any future US-listed shares.
SeeNews has reported that Holcim North America will be headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, for tax ‘advantages,’ while operating out of Chicago, US.
Menzel cuts ribbon on Hennigsdorf motor plant and headquarters
23 November 2023Germany: Menzel held the ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Hennigsdorf motor plant in Berlin earlier in November 2023. From the start of operations there on 2 January 2024, the site will consolidate Menzel’s production and administrative operations.
CEO Mathis Menzel said “This move will ring in a new era in the history of our family business. The new plant is tailored to our requirements in every detail: generously proportioned logistics and production areas, continuous crane accessibility with an 80t lifting capacity. That will enable us to achieve streamlined production processes and schedule and complete customer projects even more flexibly and reliably, and will properly set us up for the future as the international headquarters of our group.”
Spain: Cementos Molins inaugurated its new Euro6.6m headquarters in Sant Vicenç dels Horts, Catalonia. The facilities include a 3250m2 solar power plant, which will supply 100% of the energy consumed in the building’s operations. The solar power plant consists of an array of 1455 photovoltaic panels. Cementos Molins says that it also used recycled materials where possible in building its new headquarters.

Alpacem opens new headquarters
06 October 2023Austria: Alpacem inaugurated its new headquarters in Wietersdorf, Carinthia, on 6 October 2023. The project demonstrated the first construction application of the group’s reduced-CO2 CEM-II/C Portland composite cement.
Managing director Lutz Weber said “With the most modern technologies for decarbonisation and our extensive building materials expertise, we have succeeded in reducing the ecological footprint of our Alpacem headquarters to a minimum.”
ACC and Ambuja Cements begin to up sticks for Ahmedabad
31 March 2023India: Adani Group has reportedly relocated 'significant roles' in ACC and Ambuja Cements to Ahmedabad, Gujarat. ACC and Ambuja Cements' headquarters are situated in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and employ 6000 and 4700 people respectively. The Business Standard newspaper has reported that many people in leadership positions now based in Ahmedabad continue to run teams in Mumbai.
Sumitomo Osaka Cement powers head office using biomass
01 February 2023Japan: Sumitomo Osaka Cement has started using electricity generated from biomass to power its head office in the Shiodome Sumitomo Building in Tokyo. The electricity is generated at the company’s company's Tochigi biomass power plant in Sano and then fed into the general grid. The cement producer and the country are using a feed-in-tariff (FIT) non-fossil energy certificate system to track the use of electricity generated from non-fossil fuel generated sources.
Mexican: Cooperativa La Cruz Azul has relocated back to its historic head office in Mexico City, according to the El Universal newspaper. The producer says that the move is another step forward in its restoration of normality and its institutional refoundation after ‘three decades of struggle.’
Austria: Alpacem has held the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of its new headquarters at Wietersdorf, Carinthia. The company will invest Euro6m to establish the new headquarters on the site of its Wietersdorf cement plant. It will contain 50 office work stations, with meeting rooms and socialising zones.
In 2021, Alpacem says that it supplied 2Mt of cement and 350,000m2 of ready-mix concrete to projects in the Alpine/Adriatic region.
China: Australia-based FCT Combustion has announced a formal alliance with air pollution control partner Enelco Environmental Technology (EET). Together the companies will target the Chinese cement, steel, glass and other markets. EET has become the exclusive China representative of FCT Combustion, with which it shares its capabilities and resources in the service of Chinese customers.
The two companies have set up a joint office in Nanjing, Jiangsu province. A workshop in Bengbu, Anhui province will support its work. FCT Combustion and EET also plan to launch local technical support, engineering and procurement teams for customers in China.
FCT Group chief executive officer Adriano Greco said “We have great respect for our growing customer base within China and believe that it is important to establish a locally based business unit so that we can deliver the best outcomes and customer experiences, providing customer service and engineering according to the local culture and language, as well as local procurement to offer the most cost-effective solution.”
Cemex USA sells headquarters
29 November 2021US: Cemex USA has sold its headquarters in West Palm Beach, Florida for US$13.4m. The South Florida Business Journal newspaper has reported that the company will vacate the property in early 2022. It will relocate to a nearby smaller office. Cemex USA has occupied its current headquarters since 1983. According to sources quoted by the newspaper, it no longer requires the 20,000m2 space due to increased rates of remote working by staff.
